| Milan and Inter have differing views on the timing of the Derby della Madonnina, as the Nerazzurri aren't happy about it. The head-to-head clash at San Siro will be played in Week 5, so on the weekend of September 28, 2008 and the return fixture on February 15, 2009. “It's better that way, the games will be played with nice weather,” smiled Rossoneri general manager Adriano Galliani (pictured). “We've never played the derby in September before, but it is a good atmosphere for this type of match.” Inter disagree and are unhappy with the Week 5 meeting, especially as Milan are in the UEFA Cup. “It is better to play in Week 5 than just before Christmas like last year, but in that period there is the Champions League,” warned director Ernesto Paolillo. “The derby would be played two days before a game that could well be very important.” Galliani had other concerns, as the calendar has given Milan a dramatic title run-in for May. “What we are worried about is the incredible closing run of fixtures. You never can tell if this is good or bad for the team, as at the end of the day the chronology of the encounters counts for little.” The last four rounds of the Serie A season will be decisive for Milan's Scudetto hopes, as they will welcome Juventus on May 10, visit Udinese, then face Roma at San Siro on May 24 and finish the campaign in Florence on May 31. The dates of these fixtures are already decided, as the final four rounds are always played simultaneously on Sunday afternoon. “The Scudetto has been missing for a bit too long, but in the meantime we have won in Europe,” continued Galliani. “This year we are putting the title back at the top of our list of priorities. I won't say we'll certainly win it, but we will aim to be close to victory.” |
