Hi All,

here are some short write-up on certain chinese food that we can usually see during celebrations or festivals, do enjoyed and feel free to add more :P

Chinese Food for Celebration:

1. Mee Sua - Longevity Noodles - for requesting long lifes or represent long life

2. Red Egg - for represent new born, new life, round (Reunion) or everything had a good ending

3. Spring onions (Chong) - represent bright, intelligent, clever or help to get rid of dirty entities

4. Chive (Koo Chai) - represent long term, forever or future

5. Leek (Xuan Hua) - represent counting, counting for fortune and wealth, for children will be getting good grades in exams

6. Tou Gua (Dou Gan) - represnt getting a position in the Imperial court as an Officer

7. Ang Ku Kuey - represent good luck, longevity, usually come in the shape of a turtle

8 Huat Kuey (Fa Gao) - represent getting fortune, wealth or raising

9 Dee Kuey (Nian Gao) - represent getting promoting, good luck in all things done, usually come in brown colour, but some can be in white

10. Siew Toh (Longevity Peach) - represent long life, made of flour and fillings of "Tao Sha" (Dou Sha/Lian Rong)

11. Ang Cho (Red Dates) - represent early, red or fortune and prosperity, usually used during wedding, to get the meaning of "give birth to baby fast"

12. Gui Yuan (dry Longan) - represent reunion, closeness and everything has a good ending.

13. Chang Shou Guo (peanut) - represent long life and also represent giving good birth to babies (Hua Sheng)

14. Pomelo (You Zi) - represent having more babies and the family-line wont stop

15. Mandrian (Gan) - in Canto means Gold (Kam), represent prosperity and good luck

16. Mi Fan (Rice) - represent good fortune and the family is wealthy

17. Chicken (cooked and not cooked) - represent in the family, there's a male who is able to carry-on with the family-line, on CNY, a cook/uncook chicken must be left in the home to represent a good start for the new year

18. Lian Ou (Lotus root) - represent unity of the family and the closeness of a couple

19. Bee Pong (Rice Cracker) - represent everything that has been done for the future will be successful

20. Kiat Hong (Ji Hong) - represent good luck and fortune, usually come in red and white little cubes
