Really, how much talent do ya really need to be a rapper? You don't need to take the time to learn how to play an instrument and actually get so good you're killer, you can collab, but not like a full band can.

Agreed. There are some artists today like Soulja Boy and 50 Cent that get all rich and famous and for what? Some stupid song with lyrics that don't mean shit? They aren't talented at all. You can tell just by hearing the song. It's ridiculous that this would actually be counted as hip-hop. I would be disgraced if I were someone that were influenced by Ice Cube or Dr. Dre whichactually worked hard to write and compose their music and wrote stuff like "You can lick my lollipop. Modern Hip-Hop is so booring IMO too. I don't know why half the school listens to it, but whatever is popular and "in" they will do it.

yeah, popular rap is very stupid these days... its nothing better that britney spears or some other dumb bitch, couse its all just an image, a desgn made by record company exsecs.

But, as in every style of music, there are artists that never went with this flow of stupidity, like Common, The Roots, Atmosphere, and soooo many other artists. Underground is on fire with the sounds of music :)

I can agree w/ what you are sayin', Tech N9ne and Bone Thugs are prime examples to me of genius lyrical content and I do believe it takes "some" talent to an extent to come up with lyrics such as theirs. BUT, I still stick by what I said about Rock and Roll music being more talented than rap music. A rock and roll musician does the same thing as a complexed thinking rapper does. They make and put sounds together that gives them lyrics what they need... same w/ makin' a beat. There's just a lot more room for evolution in making music than there is coming up with lyrics. Even today's lyrics in rap music are recycled. I dunno, I understand where you are coming from, but I think what I think.

As for freestyling... I've heard a handful of mfkrs that can freestyle and a lot of the shit they spit doesn't even make sense which to me is fuckin' stupid... so in conclusion... I'd rather not hear that shit at all. You can call that talent if you want, but I call it crap. To me, there's two things that give rap quality and time worth listening to... lyrics and the beat. I don't care if you can spit a thousand words per second, if it don't make sense... I don't wanna fuckin' hear it.

I'm not sayin' flow isn't important, it is very important for a good rapper, but I'm just sayin'... if that shit don't make sense... get the fuck on and that's basically what a lot of freestyle rappers do.

I agree with ShaGGz, there is shit in every genre of music, it just happens that the popular hip hop is the shit of the genre; there is a lot out there that is damn good that requires a shit-load of talent. The only genre of music I have a problem with really is Country music, man that shit annoys the hell out of me. Other than Country, I can like something out of any genre out there.
