Puchong is a main town in Petaling Selangor, Malaysia. It used to be a rubber estate and tin-mining town about 40 years ago. In the past, it consists of only one two-lane road running through estates and villages. Since then, urbanization has occurred rapidly in recent years with many industrial parks, commercial centres and residential areas mushrooming along Jalan Puchong, the main road.
Puchong is situated midway between the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's commercial capital, and Putrajaya, the administrative capital. Due to its location, Puchong is expected to witness further developments in the near future. Puchong already serves as a residential suburb for two cities, Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya. New townships, such as Bandar Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong and Bandar Puteri Puchong, are sprouting from once-abandoned lands, ex-plantation land and cleared-forest areas, contributing to the population boom witnessed in recent years in Puchong.
The Tian Ling Dian Chinese Temple is located in the centre area of Bandar Puchong Jaya, a residential cum departmental hub housing estate. In conjunction with its 5th Anniversary celebration, the Hian Eng Daoist Group was invited to officiate the ceremony. Our China taoist priests were called upon for their services throughout the three days ritual.
During the three days of its ceremony, the local believers have opportunity to witness a special taoist event called “Spiritual Area Cleansing”. It is a kind of mock attack with sword and Chinese martial arts display that lasted for at least an hour during the fasts and offerings ceremony. The purpose of this event is to eliminate all kind of evils, negative forces as well as outer black magic that fall within the closet area of its surrounding scene such as buildings or objects. If those kind of energies do exist, the four numinous animals of heaven, namely blue dragon, white tiger, red phoenix as well as black warrior together with the thirty-six heavenly generals will be called upon for negotiation. Unless all those energies disappear, the taoist priests will nevertheless carry out an order to make offensive attack at once.
