1139AD: Born on lunar 7th Month 23rd Day. Named Zhang Ji Guan, aka Zi Guan, aka Zhang Sa.

1143AD: Age5 Father deceased.

1147AD: Age9 Mother remarried. Stayed with uncle. Worked as a sheep Shepard.

1148AD: Age10 Meet the Heavenly Sage, Tai Shang Lao Cun and Yuan Shi Tian Cun. Given a 3000 years old peace but due to ignorance, only consumed half and discharged balance.

1151AD: Age 13 In the month of January (still winter time) due to continuous rain for many days, he couldn’t tend to the sheep thus returned home to spent the New Year with his siblings. On reaching home, he found all his wood used up (as they are very poor), he practiced his martial skills the whole day to kept himself warm. He used his Jigong power to boil water (using his feet to generate heat). This feat was witnessed by a neighbor. He then leaped out through a window and disappeared. This story quickly spread and the local people regarded him as a deity.

After leaving home, he wandered for a while and found a job working for a rich landlord, Master Lu, in a village of Bai-Ma-po. At the same time, Xiao Min (age11) was also working in the same village (for a his aunty). They get along very well and become sworn brothers. Ji Guan frequently stayed with Xiao Min. Ji Guan worked during daytime and practices his martial/magical skills at night.

1153AD: Age 15 Left Yong Fu and traveled the mountainous land. He reached a famous ancient temple known as Bai Yin Shi (White Cloud temple) in Yong Tai, a famous Taoist retreat. He again worked during the day and study the various Taoist sacred scripts (in the temple library) at night. He also practiced his martial arts and magical skill too. His skills thus advanced to a higher level.

1154AD: Age 16 It was July, he again left and traveled the mountainous land. He passed through an infamous stockade. The muddy path (it only road) was dangerous, windy and long. He noticed that all the people that travel this path does it at a high risk Ji Guan decided to mend/repair the long and dangerous muddy path (road). In one night work, he smashed and leveled this long and windy muddy path (which is at least 3,400 steps long)! Ji Guan left the place immediately after completing the job. His feat was noted by the locals and a legend was born.

1155AD: Age17 He worked in the village of Yong Fu. In February, Taoist Master Jiangxi Lushan Zhou, came to visit him and taught him various advanced talisman skills and magical skill. In March, Ji Guan helped the people of WuTong village planted paddy. The village womenfolk provided daily meals. They cooked earthworms with red wine to serve with the cooked rice. Ji Guan decided to save the earthworms. He used his chopstick to pick the earthworms one by one and placed them in the drain and chanted a life-giving/reactivation mantras. Slowly but surely, the cooked earthworms come to life and swimming again in the drain. This created a new species of red colored earthworms in Yong Fu. This is the legend of the famous red colored earthworms of Yong Fu. This special type of earthworms still carry a distinguished marks at its midpoint (the place where Ji Guan used his chopstick to pick them up!

1156AD: Age 18 Ji Guan still worked in Yong Fu. It was a very hot summer. The whole region was dried and earth cracked. There was much suffering and salvation. In order to save the whole village, he decided to dig a canal to bring water. He borrowed a buffalo and an iron plow from a nearby village. He started in the early hour and traveled to the nearest waterway and begins digging the canal. He worked non-stop till the next day noontime. Suddenly he heard a woman shouting : “Strange! Strange! There’s a man digging a canal!” At this moment, the ‘man and the buffalo’ disappeared, leaving behind only the iron plow. When the villagers arrived at the screen, there’s already a canal (with water flowing from the rocky mountain). All the villagers was so happy and grateful when they saw the newly dug canal is flooding all the paddy field with water, thus saving their crops. They realized that this is the work of a kind heart deity. They all immediately kneed down and prayed towards heaven to thanks this deity. Some villager saw Ji Guan returning the buffalo to its owner. They realized that this is the work of Ji Guan but couldn’t find him around.

