Title: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Description: Licensed by Geneon

Suigintou's Friend - March 7, 2007 09:12 AM (GMT)
Synopsis

So yeah, it'll be released in Region 1 under the name "When They Cry - Higurashi" and will be released on June 6.

As far as the series goes, it was one of my favorites last year. I watched the first episode and was thinking "yeah ok this might go somewhere and be halfway interesting," but once it hit episode two... oh man. If you haven't seen it and want to be afraid to sleep, this is what you want to watch.

Anyway, I figured we could use a thread here, as I know that Bara-bara is a Higurashi enthusiast, and a couple others have seen it.

I have indeed seen this anime, and it is one of my favorites.

But honestly, When They Cry? That's a terrible title. :erm:

Blame the creators of the series, because that's the official English title. :baka:

Yes, Oyashiro-sama shall invoke his wrath on the creators for the crappy English title. =P

Indeed! ☆

Since I don't think Geneon distribute here, though, I'm more interested in the announcement of a second season than I am in season one having been licensed. ^^

And my personal view on "When They Cry" is that it's too ambiguous (when what cry?); Geneon's adding of "- Higurashi" is nice (because it means 'Higurashi' still works as a series abbreviation or unambiguous keyword for searches), but I still prefer the Japanese title.

Daisuke CP9 - March 10, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
Higurashi was a great yet thrilling series I agree. The title When They Cry isn't much of a problem for me really. It is practically the English Translation of the name in some parts say or so.

But yeah, looking forward to how Geneon does the dub as well as the 2nd season, we may finally have Hanyu appear :whoa:

Damn, I was pushing for "Psycho Murder Cuties"

The date for the release of volume 1 of the region 1 release is June 5, not June 6. Well, whatever! ;p

Suigintou's Friend - May 11, 2007 06:21 AM (GMT)
There appear to be slightly different character designs for the new season, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni "Kai."

Rena looks a bit more like her PS2 version, I think. The others have changed a little too subtly for me to really notice, though... ^^

Stormin Norman - May 11, 2007 11:57 PM (GMT)
I don't see any differences at all... o.O

To me, they feel a little... sharper? than the first season. Of course, promo art is usually much sharper than animation. But as actual animation was one of the weaker points of Higurashi to me, hopefully with a bigger budget this time, they'll have improved it.

Yay! Hanyuu!

rekishi - May 26, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)

Episode 1 of the second season, "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai," has aired and already has been subbed, too.

And watched, too.

Fera - July 6, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
The OP is hauntingly beautiful.

I haven't actually watched the first season yet but it's on my to buy list, I really should have watched it while I had the chance. I hear nothing but praise for it. I'll be sure to get the DVD's once they are all out.

Shadow Shade - July 6, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Awesome anime. Pretty brutal and horrific @@ But awesome none the less :D

Was that the [Hauu~], [BSS], or [anon] version you watched, and how did its quality seem? I'm currently thinking I might wait for [wind] to release something, unless there's a better group on it already. ^^

The first one, and the quality seemed fine to me.

I have seen the first 6 eps.. i didnt really care for it.

Ryuzaki-san - July 18, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
This anime is INSANE! You would have to be on something to not get freaked out by this anime.

Eh? I'm not, and wasn't...

I mean, I appreciate that most find it pretty disturbing, but one should remember that some people have seen a lot worse... =P

Ryuzaki-san - July 19, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
I was exaggerating but I understand what you mean.

Uh... Is sarcasm really what you were using there (and not, say, exaggeration)? Because if so, I have no idea what that previous comment was trying to say. O_o

Sure........that's what I meant........

Omg yes, a Higurashi topic. *____*

Higurashi is really the first series that I've seen that was so dark and disturbing, yet still light and amusing at some points <3

I have the first DVD of the dub and it's really not that bad (except for the pronounciation of "Hinamizawa" and "Oyashiro" @_____@;; and Rena's voice.)

And Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai TxT I am so happy with it, the art is better than the first season(not saying that it wasn't good, it was good art <3) and there's HANYUU <3<3<3

...Rambling, sorry ._.;

Suigintou's Friend - August 16, 2007 07:34 AM (GMT)
So, regarding the first arc in Kai:

[spoiler]Poor Satoko. Not only are you paranoid about being followed, but you're worried about your best friend. Then she gets murdered practically right next to you, you are chased by the murderers, then you come back to town and find that everyone's dead! That's gotta be one of the harshest arcs yet.[/spoiler]

I still say that my favorite arc of the whole (animated) series so far is Onikakushi-hen. Those first four episodes just blew my mind and started my addiction.

Ryuzaki-san - September 13, 2007 03:22 AM (GMT)
I loved Onikakushi-hen. I would never have gotten into the series if it wasn't for that first arc. And I still think it was the best.

hilloneko - December 15, 2007 04:41 AM (GMT)
I very much love this series, it is soo creepy and I am never able to guess what new horrible thing is going to happen next.

I am just curios, I won't say anything about the story line for Kai just in case people are still watching the first season but does anyone have a feeling that kai is going to end well. I would like it too but I have a feeling that the ending will be very sad.

Really? I've got the opposite feeling, it seems like it's going to end well to me.

I've got the feeling that I have no idea if it will end well or not, but it will probably be awesome.

According to ANN, season 3 will be called "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei."

Suigintou's Friend - May 8, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
And also according to ANN, the third "season" will be an OVA. :baka:

I like it when rika ticked off on kai i think it makes me laffie

Rose Crystal - July 6, 2009 03:38 PM (GMT)
I started watching this anime, and I really like it. So far, I've watched the first 3 chapters.

I'm just confused by the whole "chapter" setup. So every time, it goes back to the beginning, and it's as if nothing from the previous chapters ever happened?
It's kind of weird.

You'll see why that happens later in there. ^^

>_< Eagerly awaiting the next release of the OVA.
The last arc in it was pretty great.
I like the series better when they focus more on the serious elements but I guess they have to have comic relief as well to balance it out.

Hmm... It's been awhile since I've watched the series actually.
Reading this thread makes me want to watch it over now. XD

Razor - August 31, 2009 01:14 AM (GMT)
I think episode 4 of Rei came out recently, although I have yet to see it.
