Do you think Taoism can survive in a modern World of Singapore?

Have our Legal Sectors and the necessary Taoism Organisation doing enough for the promoting of Taoism Culture in Singapore?

For the moment, what we can see are the Folks' Taoism doing the promoting, whereas the Formal Taoism Organisations are more focus on the Constructing of their Good Image and setting up many un-necessary Events, etc.. you agreed?

Let's make your comments here.

Just sharing my personal views.

Not surprising that most people associate Taoism with folklore taoism especially 'tangki worship'. ( I was a bit disturbed when I first read Margaret Chan's "Ritual's a theatre, Theatre's a ritual" when she used the term "tangki worship"). Now I can't agreed more!

Most people worshipped tangki in hope of striking a quick fortune ( a quick fit to their financial problems and worries). Youngsters worshipped tangkis for their 'status' and 'recognitions' people confers upon those tangkis who performs in public (especially during yewkengs). For those who have sintua or temples, these tangkis' performances or showmanship is necessary for survival ( to earn a living or upkeep expenses ). To earn a living(and or upkeep expenses), these sintuas or temples need a lot of support. How to have a lot of support? - Tangkis shows! Of course, not all kitong tranced for a living. Some tranced to repay or show their gratitude.

Those who study religious taoism (taoists who practises taoism like a true taoist priests) would understand such showmanship is a basic survival trade (to earn a living or to support their family). nothing grand about ability to go into a trance. What's the purpose of going into a trance? Answer: to communicate with deity. It is not necessary to be tranced to communicate with deity(s). With proper guidance from a authenicated Taoist priest or grand master, anyone can communicate with deity(s)! - without being tranced. When in trance, the physical body is being used by a 'force' from another dimension. Why let your body be used when you have full control?

Unfortunately most people don't have the patient to learn nor the affinity to meet an authenicated Taoist priest/grand master.
There are also many other methods/ways to communicated with deity(s) such as:
i) Mi kua
ii) Yi Ching
iii) Bua pua
iv) Auto-writting
v) Dreams (controlled dream, that is)
vi) Meditation/chantings(prayers)
vii) Shen Tong
- Er tong
- physical body parts's movements
- six senses (physhic)
viii) cards reading
etc......

Hope this forum will provide some windows to the above-mentioned.

Trust this forum will provides a guidances and a signposts to learn more about religion Taoism and a better understanding of Tao. My master said that tao is with us everyday. In our daily chores, jobs, action we take and words we said. So how can Taoism not survive?

Thanking all in advance.

Dear Bro,

Cant agree more with you too.

Nowsdays, ppl are relying on Kis more than their own instinct, etc.

Like what you said, in this Taoism World, there are more than a way to communicate with the Deities, but maybe most ppl are too lazy to do it on themselves, etc.

One thing to advise is that, Quick Fortune is good to have and happy to get, but Quick event dont last long, come quick, will also gone quick.

What the most beautiful thing in this world? It is the "fruit" that you "harvest" from your own "watering and ploughing". Agree?

This is the learning (life) cycle, isn't it?

Life is a cycle. We are born, learn while we grow old and then passed on, to be reborn, grow and passed on. Tibetian turned the wheel of life daily (many times over). The Earth spined round and round non-stop, just like our life cycles.

So it's natural for human to experience the natural of living (growing up and raising a family)....happiness (joy of first love; seeing one's first born)...sadness(loss of one's wealth and or of one's loved one,etc)...

So, the question is how to get out of this non-stop merry-go-round?????

One sure way (Tao) is to study and understand Taoism or Buddhism (advancing one level at a time in one life-cycle, till sufficient merits are accumulated) and finally able to be released from this ongoing life-death cycles.

I noticed those who strike it rich through the help of 'unseem force' never able to keep their 'easy' fortune. Besides, it a usage of one's advanced fortune (like the credit card is the advanced used of one's earnings).

Those who didn't strike it rich blamed the deity and claimed that the deity's not real (without understanding that their own fortune's bank is empty!). How to draw water from a dry water-well?

A person destiny is in one;s hand.

It's no use just learning but no action. Tree don't grow by itself. Money don't drop from the sky.

difficult. many groups and organisations are not cooperating with each other. Gov is not trying to promote the culture and practises here.

in a multi-racial country, chinese religions may not be able to reach a peak where other countries can. *2 cents comment*
