Title: ZetaBoards

Stormin Norman - March 9, 2007 09:19 PM (GMT)
As I'm sure some of you already know, the beta version of InvisionFree's new forum system ZetaBoards has recently been released. In a few months, once all the bugs are worked out, we will have to decide whether we wish to upgrade, or stay with the current InvisionFree IPB 1.3 board.
I have created a test forum to check out the new Admin CP, which can be found here. You're welcome to register there and poke around if you like. Also, the official ZetaBoards Beta test board is located here.
When it comes time to choose about an upgrade, I will post a poll to see what the members wish to do.

Eh, it's nice and all, but is it really worth the upgrade? What kind of improvements would we see?

A lot of new features. The ability to create avatar galleries and custom profile fields without messy mods, a search feature that actually works, and others. Supposedly an easier to use Admin CP (though I'm already having some troubles getting the forum permissions to work right :pinch: ). And it's supposed to be more secure, too.

Would upgrading require us to lose the current forum data, or is it a simple matter of running a certain script or requesting it?

And also, ZB wouldn't happen to have a Skin Selector would it?

We would keep all of our members and posts, though we may lose our skins.

And yes, it does have a built in skin selector.

...One that /works/ right?

If so, then I say go for it. Because, really, those mod ones are CRAP. Just make sure that we save the skin, and we can revive it later.

Or, do you mean that it requires a different set of CSS code?

Yes, it's completely different. But the IF admins said they might try to make a converter of some sort.

Euphorian - March 10, 2007 12:24 AM (GMT)
Bah. Well, I say still do it. I'll convert my code manually if necessary.

...as long as I can keep my post count...

So do we have a verdict?

Not yet; I'll post an official poll when it gets close to time to decide whether to upgrade.