It was August when Ji Guan returned to Bai Ying Temple where he further improved on this magical skills and arts from the High Priest, Master Gong Lung Shu. Master Lung Shu taught him a special magical skill, known as Wu Lei Tian Xing fa (Five Thunder Heaven Heart). And was also given a very powerful seven-star sword. Ji Guan quickly paid his due respects and leave to do more good deeds ( on a life-saving mission). He visited his sworn brother Xiao Ming at Shen You Zhao. They set off together. Both learned very fast and are very well advanced in their respective skills and arts. On their way, they meet Zhang Ming (章敏). The three of them became sworn brothers. At that time, Zhang Ming was 26, Ji Guan 18 and Xiao Min 16. The three of them set off to FuZhou village of Yang Jiao Zhou, as instructed by Master Lung Shu (where they will be transport by a magical boat to Jiangxi Lu Shan to further their magical skills.) At Lu Shan, they meet Taoist Master Zhou Zou. Xiao Min was given a Taoist name of Lang Rui (郎瑞); Zhang Ming’s Taoist name of Lang Qing (朗庆). The three brothers worked and practiced their skills with great vigor. After 49 days, they mastered all the 36 heavenly stars formations, 72 Earthly Branch magical combinations, and various divinations skills as well. Master Zhou also taught them various martial arts. Very quickly five years passed. By now, they are very skillful and their magical skill is of a very high standard. However, Master Zhou still didn’t instruct them to leave for any mission. Instead, he ordered Ji Guan to cut wood; Lang Rui to grind powders (for making pills); and Lang Qing to plant paddy; And to recite all the Taoist sacred script daily. They have to practice self-control as well in order to fights demons and evil spirits. They have to learn medical skills too. When Master Zhou is satisfied that the three of them have mastered the various skills and arts, he instructed them on a mission to travel the country of Fujian to save the villagers. Ji Guan requested a protective talisman from Master Zhou. Master Zhou departed a special skill known as Feng Huo Lun (风火轮功夫) martial art and a metal walking rod (that weights 7000 jin) . Ji Guan felt that this is too heavy and turned it into a lighter and shorter walking rod.

Ji Guan left Bai Yuan temple and reached the seaport of Mingjian. In his path, he saw two pieces of jute strings tired together in a coil. It sudden turned into to huge python. One of them quietly snaked away. Ji Guan quickly caught hold of the other (before it escaped) but it coiled round his neck. Ji Guan quickly captured it (with his magical skill) and kept it as his protective weapon/talisman. Ji Guan turned it into a powerful exorcist sword.

1160AD: Age 22 Lived with Lang Rui (Xiao Min). Offered medical cures to the local villagers. Various villagers build temples in appreciations. It was recorded that more than 300 such temples were built. The villagers created his statues with clay and offer joss sticks in appreciation.

1162AD: Age 24 He travels far and wide, collection alms/donations to build bridges, for the conveniences of travelers and the local villagers. Later generations people crafted Zhang Gong’s statues and paid due respect to this unique deity. All the unsuspecting maiden that washes their clothing under this particular bridge was eaten by this demonic snake.

1163AD: Age 25 In March, it was Springtime. In the village of Futian, there was a demonic snake creating fears to the villagers. It specially likes to eat maiden. When Ji Guan arrived, he saw Lang Rui’s hand was bitten by this poisonous demonic snake and quickly goes to his rescue. One day, when this demonic snake left it’s hideout, Ji Guan immediately give chase and challenged it. With one quick strike with his magical sword, Ji Guan sliced the demonic snake’s waist. This act had angered the demonic snake and it fought back. It swing its powerful tail at Ji Guan. Lang Rui was even sharper. He quickly used a sliced bamboo to block the snake’s tail. Ji Guan followed up with a strike at the snake’s head. The dead snake then sank into the river. Ji Guan and Lang Rui both had done another great deed for the villagers. The villagers was so grateful that they wanted to reward Ji Guan and Lang Rui with 20 grams of silver which both of them duly declined.

