Who else gots love for the Dark Carnival?
ICP, ICP, ICP, ICP!...
I been down with the clown for several years now. On the surface, their music seems very offensive. It has overtones of violence, drug use, murder, and the like, but when you listen to what they're saying closely, you find that the message is really that all those things lead to consequenses. Most of their songs are about the underdog making good, and the rich and powerful getting their punishment for oppression. They have funny stuff as well as stuff that makes you think. They're all about escapism, and getting your frustrations out lyrically. They've only had a handfull of their records out on a major label, but they found that independantly, they could say whatever they wanted, without the music moguls over their shoulder. I recommend watching "Big Money Hu$tla$" even though the box says it's just for juggalos. It's really funny 70s style exploitation stuff. "Magic Magic Ninjas, WHAT? Magic magic Ninjas, WHAT?" Cameos include The Misfits, Cactus Jack/Mick Foley, Dolemite, Harlan Williams, and The Jerky Boys. For a crash course in the history of ICP, check out "Shockumentary". This was made way back in 1997 when they were still kinda starting out, but by then, they'd hit their stride, putting out a record on pop label Vibe Records, and having just signed with Island. At the time this video was released, ICP had just finished "The Great Milenko", the album that holds the record for most weeks on the Billboard Hip Hop chart.
