Hi Folks,
Hope all is well with everyone here. I wondered what the symbolism is in traditional Chinese culture or traditional Daoism for bats (the small flying creatures, not baseball bats!). I had heard they were viewed as good luck because the pronunciation of the word for bat is the same as the word for good fortune. Is that true? Are there other things that link bats with good luck?

A couple of my metal deities of Zhong Kui (the Demon Catcher) feature him holding a bat in one hand while he subdues a demon. For example this one:

Just for fun I have included a picture of a Taiwanese Air Force patch that features a bat. The patch is for an older ROC Air Force unit that specialized in nighttime surveillance over China. And the unit was called, the Black Bats.
