San Ching Taoism Assn celebrates in honour of Zhang Tian Shi
Hi folks,
Thanks to the invite from Hoddermelvin who sponsored a table in the San Ching Taoism Association grand dinner in honour of Zhang Tian Shi (aka Zhang Dao Ling), the founder of religious Taoism, I got to eat and observe how a grand dinner is conducted in a restaurant. (^^) Yes, they still have the auctions to help raise funds for various activities, one of which is the coming Chao Du in the 7th Month.
If my assumptions were right, there must be some 28 tables, meaning about 300 people or so (including the association members) were present.
If you like how they say those soothing words as they present each item for auction, you must attend this one. Certainly fantastic .. any item, he has a saying. Any price, he also has a saying. In Hokkien and even in Mandarin! There were quite a number of Taoist Priests present and they also included one table from the Cantonese Taoist Priests. I am not sure, but there could be others as well.
The San Ching Taoism Association has been in existence for some 30 years already. It was probably one of the earliest, if not the earliest Taoist Association formed.
The association is conducting chanting classes in Hokkien every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So, if you are interested, you could contact Master Tan Kok Hian at 9731 6903.
On 17-19 August, 2007 (7M5-7M7) Fri-Sun, the association will also be conducting a Chao Du Fa Hui. If anyone is interested, you could also contact Master Tan.
The ceremonies will be held each day from 9am to 10pm at the Singapore Clans Federation at Toa Payoh. Prayer packages are available from S$50 to S$300.
I will try to get more details and explanation on the meaning and purpose of Chao Du to share with you. If anyone of you have materials, do please share as well. This is one of the important ceremonies that the Chinese take it seriously for their ancestors and the wandering souls.
