| Maldini set to postpone retirement 4 April 2008 | 18:30 - AAP AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini is toying with the idea of playing another year until the age of 40 instead of retiring after the current season. "Maybe I will add another year," Maldini told sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport. Maldini, who turns 40 on June 26, had initially planned to quit football after this Serie A campaign. But he said his nagging knee problems over the past years have finally improved, which could allow the defender to continue after all for a 25th year at the club. "I feel good and see that the club and my team-mates are asking me to continue," he said. Maldini has been at Milan since 1984 and recently played his 1,000th match for the club. He lifted five European Cup trophies and won seven Italian titles. Maldini earned 126 caps for Italy 1988-2002, with runner-up finishes at the 1994 World Cup and Euro 2000 the best results. |