In April, Ji Guan and Lang Rui reached PanYuYan (潘畲岩) mountain in search of herbs. On their way, they passed the village of Guyang. They were told that there was a demon living in PanYuYan. All the villagers that goes there were dead (whole body turned purple, a sign of poisoning). Now, nobody dare goes there. Ji Guan and Lang Rui quickly when in that direction and ventured deep into the mountainous forest of PanYuYan. Suddenly the sky was covered with a blanket of dark cloud. Strong wind blew from all directions. A strange animal, bright golden in color, flew straight towards them. Ji Guan quickly flashes his sword. Lang Rui flashed his stone hoe (his magical protective weapon), both combined their skill to face this strange animal. This strange animal emitted a huge cloud of dark smoke and blew at them. They then realized that this demon is a poisonous demonic centipede. With their combined power and skills, they eventually killed this poisonous demonic centipede. Once again, they have done a great deeds for the mortal people.

1165AD: Age27 It was Yuan Xiao Jie (元宵节), lunar 15th day, a Chinese Valentine Day. Ji Guan called at Bai Yuan temple to pay respect to Master Lung Shu. They talked at length on the various Taoist matters/subjects. Master Lung Shu then informed Ji Guan that there’s a demonic snake in Chishui (a small village in Yong Fu). Ji Guan immediately set off to Chishui. On arrival, he was informed by the local that indeed there was a huge snake eating people at random. He then ventured into the mountain in seek of this man-eating snake. On his way, he saw a young lady washing vegetable in the mountain creek. This lady (was Priestess Guan Shi Ying’s manifestation) magically turned a piece of the vegetable into a willow branch (with leaves on it). On receiving this willow branch, the lady then disappeared. The willow branch then turned into a magical willow sword. Ji Guan was awarded that this demonic snake is the one that snaked away in the seaport of Mingjian. He searches everywhere and finally found the snake resting in a cave. Immediately he used the magical sword (that was formerly the other snake that he caught) and orders it to bring out the snake that was inside the cave. Once the snakes exit from the cave, Ji Guan immediately used the magical willow sword (that was given to him by Priestess Guan Shi Ying) and immediately cut off the snake head. It’s head, upon hitting the ground, turned into a huge rock; its body rolled into the mountain creek and its blood turned the creek water red. This is why the village was known as Chishui ( Chi [赤] = red; Shui [水] = water). Thus Ji Guan had done another great deed for the mortal’s world.

Ji Guan left Chishui and continued on his mission. He passed Daishan (岱仙), one of the sacred mountain where lives the three High Deities, Ma Ming Zhen Xian (马氏真仙), sparing their skills. The forces generated was so strong that it causes a sand storm. Huge rock flew in all direction. Ji Guan went in the direction of this upheavals. However, when he got to close to the battlefield and was hit by a flying rock and flung towards the cliff edge. On seeing this, Ma Ming Zhen Xiang quickly put out a hair pin and throw it at Ji Guan’direction, pining him to the cliff wall, thus saving him. This sparing session had caused the place to be flatten as well as leaving behind many cracks on the cliff wall. There are also many strange footprints still visible. A legend is thus born.

1166AD: Age 28 It was early January. The three brothers saw a old man crying and pledging for justice as his young grand daughter was taken away by force by a playboy son of a rich landlord. The three brothers immediate when to find this playboy family and on arrival, find him in the main hall having a good time drinking wines and womanizing. The playboy was about to tear off this young girl’s clothing. Ji Guan shouted him to stop. When this playboy saw that the three brothers were dressed in poor farmer clothing, ignored them and continued with his act. He (the playboy) then throws one punch at Ji Guan’s eyes. Ji Guan avoids the punch and kicked his bottom. Unfortunately, the kick was so strong that it immediately killed this playboy. Lang Rui then set fire and burnt down this evil stockade. They then returned this young girl to the old man. Thence fore, peace returned to Mafeng stockade. In the same year, Ji Guan and Lang Rui also done a few more good deeds by removing of more devilish forces and demons.

