Over Time
This is where everything season, weather, and offspring related can be found. It makes things a heck of a lot easier if you know the season, current weather, etc, when you role play.

New Barn
After the previous barn was stuck by lightning and considered condemned, a new barn arose from the mist, or something of the sort. It took a bit longer than a traditional barn rising to build, but the Crawfords aren’t exactly Amish folk. The barn took something shy of seven months to build; luckily it was a spring storm after a dry winter, which left opportunity to keep the cattle outside while the barn was being built.

The color is nothing out of the ordinary, being all wooden and having a very customary coat of red paint, which still hasn’t lost its luster just yet. The trim is also a nothing-out-of-the-ordinary white. Of course the white doesn’t shine so much under the dirt, but if one were to go through the effort of washing it, they’d probably find that it also holds a shine; though not one of those formidable ‘in-the-movies’ shines where every person must shield their eyes from the utter brightness.

The inside is quite spacious, as the barn is rather far from petite. There is a section to the left where cows are milked in the morning every day, while to the other side are two stalls, fit to keep a horse or sheep if wanted, though more or less for orphaned young, which cows have rejected. The latter leads to the loft, which is probably the most popular place among the cats in the barn. Bails of hay as well as other supplies are stored here, though not in the quantity seen at the Canterlyn ranch.

Last but not least is a stall set off to the side, holding the old mare, Sally. She’s been around almost as long as Mr. Crawford has owned the ranch, the dingy brown colored horse nearing her late twenties. Though without fail, she faithfully helps with any farm chores that require her assistance… at the cost of a sugar lump or two.

The Stable
Believe it or not, the horses aren’t always out on a trail or grazing in the pastures. The large stable holds a minimum of twenty stalls, probably more where stallions, brood mares, and just other trail horses are alternated through on a daily basis. The stable sets on a grassy stretch of land, curving slightly into a hill at the base. It is not a long walk from the stable to the corral, where horses are usually being hoarded back and forth. Large hooves can make for a dangerous deal as well, especially if one gets too comfortable around them.

Ranch hands are generally used to seeing cats around and will do nothing more than shoo them out of the way, but the owner has actually taken to setting several bowls of cat food out in a room off to the side, which holds bags of horse feed, along with a refrigerator that has things such as basic vaccines, sodas for the ranch hands, and a supply of carrots. The room is more or less a boxed area to the side, as there is no doorway; one has easy access to walk right in. As for water, they generally have a lot of buckets setting off to the side near the washing stall, which are filled with water.

Also, up top is where bail upon bail of hay is stored. They are simply stacked, and provide many nooks and crannies for cats to hide in and sleep in. It’s also not unusual for a mother to keep young kittens away from danger. People do take bails daily, but restock weekly. The whole supply never runs out. A lot of mice also find their way up within the bails of hay and despite the fact that it’s stored in the mere rooftop; there is good hunting, even during the winter months.

Primary Pasture
The majority of the horses are let out to graze in the front pasture. Most of which are trail mares and geldings, along with some of the yearlings that are being kept to be broken as trail horses. The field spreads many acres, and provides sweet grass to graze on. Of course, not only is this place popular with the horses, but it’s wildly popular with rabbits, and even the occasional grouse, which in turn bring cats. The grass is soft and great to lie in, as well as good hunting during the summer months. Of course, there is the cause for skepticism, as being stepped on by a horse could easily crush a cat, though the horses never purposely trample the felines.

During spring and summer, wild daisies and other wild flowers dot the pasture, bringing many butterflies to flutter around fields. The sight is nearly irresistible for the youngest of cats.

A shelter rests at the far end, big enough for about three horses. A large water trough is right beside it, where cats can work themselves up the side of the shelter for a drink.

Secondary Pasture
More off to the back is the secondary pasture. Mostly breeding pairs, retired horses, and mares with foals are kept here… basically any horse that isn’t being currently used for trail riding. Though slightly smaller, this pasture is as nice as the other one, sporting the beautiful green meadow etched with the whites, yellow, pink, and lavenders of wild flowers.

The most known sight here though, is the breeding pair of sheep, Anne and Wiley. In late winter they will usually have a pair of lambs who hang around until sometime around may, when they are sold for farming purposes, often to high school students to raise and show.

This field for the most part holds less horses than the primary pasture, but when space is tight, any stallions will be put in stalls while mares and geldings can be let to temporarily stay in this pasture. Fall and winter typically has no rules on who is let in this pasture, yet stallions are most often kept away from the horses.
