Description: Advise
chaytiong - February 5, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
dear all,
i am about to invite the following deities into my house: Tay Choo Kong (deity in charge of the house) Datuk Kong (Datuk Keramat) and Toh Tay Kong (Earth deity, Tu Di Kong) the following questions would be enlightening to me if you could provide the answers:
1. is it possible to place Natoh Kong IN the house?
2. is it possible to place Tu Di Kong if there is a Tay Choo Kong in existance?
3. is it true that according to some ppl, placing Natoh Kong in the house restricts pork consumption in the house and perhaps being suceptable to marrying a muslim in the near future?
if there any further inputs pertaining to this topic, please feel free to add adn enlighten me.
thanking you in advance,
chaytiong

Hi CT,
Welcome back (from the wild Jungles of Sarawak to the concrete jungles of Subang! :D) Good to hear from you.
Just sharing my 2 cts...
i) WoW! why invite so many deities into your house? Opening a sintua at home? :P ..jk... I've never heard of people having Datoh Gong in the house. One of my neighbouring temple tranced Datoh Gong. This saturday I will go consult Datoh on your behalf (^^) and report to you.
ii) If I'm not wrong (which I don't think so), Toh Tay Kong = Tu Di Kong = Tua Pek Kong. Toh Tay Kong is hokkien. Tu Di Kong is mandarin. TPK is also hokkien/teochew. Cantonese address him as Tai Pek Gong. In every house or place, there will be a Tu Di Kong (as long as there is earth) - whether invited or not!
Best Regards!

hoi friend!!
no lah not opening sintua lah because for more than ten years alredi ah i never had a deity or a plaque under the heavenly altar and tien kong as well. only several deities lah . so i thought of completing the whole altar by placing "heaven" and "earth" elements in the house lah.
actually the story is like that, one day i was praying and the thought just came straight to my mind, so what i did was i ask the deities through puak puay whether can invite tay choo kong or not and Guan Yin ma approved! so the next round i thought of Datoh Kong and i puak puay and also approved! then my initial plan was to place the 2 under the altar side by side then i remembered 2 things:
1. if Tay Choo Kong and Datoh Kong is placed under the altar, then there will only be 2 statues; contrary to the odd and even numbers only 1, 3, 5 and 7 onwards.
2. if i put Datoh Kong in the house, that means my family must refrain from consuming and cooking pork and to the certain extend, disallow my dogs to come in the house!
i would really appreciate if you could ask the following questions to him:
1. is it ok to place tay choo kong and datok kong only in the house
2. and will datok kong placed in the house, restricts pork consumption and dogs entry.
3. and also the several questions posed earlier in this segment.
i really appreciate it if you could ask on behalf for me and i really appreciate if some of my questions could be answered by him. i Really owe you one, bro. i will bw waiting patiently for your report.
by the way what happened to Jave? haven't heard from him for such a long time :o

Hi CT,
i) As promised, will ask Datoh this saturday and revert soonest.
ii) Jave's pc gone on long m/c :) . I think he might have to get a new pc.
iii) btw, have you heard of the
慈仙坛? situated at 12 Jalan Burung Merbuk, Taman Sri Kampar? I was looking for material in water divination and guess what. I found more than I was looking for! WoW!
iv) Many people still cannot accept the fact that Tu Di Gong is Tua Pek Gong.
People think that "Tu Di" is earth, so Tu Di Gong must be place on the ground.
In fact, this is very very disrepectful and wrong. If Du Ti Gong, being a earth deity must be place on the ground, then where do you place Dragon King? Put it in the sea? Heavenly deities like Jade Emperor, put them in the sky? Buddha?
Why do people put Tua Pek Gong on the altar table instead of on the ground? Because TPG help them strike 4D or lottery, so must treat them better. Dress them better and also cannot put on the ground. Must place it on the alter table.
Part of this is due to folklore passed down from generation after generation.

as a matter of fact i have never heard of the water divination in Kampar till you brought it up. it is a small town which more often than not we would pass it if making our way up north. you must enlighten me more on the temple!
i agree with you on the TPK matter. its confusing and only ppl make it that way, not to mention disrespectful. but this is how ppl intepret and we have to acknowledge it.
i noticed you are very knowledgeable in this matter and i am sure you will be the right person to look for when i need more information on this matter.