1167AD: Age29 While traveling on his mission, Ji Guan reached the village of Shuang-gui yan. There lives an old Taoist and his son. There also live an infamous bandit who robs and also take maiden for his pleasure at random. Ji Guan on knowing this immediately goes in search of this bandit. He hided on top of a huge cassia tree. In less than two minutes, the evil bandits appeared. Ji Guan jumped down to capture him, hoping to catch him unprepared. The fierce bandit immediately throw a dagger at Ji Guan. Ji Guan was swift. He blocked the dagger and make it flying back to from where it came. It struck the bandit’s waist. The evil bandit dropped to the ground and was dead. After this fierce battle, Ji Guan asked the old Taoist if he can spend the night in his hut. The old Taoist was still very frightened and kept crying that his son is still captive (in one of the mountain cave) for the last five days. Ji Guan asked the old Taoist to show him the cave. Upon reaching the cave, Ji Guan noticed that the entrance was blocked by a huge rock (weighting at least 500 jin). Ji Guan gathered all his magical power and breaks the rock in half with his bare hand! Thus freeing this poor little Taoist boy. However, the boy was so weak and closed to dead. Ji Guan quickly chanted some magical mantra and feed the boy with herbs. The little boy soon recovered consciousness and survived. When the villager knew about this happenings, they came in number to thanks Ji Guan.

1168AD: Age30 Now at his prime. He was traveling on his mission and reached the village of Jiao Xi, Shi Gu Yan. Ji Guan noticed a brilliant light coming from the direction of Shi Nui Shan, in the evening. Immediately realized that there’s an evil force presented. He also learned from the locals that this day, the demon is taking a young maiden as its bride. In order to save the life of this poor maiden, Ji Guan disguised as the bride and sat on the bride sedan chair and was carried to the demon’s hideout in the mountain. Upon reaching the demon hideout cave; Ji Guan revealed his true identity. Soon a ferocious battle begins. It was so violence that it caused huge sand storms. Rock flew in all directions. This fierce struggle goes on for a long time as the demon had numerous assistances and eventually Ji Guan was locked inside the cave. The demons set fires and burnt Ji Guan for seven days and seven nights till Ji Guan’ face turned black. Ji Guan gathered all his power and used a special skill to inform his two brother of this situation, seeking for help. Soon, Lang Qing arrived. He used his hammer and breaks the rock that was blocking the cave entrance. His power was so great that one of the broken rocks flew and hit Ji Guan on his forehead, causing a huge swell. He was so embarrassed that his face turned red! When Lang Rui arrives, he saw what happened to Ji Guan and was so angry that his face turned green! The three brothers then combined their power and finally subdued the demons. These demons then become the Wu Tong Gui (Five Pass Devils) and kept as their protective assistances. The three brothers then stayed at the Shi Nui Tong to cultivate and improve on their skills.

1170AD: Age32 While on his mission, he reached the village of Xian Nan Men. The villager was planning to build a huge bridge. There was a huge rock sitting on top of another huge rock. All the craftsmen and artisan couldn’t remove it, thus the bridge cannot be constructed. When Ji Guan arrived and told the story, he immediately went to investigate. After surveying the huge rock, Ji Guan discovered that the other huge rock at the bottom was actually a thousand years cultivated turtle spirit. Its head was pinned there by the huge rock on top of it! And it body was buried by another huge pile of rocks. Ji Guan used a rod of big bamboo and struck it at the turtle’s head. The turtle extended its head and intended to bite Ji Guan. Ji Guan was even quicker. He pushes the big bamboo rod into the turtle’s mouth, through its throat and used his magical power to kill it. Thus the construction of bridge was finally completed. Later, the villager build a shrine near the bridge to thanks Ji Guan.

