"Men Behind the Sun" isn't actually a horror movie- but it is horrific.
Rarely do I watch a film and have "icky" feelings afterwards, but this one definitly left a sour taste in the back of my throat. In a nutshell, the film deals with Japanese experiments (on live specimen) during WWII. After watching the movie, I did some searches on Google for more information; when I was in school, we spent a great amount of time learning about the holocaust (sugar-coated, of course) but learned nothing about Japan's role in WWII. Which is strange- in some ways, Japan was worse. (You know It's bad when the nazis are telling you to cool it.) But, I digress. "Men Behind the Sun" is an uncompromising glance of that overlooked part of WWII... The film uses actual cadavers, and never cuts away or leaves something "to the imagination". I was rather irritated at times by the cheesy kung-fu dubbing- but that's hardly the fault of the film. Not likely a movie I would see again, but then again It's a movie that isn't trying to be "entertaining" or "exciting". Unlike in movies, carnage carries a far more sobering tone.
Discuss.
Wow, I have never heard of this film..Sounds very disturbing.
From what I understand, this is a rather disturbing series of exploitation films (four of them were made) running from the late 80's to the mid-90's. Heard of them, but never watched. kind of have the same infamous reputation as the Faces of Death & Guinea Pig films.
