Title: Kaka Could Be Called For Olympics – Dunga

melike - April 8, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
Brazil national team coach Dunga has refused to rule out Kaka being called up for this summer’s Olympics.

All teams participating in Beijing are allowed to select three players over the age of 23, and there have been strong calls for Kaka to be chosen for Brazil.

"Nothing has yet been decided,” said Dunga.

“First, we must still build a team with players that are under 23. When we have done this, we'll take care of the three over-age players."

Kaka has said recently that he would be open to playing at the Olympics but any such call-up is likely to cause a club-versus-country row.

The 25-year-old has struggled badly with a troublesome knee injury this season, and Milan would like for him to have an extended rest over the summer.

Furthermore there is a good possibility that Milan may need to participate in the qualifying rounds for the Champions League, which would thus require Kaka’s availability.

The ex-Sao Paolo man was back to something approaching his best at the weekend when he scored and impressed in the 3-1 win over Cagliari.

KAKA MAY SKIP OLYMPICS....
The Brazilian soccer confederation admit brazil may not be able to rely on Kaka' to be available for the beijing olympics. "it is going to be very difficult,'' CBF President Ricardo Teixeira told TV Bainderantes late Sunday. " We are not in the position to demand his release."

The AC Milan player has been saying he wants to help Brazil try to win their first Olympic gold in soccer, but he would need to be released by his Italian club. Depending on Milan's finish in the Italian league, they may need to to play in next year's European Champions League qualifying round which has conflicting dates with the Olympics. Milan are currently fourth in the stamndings, and the top four will qualify..

Even if released by Milan, 26-year-old Kaka must be summoned by Brazil coach Dunga as one of the three players over 23 years old allowed to supplement each squad.

He was young enough to play in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, but Brazil failed to qualify. Kaka was also not released by Milan to play in South America's qualifying event for the 2004 Olmpics. He will be 30 years old for the 2012 London Olympics.
