Khanh Van Nam Vien PagodaKhanh Van Nam Vien Pagoda, a Cantonese Taoist temple completed in 1942. The main altar features a Yin and Yang symbol. The statues of taoist desciples are made of porcelain and bronze. Upstairs I saw a statue of the bearded Lao Tse, the founder of the religion. His halo is a round mirror with fluorescent lighting. On the wall was a beautiful schematic drawing of the human body - the organs are scenes of rural China. The stomach is represented by a man ploughing with a water buffalo; the kidney is four Yin and Yang symbols; the liver is a grove of trees; the heart is a circle containing a peasant and a star constellation; the throat is a tall pagoda; a broken rainbow is the mouth; mountains are the brain; a meditating figure is the imagination.
