Here's a comment on the Pagoda:

One of the most interesting pagodas in Vietnam, the Emperor Jade is filled with smoky incense and fantastic carved figurines. It was built by the Cantonese community around the turn of the century and is still buzzing with worshippers, many lounging in the front gardens. Take a moment to look at the elaborate statuary on the pagoda's roof. The dominant figure in the main hall is the Jade Emperor himself; referred to as the "god of the heavens," the emperor decides who will enter and who will be refused. He looks an awful lot like Confucius, only meaner. In an anteroom to the left you'll find Kim Hua, a goddess of fertility, and the King of Hell in another corner with his minions, who undoubtedly gets those the Jade Emperor rejects. It's spooky.

The Emperor of Jade Pagoda. It dates from 1909 and is Cantonese. Although uninspiring from the outside, the inside was full of paper mache statues and reliefs carved on wood. Two wooden cabinets were highly carved with various gods: Mon Quan (The God of the Gate), Tho Than (God of the Land). By the altar was the many armed Phat Mau Chuan De, a sandlewood Buddha and a couple of huge, fierce wooden carved statues of 4m high warriors stepping on a dragon and tiger, respectively. On the altar is the Emperor of Jade himself (Ngoc Hoang), a bearded Taoist figure, gleaming in his gold robes. Other figures: the 18 armed (Hindu like) Phat Man Chuan De with two faces attached to each ear and Ong Bac De (holding a sword and standing on a snake and turtle), Thien Loi (the God of Lightning), Tanh Hoang (the Chief of Hell and his red horse, flanked by three figures on each side, some with top hats).
