I want a sari too!!! :(

In France there is no traditional dress for weddings...the white dress that's all...

In Algeria we wear the white dress and a traditional one named "katifa"(it means Velour )they are made by hand and there are tons of styles and colors..

Ricky Kaka <3 - June 25, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
women in Saudi Arabia nowadays wear whatever they want .. but when they go out in the streets or malls they must wear something called 'Abaya' above their clothes .. it's something like a black cloth which looks like a dress and covers our bodies .. and we wear scarfs to cover our hair and some women cover their faces too .. it's a tradition we follow here in the kingdom .. and when a girl become in a certain age she must follow that .. and also because god told us to cover our hair from men who aren't our fathers, brothers, grandfathers and uncles.

the traditional abaya is black, and may be either a large square of fabric draped from the shoulders or head, or a long caftan. The abaya covers the whole body except the face, feet, and hands.

this is a pic for abaya .. it could be in deferents shapes ..

and for men .. the traditional dress for men is 'Thaob' which could be white in summer and black or brown in winter .. with a white cloth called 'gutra' .. they cover there heads with it cuz of the hot climate and sun

this is a famous singer in KSA wearing it

user posted image

there is also another kind called 'Shomag' which is red

http://desargroup.net/SHB_L_copy.JPG

also we have some thing called 'Besht' .. men wear it in occasions .. and long ago brids in one of saudi arabia reigons wore it in their wedding night

user posted image

but ofcourse .. guys especially youth wear casual clothes nowadays .. jeans & t-shirts

CrAzY FAirY - June 26, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
I love earing the Abaya!! but cus I'm young,I wear it only if I don't feel like I want to change my clothes! :P , few years later.. in age hm.. 18! I'll start to wear it daily cus I know that waking up for college won't allow me to have time for choosing what to wear!

but I really love it!
here I'm wearing it:.
user posted image
= we wear them in Kuwait too,,

my brother used to wear regular clothes, but since college he turned to wear the Deshdashah! (what the singer was wearing),, cus it's faster, just like I said, u wear them when u have no time for choosing what to wear :P

Ricky Kaka <3 - June 26, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
really .. i didn't know that you waer abaya in kuwait .. i thought it is worn only in saudi arabia, UAE, and Qatar ..

I think you should add Bahrain and Oman too :P ,, Arabian Gulf countries are 6! right? ,, in the 6 countries we wear the same + think the same...

what was that song? "7'aleejona wa7ed wa sha3bona wa7ed" = our gulf is one and our people are one! :D & our clothes are one

can I ask from what city you are? (my saudi family live in Al-Sharqeyah)

Ricky Kaka <3 - June 26, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
yeah we are similar in almost everything .. but i think in kuwait it's more free than other gulf countries .. about abayas .. i was really shocked when u told me that u wear it there .. cuz i always see kuwaiti women wearing clothes & scarfs :P

anyway .. i'm from the capital .. Riyadh :D

zar - June 27, 2008 08:22 AM (GMT)

No you didn't understand me...i know what an abaya is obviously but i dont know what that golden thing is called ....you know the thing they wear on their faces...not the abaya....
