Title: Arcade?
Stormin Norman - June 7, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
Another question for you folks today: should we get an arcade added to the forum? It'd be the same as most of the other InvisionFree arcades, so it won't be the most original add-on. But the games can be fun, and we might be able to have some arcade contests.
What do you think?

I've never heard of such a thing. Got a link example?

You can check one out
here. You'll need to register there, though.

i say yeah...it is some fun especially when you're the only one on the forum and you can't really do anything...

NO.
And whatever. I've been on forums that have gotten arcades before and they've all gone to the dogs. What happens is new people join just for the arcade (and if you set it so they can't play unless they have n posts is they spam-fest the place). And already-members end up spending all their time playing games instead of posting. It's bad for the site.

Hmm.... Well, as I saw it, my family runs an IPB forum, and we have an arcade... Everyone still continues to post. IF people did post at all, what you could do is put a post requirement on the arcade... [EX: 25 posts in order to play.] And, from my understanding you can password protect the arcade - Only give it to those who have 'X' amount of posts.
If password spreading is an issue, maybe you can set certain groups that are able to access the arcade - Or, if you can't do that, document those who have access to the arcade, and ban those who hack it or are not supposed to access it.
Just throwing ideas out there. ^^

Like I said, then they just spam-fest the place. Both of the forums I was one were IPB too.

The website will only become spam infested if the staff is not willing to work for the site. It's going to happen anyways, arcade or not, and you know this as well as I do. [No disrespect intended, by the way. I have just seen a lot of good sites crash because of laziness.] Granted, the arcade most likely will bring more spammers, but just being affiliated in any other sites, or even Googling will bring spammers, hackers, and threats/annoyances to the site. It will happen.
But, if Norman does not wish to take time to bring an arcade, then that is fine. I know I wouldn't because all of my users are gamers, and would do nothing BUT game and have flame wars over the threads.