1171AD: Age 33 In the village of Ming Zheng Key, it was raining heavily for the pass thirteen days with thunders and lightings flashing non stop. The Jade Emperor decreed Lei Gong to stop making further thunder. Unfortunately, Lei Gong can’t read, thus he asked Zhang Gong (Ji Guan) to read the decree. Zhang Gong was also taught the thunder making skills before. He used this skill to speak to Lei Gong, saying: Zhang Gong supervises Lei Gong! Zhang Gong then immediately instructed Lei Gong to stop all the noises. Lei Gong hence fore stopped all the chaos. When the Jade Emperor knew this happenings, He then give Zhang Gong the title of “Jian Lei Zhen Shen Jun (监雷真圣君)”. While traveling, Ji Guan came across stone lion spirit that was creating havoc. Ji Guan drew his magical sword and strike at the stone lion spirit’s head, instantly killing it. Later, travelers can still see a green sword struck into a huge rock (with a shape of a lion head).

In June, in the village of Fu Tian Han, villagers were dieing from fish poisoning. No medicine s seen to be effective to counter this poison. Ji Guan immediately prescript his secret herbal medicines. It was very effective. All that was treated by Ji Guan recovered soon. All the nearby villagers on heard this miracle cures came to search Ji Guan. Ji Guan called upon every household that need his cure. He stayed on for many days while curing and saving hundreds of lives. Later the villagers were so thankful that everywhere shines were built to honor Ji Guan.

1172AD: Age 34 There was a chaos and upheaval in the village of Fu Qing. A huge red monstrous snake was creating havoc and fears in the seaport of Fu Qing. This monster likes to swallow whole pig, cow and goat (all prize assets of the villagers). When Ji Guan heard of this, he quickly rushed to the place. On arrival, the huge monster snake was creating huge waves (from its movement). It was very nasty and fierce. Ji Guan jumped onto the snake and fights it with his magical skill. After subduing this monster, he slow sliced off its skin and makes a protective armor out of it. Later the villagers also realized that Ji Guan was also the same person that cured all the villagers of Fu Tian. The villagers hence fore addressed Ji Guan as “Zhang En Gong (张恩公). ‘En Gong’ meaning, ‘kind benefactor’.

1173AD: Age 35 In Yong Tai, there lived a rich landlord by the name of Zhang Wei Li. He will do anything to get some wealth. He will impose taxes and collect high rental to earn as much as possible from the villagers. He has a special crane build behind his house as a good Feng Shui measure to accumulated great wealth. However, a heavy downpour broke the neck of this crane. Wei Li felt very uncomfortable about this incident. He was afraid this would cause him to loose all this fortunes. Wei Li invited all the craftsmen in the country to repair this crane. However, all attempt to repair failed (as the crane neck will break off immediately after being repaired). Wei Li felt very worried and invited more craftsmen from afar as well. Just then, Ji Guan was invited. Ji Guan then said to Wei Li. “I can repair this crane on condition that you performance the salvation rituals for 49 continuous days”. Wei Li was forced to agree. On the 48th day, on seeing Ji Guan done nothing yet to the crane, demanded: “It’s already the 48th days and yet you have not even start doing a single thing. What is your intention! Ji Guan laughed and replied. “What’s the hurry? When you completed the 49 days rituals, the crane will be repaired to its original condition!” In the last night, Ji Guan uses his magical power and skill and repaired the crane to its original state. The next day, when everyone saw what have happened, they then realized this is a work of a powerful deity. They search for Ji Guan but couldn’t find him around any more.

1174AD: Age36 Its Autumn and the three brothers returned to Shi Nui Tong for their annual get together, to discuss and study and what they’re learned during the year. They then decided to go to Jiangxi Lu mountain to pay a visit to their Master (and to learn more from him). They cut bamboo to make a draft and carried it to Mingjian River. They used their magical power to cross many rivers and rough seas and finally reached their destination. However, Master Zhou already knew of their exploits and knowing that they have learned everything from him, decided to leave the place, thus the three brothers couldn’t find him around. The three brothers then kneed on the ground and kowtow three times (as showing respects to their Master), then returned to Fujian. Later, those people who saw the three brothers on the bamboo draft crossing those rivers and rough seas knew that they were deities.

