DVD of METALLICA promotional videos by end of yearIn the latest issue of the METALLICA Club (the group's official fan club) members-only magazine "So What!", the following information was released:
"We can confirm that there will be, at some point, a DVD of all the promotional videos METALLICA have made. Word is it will emerge before the end of 2006, but given the nature of these things, let's just say that as details become available, we will let you know via the web."
As previously reported, Spanish METALLICA fan site CyberMETALLICA has uploaded several new photos taken during METALLICA's songwriting sessions for their upcoming album, tentatively due next summer/fall. Check them out at this location:
http://cybermetallica.iespana.es/noticias....rt_from=&ucat=&METALLICA's follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger" is being produced by Rick Rubin, who has previously worked with AUDIOSLAVE, SLAYER, SLIPKNOT, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich had the following to say regarding the band's decision to move away from using Bob Rock, who has produced every METALLICA album since 1991's "Metallica": In 1990, when we started using Bob, it was because Bob made all the best rock records that were going on at that time — MÖTLEY CRÜE, DAVID LEE ROTH, THE CULT — and he was involved in the engineering of all the BON JOVI records. Everything that was going on in the late Eighties was all about Bob Rock. And now, everything that's great about rock — from SLIPKNOT to SYSTEM OF A DOWN to the CHILI PEPPERS to MARS VOLTA, and even the JOHNNY CASH and NEIL DIAMOND records — it's all Rick Rubin. The same thing that brought us to Bob 15 years ago is now kind of bringing us to Rick. We want to work with the guy who's got the total finger on the pulse. And Bob was the first one to bless it, to say, 'Look, I don't know what else I can offer you 15 years later.' We finish each other's sentences. We know what he's going to say, and he knows what we're going to say. We made, what, like, five records with him? And he really had been the fifth member of our band for the last 15 years. As painful as it is, getting his blessing first was really important to us. So, so far, every side of it has been great."

METALLICA: The Videos ... available December 5thMulti-platinum hard rock band and seven-time Grammy-winning artists Metallica will release "The Videos -- 1989-2004" -- the first-ever music video retrospective DVD on Warner Bros. Records, December 5th.
The collection -- which includes all 21 of Metallica's videos, plus bonus features -- spans the years from 1989's "....And Justice For All" to 2003's "St. Anger," and features pioneering videos such as the muted color toned, film noir-classic "One," Metallica's ground-breaking first foray in music video.
With the 1991 release of "Metallica" (The Black Album) came the Wayne Isham-directed clips "Enter Sandman," which peppered performance clips alongside a nightmarish dreamscape, "Wherever I May Roam," featuring clips from a 1992 San Diego performance, and "Sad But True." "Metallica" went on to sell 14 million copies in the U.S.

About METALLICA's videos DVD
METALLICA released its first-ever collection of all its music videos, called "The Videos 1989-2004", on Tuesday, December 5. The DVD contains all 21 of the band's videos, from 1989's "One" to 2003's "Some Kind of Monster", along with a few bonus features. Drummer Lars Ulrich told Launch that the project had been on the band's radar for a while. "It's one of those things that you just had in the back of your mind for a few years," he said. "It's like, we should just get all this crap out on one DVD, 'cause, you know, so many kids are always asking about it, and there's just so much of that stuff that, you know, nobody sees anymore. And, you know, especially with how MTV in America and...it just seemed like, you know, people always ask about it."
The DVD also features alternate versions of the "One" and "The Unforgiven" clips, as well as the trailer for the band's 2005 documentary, "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster".

METALLICA Drummer Says New Album Is Not As 'One-Dimensional' As 'St. Anger'
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's much-anticipated new album, tentatively due in the spring via Warner Bros. Records.
"This stuff is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," he said. "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes. It's pretty different from 'St. Anger', and it's pretty different from the 'Load' stuff. This stuff is not the one-dimensional punch in the face that 'St. Anger' was. This is probably a little more like those couple of albums back there in the decade that begins with an '8.'"
When asked if the material represents a return to the "old school," Lars replied, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the f**k? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me. It's been no secret that Rick [Rubin, producer] suggested to us that we use a couple of those records as reference points — that we spend some time kind of accessing that headspace. So when we would come to forks in the road, sometimes the exercise became, 'What would we have done at this point in 1985?'"
For more of Revolver's conversation with Lars Ulrich, pick up the February 2008 issue of the magazine, available on newsstands now. More information is available at www.revolvermag.com.

rick rubin is a great producer,
and can you picture metallica making an album like minutes to midnight?
I think not , from a 2003 show in berlin there was a bootleg floating around on the net which considered 2 new songs..
I'm not sure of the titels but I can say that I was impressed because it was very back to "master of puppets"
mr.sinester - January 12, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
I am not sure Rick Rubin is right for Metallica though. They should just produce it themselves. Damn, at least they got rid of Bob Rock though.

