The significates of "beating the Xiao Ren" (Getting-rid of "back-stabbers")
Many people have asked this question: "Is it a must for a person to Da Xiao Ren (action/ritual on beating on paper-drawing human figure to get rid of all back-stabbers)?"
Usually the answer that the person get in-return is: "Of course a MUST and sure MUST and a DEFINITELY MUST..."
And why is a must, nobody knows neither the one who perform such a ritual doesn't know much.
To me, such a ritual is not necessary as long as a person stands upright, no evil-doings or so, such a ritual is an extra.
Beating of Xiao Ren is just an action that helps a person to lessen the burden in their mentality (helping them to keep their mind in ease of people putting harm on them or so).
Back to topic, so what are the necessary actions that involved while a person is engaged in such a ritual?
Here are some simple steps:
1. prepare a set of josspapers with a paper human figure, a tiger, a scholar, a horse and a red paper with many printed figures.
2. make all necessary requests infront of the Lord of Tiger (Hu Ye)
3. engage ritual masters/leaders to perform the beating of Xiao Ren (paper human figure), if a person knows the name or DOB, can always write them down on the human figure before the ritual starts
4. allow the master/leader to start the ritual by asking you certain questions (some don't ask)
5. ritual start, you will see the master/leader using a clog or slipper to beat hard onto the human figure and do certain chanting or sentences reciting (some can be very misleading and harsh, some can even used crude remarks like dying, handicapped, etc)
6. after the ritual, the master/leader will advise you to burn off the human figure (if still in good shape) with the pile of josspapers (including the tiger figure)
7. the scholar, horse and red paper must be retain and needed to be paste on the wall beside the Lord of Tiger altar, allowing the Lord of Tiger to give you the necessary blessing
8. after pasting the papers onto the wall, the ritual considers complete
9. come back to the temple next year for thanks-giving
And so, after such a ritual, a person will get fortune, rich or protected from rumours? This is up to individual.
One thing for sure, what ever you have done to the other party, the other party will sure have do something in-return to you and so, this cycle will not end until one side "disappear" from this "cruel world".
Let us sit back and consider on this issue: "Is there a must for such action to get involved for two physical mortals? Can't we use modern and a more efficient way to solve our mortal issues?"
Let's think about it.

I remembered an interesting anedote.......
Mrs DontKnowWhy always fry fish for the family without its' head and tail.
One fine day, Mr DontKnowWhy asked his wife where's the fish head and tail.
To his surprise, Mrs DontKnowWhy don't know....because her mother always cook fish without its head and tail!
Time passed and one day Mr DKW happened to met his mother-in-law, so asked her why. To his surprised again, mother-in-law don't know why. Just cook fish this way because her mother always cook fish this way!
On day, Mr DKW met his grand-mother-in-law and asked her why. Grand-mother-in-law then explained that during her time, the family was very poor and her only cooking pan is very small. So to fry the fish properly, she had to chop off the head and the tail! 'scholar'

Its interesting to note that people passed on so many habits/customs without knowing the reason why thus complicating our present day life!
