| Recent rumours emanating from Rio de Janeiro are saying that Romário may well join 1994 team-mates Jorginho and Dunga in the upper ranks of the seleçao coaching squad starting in the New Year... If true that would mean that three of the first choice starters who went on to win the World Cup in the US 1994 edition would be back together again in the Seleção Brasileira after 14 years. That means Dunga (Captain of the 1994 side) and Jorginho (first choice right-back at the time) and Romário (the number 11 scoring decisive goals on the road to the Final) could be reunited. The first challenge of the trio would be to win one of the very few titles that Brazil lacks in the Rio trophy room: the Olympic Gold Medal that has proved so elusive for the Seleçao. CBF President Ricardo Teixeira confirmed that this is, indeed, the route that both Dunga and Jorginho are thinking of: reforming the combo from 1994 with the Baixinho. “Dunga has already said that he'd like to count on Romário in the coaching squad, although we still have to sort a few things out: mainly the fact that Romário is still playing", he stressed. Talking to Rádio Brasil in Rio de Janeiro he added that "If he hangs his boots up then that's a future possibility and everybody knows that I have a soft spot for Romário", Teixeira added. |
