| McClaren's Contract Terminated By FA The Football Association's 8:30am meeting is going ahead as planned - but without boss Steve McClaren, whose contract has been terminated, according to Sky Sports News... Steve McClaren is not present at the Football Association's morning board meeting in what may be the strongest indicator yet that his time with the English national side is over. The FA board convened at their Soho Square headquarters at 08:30 local time this morning, while McClaren remained holed up in private. With the former Middlesbrough boss doggedly refusing to resign despite failing to lead England to Euro 2008, it appears as if his absence from this meeting means that the FA are set to make the decision for him. Indeed, Sky Sports News has reported this morning at 09:00 local time that the Football Association have terminated his contract. UPDATE: McClaren will speak to the press at 12:00 local time. As such, his brief and unhappy reign over the Three Lions has come to an end. His has been the shortest ever tenure at England boss, and it's been nothing if not eventful. He took over on August 1st last year following the departure of Sven Goran Eriksson, but will be remembered chiefly for presiding over England's first barren qualification campaign since the World Cup of 1994. His record comprised 9 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats. According to Sky Sports, the list of favourites with odds for the job are as follows: Martin O'Neill 7/4 Jose Mourinho 7/2 Luiz Felipe 'Phil' Scolari 5/1 Guus Hiddink 6/1 Alan Shearer 10/1 Fabio Capello 10/1 Terry Venables 12/1 Stuart Pearce 12/1 |