Mr.Sin:
Rick Rubin has produced for Slayer, American Head Charge, Slipknot, System of a Down...he can produce Metallica!!! Open your mind and understand he can help artists produce great work, and Metallica will not be an exception. Whoever produced St. Anger should never work in music again.
mr.sinester - January 12, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah St. Anger was Bob Rock and he sucks. Yeah I agree Rick Rubin has an excellent history of making 5 star albums. Hell, I at least own 20 CD's that he produced that are on that list and I cherish them.
For some reason the past few albums he has produced I have had little interest in (Mezmerize & Hypnotize) or hated (Minutes To Midnight). Except Stadium Arcadium. That was a great record.
Rick Rubin will only make Metallica more mainstream, and I would hate to have a record like that from them. Ehh, I just feel shaky about the whole Rick Rubin producing their next record. However, it might be a great record. We'll see when it drops.

New METALLICA Album Pushed Back To September?
Stereo Warning reports that the release of METALLICA's new album has been delayed again, according to the band's record label. The band's ninth studio CD is now expected to hit the stores in September. Originally METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said it would be out in February, then the release was pushed back to April.
Ulrich recently spoke with Revolver magazine about the band's upcoming LP, which will be its first all-new effort since 2003's "St. Anger". Ulrich told the magazine that the group's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group's '80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".
Ulrich wouldn't agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a full-blown return to the past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fu**? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me."
The drummer also revealed that producer Rick Rubin, working with the band for the first time, wanted METALLICA to use classic efforts like "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" as "reference points" for its new songs.

METALLICA's Management: New Album 'Will Be Out When It's Ready'
A representative for METALLICA's management has responded to a report on StereoWarning.com which claimed that "sources from the band's record label" have said that the group's new album has "been delayed again" to a September release. The representative told The Pulse of Radio that the disc has not been "delayed" since there "has never been an actual release date." As for when the record was likely to surface, the representative said, "It will be out when it's ready."
METALLICA began working on its ninth studio album in 2006. Since then the group has taken its time to write and record the new disc, but drummer Lars Ulrich told The Pulse of Radio it isn't hard to stay inspired even 25 years into the band's career. "I don't use the word 'career,' 'hunger,' I use more words like 'fun,'" he said. "As long as we keep it fun for ourselves and keep it kind of manageable, the days of the word 'career' and the business and, I don't know, it just seems kind of part of the past. Now it's just about, like, having fun and wanting to do it. You know, as long as it doesn't turn into too much work, it's not hard to be inspired."
METALLICA has been recording the new album with producer Rick Rubin after ending a 15-year collaboration with Bob Rock.
The new METALLICA CD will follow up 2003's controversial "St. Anger".
As late as last October, Ulrich said in interviews that he expected the new album to arrive in February of 2008.
METALLICA has booked a number of European festival appearances starting in late May, although it has yet to schedule any North American dates.

Here it is! The Track Listing For METALLICA's "Death Magnetic"... wait, still no date?!
Metallica released the track list for their new album, Death Magnetic, earlier today after a sheet music site accidentally revealed and then deleted the track listing. The song titles on the Rick Rubin-produced album follow Metallica's usual dark themes of nightmares and death, but one track name sticks out right away: "The Unforgiven III," which follows the black album’s “Unforgiven” and ReLoad’s “Unforgiven II.”
The record is due in September, and as previously reported, Death Magnetic will be released in three different packaging options from MissionMetallica.com. The varying packages include digital delivery of the CD, studio footage, photographs, and a five-LP 180 gram box with individual sleeves. Also, Metallica plans on releasing the album in a special edition coffin case which will include demos of the songs, a DVD, a t-shirt, guitar picks, a poster and a special download card. On the day Death Magnetic is released, Metallica also will release each track for Guitar Hero III.
The full track list and proper order of the songs are below:
1. “That Was Just Your Life”
2. “The End Of The Line”
3. “Broken, Beat & Scarred”
4. “The Day That Never Comes”
5. “All Nightmare Long”
6. “Cyanide”
7. “The Unforgiven III”
8. “The Judas Kiss”
9. “Suicide & Redemption”
10. “My Apocalypse”

St. Anger deffo had something to it,

I do agree with you on one thing.. the olde rmetallica was way better then st. anger.. but st. anger didn't suck.
the clips and live stuff I heard seem to sound alot like the older stuff
I hope it turns out cool.. and I'm kinda stoked about the unforgiven pt 3...what's up with that?

St. Anger fucking blows. That right there, is one of the most uninspired records I have ever heard. The snare drum is just atrocious, and where are the guitar solos? Kirk Hammet is a monster of a guitarist he should have put in some solos in there. I guess we could blame that giant piece of crap Lars for dictating the direction of Metallica on that there record.
Still excited about Death Magnetic though. Its sounding pretty thrashy.
