Manga FTW!!!! ^o^

Suigintou's Friend - August 16, 2006 06:44 AM (GMT)
I can vote for both, so I guess I will! :P

Seriously though, I spend a lot more money on manga, but anime is nice because it comes with such peripherals as seiyuu, music, and the possibility of animated .gifs, among other things.

I prefer anime. I've read a few mangas before, but I didn't feel like I made the same connection to the story, characters, etc. as when I watch anime. The idea of black and white comics just seems a bit... dry to me.

Haw, me too!

One of the nice things about having both is you can get different emphases with the same material. Anime is often lighter fare, which for me is a plus. Manga frequently has more story to it, and the characters have better depth to them. Put them together and you get one mighty satisfying experience.

Am I the only one who prefers manga? Ž.Ž
....
T_T <- Norman, you should get a emote like that.

Akane - August 16, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
No, you're not the only one XD
I prefer manga over anime.
Mostly because the manga
is the original storyline and there
are details in the plot that most of the time
are left out in the anime series.

and yes, most manga is black and white.
Or it can be blue or magenta also =]

It was a hard decision but I vote for anime even though I love manga too. Both are great and awesome. And I  it.

Anime, is it just me or does it seem like anime is destroying manga.... yet the poll is almost even... :omfsm:

[insomnia] - June 1, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
Manga, because I never have the attention span to watch anime. This way, I can put the book down and come back to it when I am ready. Anime, if I don't watch it, I forget about it. : P

[The polls are exactly even >.>]

Manga cuz its the origanle

No. Some anime is adapted from manga, true, but some have been adapted from books (Gankutsuou, Shana), games (Higurashi, Air, Ragnarok, and a lot of harem anime), and even western TV series (Night Head Genesis, Witchblade). Plus there are those which started as an anime (Eva and The Big O are examples, I think - and Nanoha kinda counts too).

Saying that you prefer manga because it's the original is like saying... that you prefer ice cream to cake because it's vanilla-flavoured, perhaps? Maybe it fits your experiences, but your reasoning doesn't account for the fact that being vanilla-flavoured isn't linked to being ice cream.

It appears to be a common mistake, though. (Thus my addressing it.)

My own answer to this topic is based on my view on possibilities; by allowing for music, animation, colour, and such, I think anime has a higher potential than manga as a medium, and hence, on a theoretical level, I prefer it.
In practice, I also lean towards anime, for various reasons: one was mentioned in the subs vs. dubs topic, plus also I don't like how action scenes can be restricted by manga.

I don't think I have a preference, but on the manga side (because Bara-Bara just gave my pluses for anime):

*I'm into plot and characters more than action so I don't mind lack of movement.

*Manga frames aren't restricted to the set screen size or even shape. A nice example is the first RM manga. Turn the page and there's Swiggy filling the double spread with that freaky smile of hers. She's staring at you with every frame you read. That kind of thing only sometimes works in anime.

*Sometimes the manga has more detailed artwork - since detail is hard to animate.

I like both equally.

With manga, you can use your imagination a lot more: how the characters' voices sound, how they move and interact, and such. I prefer being able to look at an image and appreciate it, which you just can't do with anime unless you're looking at it frame-by-frame. The manga format allows an artist to experiment with page layout, framing, and art tricks. I also personally prefer black and white artwork to colored artwork in most situations.

With anime, there's a lot of extra goodies, like others have said. You can see the action happening in front of you, which brings it to life and makes it easier to understand and relate to.

Overall, I think it's best to look into both a manga and an anime when you're considering a series. Usually, I have favorites on an individual basis: I prefer Rozen Maiden's anime, but I prefer Tokyo Mew Mew's manga, and so on.

I canīt say which one I prefer.

In Shounen Iīd say the Manga, as the Anime often enough messes up.
In Slice-of-Life I clearly prefer the Anime, as I enjoy the funny situations way more in Anime-form ^^

And sometimes the Anime really differs at some points from the Manga (Rozen Maiden, Soul Eater, etc...) and thatīs when I really donīt know what to prefer ^^;

I like both manga and anime.

Manga usually can have a more detailed story with lesser costs and can be read in tram/bus.

On the other hand anime has voice actors and animation.

Hmmm... my opinion has changed quite a bit over the last two years (likely due to my reading a lot more manga during that time frame than I had before). I like anime and manga about equally now.

i like them both, but I do watch and prefer anime more, most of the time.

There's one thing I don't like about anime - recycled voice actors - it's so weird when I watch one anime and hear characters from other ones XD .
