Title: Bayern: We Will Take Gattuso

anano1214 - April 16, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has confessed that the club are interested in signing Milan hardman Gennaro Gattuso.

The 30-year-old Gattuso has had a hugely disappointing season for the Rossoneri, and has performed way below the levels that saw him crowned World Champion with Italy in 2006, and European Champion with Milan last season.

There have been strong reports in the Italian press over the last few days that Milan are set to signal a new era at the club by selling Gattuso in the summer.

Two of the biggest clubs linked with making a move for ‘Ringhio’ have been Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Indeed some sections of the press say that Gattuso has already agreed a contract with the German league-leaders until 2011.

Uli Hoeness has rubbished this speculation, but he dropped a bombshell of sorts by admitting that Bayern are interested in the World Cup winner.

"That isn't true," said Hoeness in reference to the pre-signed contract.

"But Gattuso is an interesting player."

Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Rangers have also been linked with making a move.

what paolo said about this

In these days there has been a lot of talk about the interest of many teams towards Gattuso. What do you think?
“I read on the newspapers that there are many requests for Rino, but I believe that there always have been. There are no doubts on the intentions of the club to hold him at Milan and not even Rino wants to leave.”

Gattuso Agrees Terms With Bayern
Gennaro Gattuso has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich and will soon sign a four-year contract to join the club, according to Controcampo.

Gattuso’s future at Milan has been uncertain for a number of weeks now, with the Italian press speculating that he will quit the club in the summer for a new challenge abroad.

A number of big European clubs have been linked with the 30-year-old, including Manchester United and Real Madrid, but it is Bayern Munich who had really made their interest known.

Yesterday it was reported in the media that the Bavarian giants had drawn up a huge contract offer for Gattuso.

Controcampo now says that the midfield hardman has accepted these terms, and he will sign a four-year contract at the club worth just under €5.5m-a-season.

All that remains now is for Bayern and Milan to agree on a transfer fee, with the Rossoneri said to be demanding at least €12.5m.

Milan have accepted that there is no chance of persuading Gattuso to stay, although they may ask for a cherry in the deal, in the form of French full back Willy Sagnol.

Sagnol has had a miserable season at the Allianz Arena, having fallen out with Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, and like Gattuso, may seek a new challenge following eight years in Germany.

and it was also written on goal.com that rino might have played his last game with milan already, sooooooooooooo sad

Gennaro Gattuso has ended speculation about his future by deciding to remain at Milan. "I'll finish my career here."

The pugnacious midfielder had been tipped for a move to Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Tottenham or Newcastle this summer as Milan look to revamp their squad after failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

While it was widely suggested that the arrival of Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini would signal the end of the road for Rino, a long meeting with Vice-President Adriano Galliani and agent Andrea D’Amico today seems to have cured his wanderlust.

“We are friends like we were before and I will stay here for another three years,” Gattuso told journalists. “I will finish my career here.”

Gattuso is under contract with the Diavolo until 2011 and has reportedly received assurances from Galliani that he is still seen as an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s side for next season.

Milan’s ambitious transfer plans for the summer must have been hit hard by missing out on Champions League football and Gattuso’s decision may have been influenced by the reduced chance of further midfield additions.
