Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard insists that Ronaldinho must return to form soon, but has no doubt that the Brazilian is more than capable of reaching his full potential once more...
Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has urged Ronaldinho to show a 'reaction' to his recent poor form, and return to that which he is capable of.

However, Rijkaard has gone to great lengths to play down the Brazilian's recent difficulties. The manager insists that Ronaldinho can recover from his recent slump in form and that, "all players must suffer" now and again.

"There is no special case here. We're all working together and all the players are important," continued the Dutch coach.

"I forsee Ronaldinho returning to how he's been in recent years. I see that he can recover, I believe this.

"It's a case of action-reaction, and sometimes it's necessary to suffer. And when he shows his reaction, he's a phenomenal player.

"He needs to show his quality; with rage, aggressiveness or affection, he must react. But there is no doubting his quality; one can never avoid that."

Ronaldinho has only scored from set pieces so far this season in La Liga, and was not one of the leading lights during his side's 3-0 win over Lyon midweek, but Rijkaard insists that he is retaining his faith in the ex-PSG man.

"He's very, very important to the squad," said Rijkaard. "He's one of the strongest players in the world."

Rijkaard thus follows Lionel Messi in declaring his admiration for the Brazilian international forward.

Thierry Henry, another Barca talent, recently hit the headlines after remaining with the French squad to face Scotland in the Euro 2008 qualifiers despite being suspended.

Rijkaard claims that this was not a breach of club discipline and, indeed, he had given the ex-Arsenal man permission to do so.

He remarked, "He's the captain [of the French team] even though he was suspended, so when he asked if he could remain and train, I said to him that it was fine if he did so."

Finally, the manager looked ahead to the weekend crunch clash with Sevilla at Camp Nou.

"This match is very, very important for us and I want us to line up with that mentality," he said.

"[Sevilla] is a team that all works together, defends hard and presses remarkably forcefully when it has the ball. We need to play with humility and in order to win we must match their effort."
