Title: FF vs IE

Stormin Norman - January 4, 2007 08:40 AM (GMT)
So, which browser do you use?

I use Firefox, 'cause it has more features and IE is more prone to viruses and such.

Kino ex - January 4, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
I use Opera, 'cause it has more features and IE and Firefox is more prone to viruses and such.

It's also proven faster and safer then Firefox. Opera also has built in BitTorrent and IRC. Better skins and customization.

I used IE until I switched to Safari. It was a bit of a wrench, because Mac IE was pretty good, much better than the Windows version of the time, but Safari was, what's the word, still supported. Then I (recently) switched to Shiira, because Shiira didn't take like a minute to start on my TiBook. I continue using it because it's pretty all right.

I briefly tried FireFox but it was totally not fast, so that's boo.

Mago - January 5, 2007 07:05 AM (GMT)
Firefox for the same reasons as Norman.

I might believe you if you provided good evidence. It's unwise to believe unsubstantiated claims on the internet, particularly on subjects which people fanboy over.

It doesn't matter if I accept that or not, though; I've by now got Firefox working almost exactly as I want it (and could maybe go the rest of the way if I looked into the source and such) so I doubt I'd change to anything else.

And even if there are significant security holes, it's not like I frequent the areas of the internet where exploits are common anyway. ^^

weird-osaka - January 5, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
The poll is missing two options: Opera and all of the above.

I use Firefox, Opera and IE.
Firefox I use as my standard browser, Opera I use sometimes for the same purpose and IE I use at work to test things.
IE is not being used at home.

lauscho - January 11, 2007 12:22 AM (GMT)
I'm not one of those faithful elitists who thinks that FF > all just because. I preferred it on Windows because of tabbed browsing, meaning less clutter in the taskbar, though that hasn't been much of an issue since I switched to Mac. However, after using FF for a year or so, I've become accustomed to it. Mac OS X's own browser, Safari, is pretty close to FF, though ^^

Nidas - January 11, 2007 08:59 AM (GMT)
I use lolifox, a modified version of Firefox so I guess I'll vote Fox.

I don't use Fox because of its great security or speed but because I couldn't survive without some of the plugins anymore XD

It's not about speed. The speed depends on your connection. Sure, if you are connected with DSL you may want to use Firefox. But if you arent on DSL and are on High speed internet service providers such as Cox or Comcast, whichever browser you use won't make the difference. But I've tried Firefox multiple times. And you know what it did? Whenever I'd go to a site it always locked the site up and I was never able to do anything in Firefox!...he only reason people use Firefox is because it's overrated and people get brainwashed by the people that have it. Everytime you talk to someone they'll end up talking about Firefox...and not the other much better quality browsers, like Opera and Safari.

I think they mean the speed that the program itself runs at. Firefox is more of a resource hog than IE, and runs a little slower than IE.

I was being sarcastic, hence my link. I think Fox is the best browser but ONLY because of the plugin system. Speed and security are massively overrated on Fox.

I have tried Opera, didn't really like it. Didn't see what all the fuss was about to be honest

I use Firefox right now, but I have IE and another browser I got a few days ago is lolifox, lol it''s an anime spin-off of firefox.

Let's be honest here. There probably aren't any real men on this forum.

I've heard Opera messes with some images' Gamma. That's what happened to one of my friends when he tried it so everything looked terrible.

It depends on which computer I'm using (my main comp uses windows, my notebook uses mac) and what my purposes for using the internet at that particular time are.

On the mac, I'll usually use FF most of the time, because that's just what it came with.

On the PC, I'll normally use opera, although I never really knew why. However, if I'm on sites that are likely to put viruses/cookies/etc on my computer, then I use IE. If you actually know how to work it, IE protects better than anything I know of (basically because it integrates with the Windows OS better).

I've never heard that claim before. Why does that make it more secure? O_o

The last time I checked Secunia's security advisories, IE was behind Fx somewhat, in that its most serious problem was ranked as worse than Firefox's. But Opera didn't have any that I could find, so when it comes to security, shouldn't that (or something with a similar record) win...? ^^;

Concave - March 19, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
IE by itself can't do much more than block or allow cookies or downloads from each site. But most virus programs and whatnot work best with it.

My virusscanner will pick up anything that gets downloaded, be it through opera, firefox or ie.
You shouldn't have to rely on that.
Admittedly, it never picks up anything, because I never download or encounter suspicious material.

You're probably right, but...

For the amount of 'suspiscious' porn sites I view, and not getting any viruses... 'tis incredible, if you ask me. I don't really want to change anything that might break that.

I use Firefox because I like the "feel", and there are several nifty features I like having, such as the ability to restore a session after a crash caused the browser to close.

xD

I use Fire Fox because it has the handy spell check feature, and it doesn't crash as often as IE does... IE crashes on me if I am running too many tabs.

hilloneko - June 1, 2007 05:33 AM (GMT)
I use both, my fire fox has some freezing issues though.

NekoHennuli - April 21, 2008 08:07 AM (GMT)
Firefox, ruf. >:3
