It was a good weather when I travelled to An Xi Cheng Huang Temple. The journey was long. Took more than 2hrs to reach. Anyway Anxi is such a beautiful place. It is also my first time I see citizens cleaning the streets. A sight so rare that any visitors to smaller cities in Xiamen will know.
After the toll station, the road is winding. Trees are planted along the road like Singapore style. Maybe every 10m one. Street lamps are built along the side too. Sparkling clean and gives you a very warm welcome feeling....just like North South Highway and exiting to Tuas checkpoint. Sudden calmness.
The temple is located on a slope whereby cars can be driven up. Only disappointment is you need to pay to go into the temple compound car park.Anway it costs 5RMB per pax abt 1 SingDollar.
The Eastern Peak Emperor is located at the left hand side of the temple compound. Small temple but history is close to 800 years. No TYP inside. Registry Goddess is located there too. So far the only temple to display No Smoking Sign inside the temple.
At Cheng Huang temple, there are mosaic slabs that craves all donors' name there. Can see our 2 major local Singapore Cheng Huang (Arumugam and Teban)temple making donations. Of course there are other donors' name on the same slab. My driver later pointed out that the Sign Board is also donated by Singapore devotees. Wow, that solid feeling. There is one other local tua who make a 7K donation. Name is crafted on a single slab.
Paid 90RMB for the largest fire cracker and 20RMB for the joss papers. Just like SHT multiply site, pics are the same. The devotees dun offer TYDP cigarettes. No butts are found in the ashtray. TDYP tongue also very clean. No black candies.
Cheng Huang sits in the middle and TDYP are stationed outside. Please use Shuang Lin Shi imagination to orientate yourself. The remaing pics Sht tookare located on steps; the deities that have the wooden fence surrounding them. Only central urn, there are 2 urns inside the temple and jade emperor urn is located outside the temple.
When making donation, the temple helper will use the microphone to announce.
Will speak to you in An Kuay dialect and naturally offer you tea. I asked the helper, when is Cheng Huang Qian Qiu, he said 28th Fifth Month. I responded wow same as Koo Chye Ba..he replied me without a wink...here Lo Zu (Hokkien). Interesting..maybe Sht can reply on this.
You can fire the crackers once you complete the burning of joss papers. This si by far the largest bang that the temple compund floor also shook when the fire crackers reached the end. Happy day.
Please do not forget to pray to Tua Pek Gong who is located by the side but outside Cheng Huang Temple.
An elderly women gave me well wishers...she is no beggar!