1176AD: Age38 In the town of Anxi, people were suffering from a strange illness, known as the r red-scare ailments. No medicines seem to be effective. It had development into a very critical stage. At this time, Ji Guan was on his traveling mission and on knowing this epidemic, quickly started working to cure the sufferings. Ji Guan knew that there’s a special herb know as ‘Tian Shan Xue Lian’ (天山雪连) is the only cure. But Tian Shan is very very far away. Thus Ji Guan used some local herbs to treat this ailment temporarily. Ji Guan then used his magical power and speedily traveled to Tian Shan to obtain this rare herbs know as Tian Shan Xue Lian. After applying this rare herb, all the suffering people were cured soon.
After taking care of the epidemic in Anxi, Ji Guan took some of the Tian Shan Xue Lian’s root back to plant it in Shi Nui Tong. With great care, efforts and magical chanting, soon the Tian Shan Xue Lian started to grow. (This special plant is known to grow only in the snow mountain of Tian Shan). It is now a well known as ‘Nui Shi Lian’ (午时莲). It also Ji Guan’s special formulated herbs to cure this particular ailment known as red-scare ailment.

1177AD: Age39 Now able to ride cloud (i.e travel on a cloud). He passed the village of Mei Shan’s Bai Long Tou. Due to the dry weather and to save the year crops, Ji Guan was up early in the morning. He carries a water bottle make from a dried Hu Lu fruit. Ji Guan hanged this hu lu water bottle on a cassia tree truck. On the bottle he wrote: “Hu Lu bottle neck opening is now an water spring opening, supplying water endlessly for the paddy fields. The water will be fresh and sweet tasting.” Everyone in the village was very pleased. However, there’s one rascal by the name of Liu San Piano just wanted to create trouble. He pulled the hu lu from the cassia tree truck and flung it onto the ground. Upon hitting the ground, the hu lu broke and a huge body of rushing water (like a wild running river) rushes out and flood Liu San Piao’s house, flattening it in the process. Strangely, other houses wasn’t affected by this sudden flood. Hencefore, this place was known as Shui Liu Pu (水流埔), meaning Water Flooding Plains.

Soon it was winter. The village of Youxi San was covered with thick snow. In the hillside hut, a baby boy was born. The owner was very poor and the poor mother was very weak due to under-nourishment. He was very sad as he could see that both the mother and child wouldn’t be able to survive this harsh period. When Ji Guan saw the sad stage of this household, he pity them and uses his magic to create a bottle of red wine. He offered the wine and also some nourishing food (specially good for the blood) for the mother as well, thus saving both the mother and child.

1180AD: Age 42. It was August. Ji Guan when to visit his old friend, Zheng Si Tong. Ji Guan taught him some Taoist magic and chants. Zheng Si Tong was a very fast learner. He urged Ji Guan to spend the autumn with him and to enjoy the Mid-Autumn festival. After the Mid-Autumn festival, Ji Guan bid farewell to Si Tong. But before leaving, Ji Guan had written a book on Taoist magic art and presented Si Tong as a present. Afterwhich, Ji Guan returned to Shi Nui Tong.

1182AD: Age 44 It’s June. Ji Guan was traveling in Mingjian preaching the karma causes and effects. He discovered that this mortal world were full of evils and wrong doings. He summaries it with the saying : “There will be recuperation for all evils. There will be rewards for all good deeds.”Ji Guan also preaches the philosophy of Taoism.

Ji Guan also builds a small pavilion near the Jinsa Bridge for the conveniences of the travelers. Meanwhile, Ji Guan continues spreading the teaching of Taoism far and wide, endlessly. Eventually going back to Shi Nui Tong for the winter.

1183AD: Age 45. Already fully completed and accomplished his mission and finally ascended to heaven from the peak of Jiu Long Tan (九龙潭) mountain. Jiu Long Tan is on the northeastern slope of Shi Nui Tong mountain. It about 20-li away from Shi Gu Tian.