Hi Chaytiong,
I just get to c your posting n know tat u r trying to invite Natuk gong into your house.I din heard of ppl inviting Natuk gong into their house before n before u consider doing it ,i hope tat u can reconsider it again.Natuk gong is a malay earth god n thus their way of offering prayer r diff from taoist deity. If u really wish to offer prayer to him then u must get their procedure rite .Heard tat if u wish to pray to Natuk gong u need to offer n burn shredded tobacco, areca nut flakes, betel leaves with lime paste and fruits n lots more tats totally diff from taoist practise. As for eating of pork ,i believe u better not since Natuk is a malay god n eating pork infront of him might be consider as disrespect ,this together wth the inabilty to pray to him according to their correct ritual might offence him further.I once heard of a story where ppl in sg n indonesia went to an island in indonesia to pray to a malay god asking for lucky numbers, hoping to strike lottery. Some of those who pray to him really strike ,this spread around which resulted in more ppl going there to ask for numbers. One of them was a ger who went there to pray with her sis ,not knowing wats unacceptable ,one of the sis change into her swimming custum n jump into a man make pond infront of the malay god,as a result she keep having nitemare n act in a way as if she is insane.ppl seen it as a way of punishment from the god since taking off of shirt especally for a ger n exposing some part of her body was a kind of disrespect to god.As for y ppl place tu di gong on the ground is because they feel since tu di gong is an earth god ,placing it on the ground might be more convenient for him hmm not knowing it might be a kind of disrespect, not because tu di kong din help them to strike toto tats y treated him differencely from tua pek kong.Another reason maybe is due to seniority, those of higher ranks r place in high places n those of lower rank in lower places ect i believe in taoist temple they place their deity according to their ranking in heaven such as jade emperor r alway place infront of the other gods n we alway pray to jade emperor before we pray to other gods simply because jade emperor is higher in rank than other gods in heaven.

Dear CT,
Last nite went to visit the said temple but unfortunately they're having a ritual to send off Zhou Guan and Tai Sui (reporting to Jade Emperor), thus there're no consultation. However, I spoke to the seniors there and was told the following:
i) It's okay to have Natoh Gong and Tay Choo Gong in the house. However, to serve Natoh Gong one must respect him by abstaining from consuming pork, especially the one praying. As to having dog, if the dog don't go near and disturb, then it's okay. It's better to have only one because both are deity in charge of the "land" in your house. Having both is disrespecting them (like having two senior in your house and when there is a problem, you asked one of them first - isn't this disrespecting the other one?).
On your question on marrying a muslim, the seniors never heard of such thing. In fact one of the senior have Natok Gong in his house and he have good Indian wife!
ii) During my conversion with temple seniors, I make an interesting discoveries (maybe the topic of my next research!). I was told that there are at least three kind/type of Datok(Natok) Gong; The Yellow dressed; The Black dressed & The Green dressed! The Yellow dressed Natok/Datok is more commonly seen as this is the more gentle and friendly one. The Black dressed Natok is seldom seen as it belongs to a secret magic cult (gongtao cult). Not much is known about the Green dressed one.
Regards.

hey bro,
thank you so much for the info. the pork case, that means cooking in the house is not encouraged. because it will only be me that will pray to him and my family; well not so often they will worship except on festival days. so i do not want to limit their consumption of pork in the house, nevermind i will only take off this project in March and then i will definitely make a decision and only made possible by you and the rest of the members' comments and opinions
thank you once again

Hi CT,
Here's some advice from my friend (a very experienced Taoist Master):
Quote:
Natoh Gong can be considered our local god. It seem very related to Muslims and many Chinese will be wonder such god can place at home or not? Before i proceed further, let me tell u that no chicken, duck and pig for Natoh Gong. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Let me begin from one of the Natoh Gong stories i learnt from a temple. Long ago, there was a giant tree located in one of the village in Singapore. Many villagers were vividly discovered a snake and a rabbit surrounded the tree very often. When they went nearer to the tree, the animals were disappeared. They were told by a medium that both the snake and the rabbit are generals of Natoh Gong. As a result, the village began to pray for the god. Thenafter, many stories began to spread out for example a villager fell sick when he was intended to cut the giant tree.
So, can u imagine there are many restrictions to pray for Natoh Gong. Will you take the risk to place Natoh Gong at home?
Best regards,
Master Luoming
