Water scrying, or water divination, can be done in many ways. One of the most popular forms of water scrying, uses a scrying bowl, and has been in use for well over 1000 years.
Nostradamus is believed to have employed a small bowl of water as a scrying tool into which he gazed and received images of future events. Alchemists Edward Kelley and John Dee employed a form of scrying using a small crystal ball or shewstone - a piece of polished obsidion. The crystal ball and wax tablets used by Dee and Kelley are on display at the British Museum in London.
The scryer sits at a scrying bowl of fresh water and clears the mind of conscious every day thought. Once this stage is achieved, the scryer begins a free association with the perceived images suggested. As they sit they may blow into the bowl to create a clearing ripple effect, designed to clear away the mist that obscures the visions. The technique of deliberately looking for and declaring these initial images aloud, however trivial or irrelevant they may seem to the conscious mind, is done with the intent of deepening the trance state, wherein the scryer hears their own disassociated voice affirming what is seen within the concentrated state in a kind of feedback loop. This process culminates in the achievement of a final and desired end stage in which rich visual images and dramatic stories seem to be projected within the medium itself, or directly within the mind's eye of the scryer, like an inner movie. This overall process reputedly allows the scryer to "see" relevant events or images within the chosen medium. The bowl itself, merely serves as a window to look out into the world, whether it be past, present, or future.
During scrying - one gazes steadily into the scrying surface (feel free to blink or allow your point of focus to wander a bit; this is not a method of self-inflicted torture). Eventually, you should be able to pick out shapes or images in the scrying surface; these may appear as crude sketches, or occasionally with the clarity of a photograph. You will actually see these images with your eyes.
Once this happens, images may begin to form in your mind, no longer projected onto the scrying surface. When this happens, allow your attention to focus on these mental images. From this point forward, the scrying surface is irrelevant; do not be distracted by it.
As the images become clearer, you will find that you know things about what you are seeing Ð background information will come to the surface of your mind. Pay attention to what you know about the images you are seeing.
Many people believe that in order to scry using a bowl, the scrying bowl must be very large. Perhaps, they are unaware that one of the very earliest recorded scrying devices was the human thumbnail. So, if an object no larger than 1/2" X 1/2" was employed for the purposes of divining the future, it does not seem reasonable that you would "need" a very large bowl.
Most people seem to believe that the answers come from your higher self, or soul, rather than divinity. Your higher self has access to the past, present, and future, and can give very accurate answers to your most important questions. These are great little stone scrying bowls. Perfect for water divination, using the scrying bowls much the same way as a "scrying mirror". They are sturdy black stone bowls, that may be used as offering bowls, as candle holders, or incense burners, as well.
One of the benefits of using our black stone scrying bowls, are that there is no reflection off the back of the bowl to interfere with your concentration. These scrying bowls are also quite small, making them very easy and convenient to take with you, if you travel.
