Title: Stephen King Discussion
Moondragon69 - January 31, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
I know I already started this thread at TDR, but not everyone here is a member of that board. Stephen King rocks..He is my favorite author, and we should have a thread about his work here too for any of his fans here..
I have really been wanting to get my hands on a copy of Cell..I read the first page of it yesterday at Costco, and it was an excellent beginning. The opening paragraph really draws the reader in..I can't wait to get a copy and read all of it, but unfortunately I have to wait til payday.

I didnīt read it yet but maybe Iīll have a short peek. Stephen King really owns, but I have a question. Do you guys believe heīs actually one person or can it be that several ghostwriters publish their work under that name. After all only the name Stephen King is very profitable and a guarantor for a big seller.
Besides, which movie do you think is the best one? I liked "The Green Mile" and "Shining" (the old one was the shit) B)

Stephen King rules. The Dark Tower is some of his best work, but my favorite by far for a single novel has to be Insomnia. It's kinda been passed over by some readers, but what a great concept! My favorite movie adaptation of his has been The Green Mile because it's so true to the book right down to the most minute details. I also loved Kubrick's The Shining adaptation, and for a long time, that was my favorite, although the miniseries follows the original more closely. It's sort of an art house movie. I was a bit disappointed by more recent stories like The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Rose Madder, kinda struggled through them, but an author as prolific as King deserves a downer every now and again.

I went to a second hand store today, and I found a copy of IT..IT has always been one of my favorite Stephen King books, since I first read It the summer after I graduated from 8th grade. It was the second Stephen King book I had read, the first was The Tommy Knockers..Man, I loved that book..I remember spending hours reading it that summer..
The book was so much better than the made for tv movie..The novel IT has so much more depth than the early 90's movie version, although Tim Curry was great as Pennywise the clown.
I might start reading IT tonight...I really need my Stephen King fix, and I have been really bad lately about reading..Too lazy I guess.

Dark Tower is definitely his most impressive work by far, in my opinion. As for his movies, The Stand and Pet Semetary are my very favorites. B) The Cell should be great, from the sounds of it...

Has anybody been checkin out the Gunslinger graphic novel
Iam Zombie - March 2, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen them myself... I believe Fairy has 'em though.
~Fairy~ - March 3, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
Yep, I do have it.
If you have access to a comic shop, I suggest picking it up.
It goes into depth about Roland as a young man, and how he first becomes a Gunslinger.
It's awesome!!
Moondragon69 - March 4, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
I am going to have to buy it on Ebay..We don't have a comic store. :(

I just want to say that Sometimes They Come Back is a fucking awesome movie. I (re)watched it w/ G's boyfriends 8 yr. old daughter a couple weeks ago & she was so damn scared lol
Iam Zombie - August 1, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
It is a great one alright... one of the best from his short stories, I'd say.
Kare_Bear - August 1, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
yeah when we watched that movie Christina (the 8 yr old) cried & after it was over she looked at me and went "Oh my god Kari, that was soooooooooo sad!" lol I laughed & she cried harder then I felt bad
Iam Zombie - August 2, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
That story's sad too, although it's short to be a movie...
Kare_Bear - August 2, 2007 12:38 AM (GMT)
nah we could make it a movie with a lot of drawn out dialogue...OR OR OR!!!!!!!!!!!!...we could just play the other movie first then add that at the end...you never know...
Mr. Sin - August 2, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
I just think its funny they actually made two sequels to it. The first movie was good, but I haven't had the heart to catch the other two. At least they didn't go all Children of the Corn on the idea. Now that's a case of far too much use of a single short story. I dug the 1st one muchly-gopher from hell & all (Isaac is a creepy lil fucker and Malachai is teh shit!), but were SIX sequels really necessary?
Iam Zombie - August 2, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I absolutely refuse to acknowledge the existence of the sequels, but the original is classic.
Kare_Bear - August 3, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
I have seen them all...I wish I hadn't now.
Iam Zombie - August 3, 2007 03:58 AM (GMT)
We have all yielded, at some time, to the siren calls of sequels that should not be...
Mr. Sin - September 13, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
Looks like the Talisman adaptation is dead again.
From Fangoria:
No TALISMAN for TNT
Iam Zombie - September 13, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
Too bad... with Spielberg involved though, I'm never gonna say never.
