Title: Jigoku Shoujo
Description: + Futakomori, live action series

Suigintou's Friend - November 11, 2006 04:57 AM (GMT)
I don't know what draws me to this show, other than the wonderful Noto Mamiko as the main character, Enma Ai.

For those who haven't heard of it, it's a mostly episodic series. People who seek revenge on others can access a website, Jigoku Tsushin, at midnight and ask the Jigoku Shoujo (or Hell Girl) to deliver their revenge. She and her crew of subordinates (Honeonna, Ichimoku Ren, and Wanyuudou) scout the situation and take revenge if the revenge-wisher pulls a red string on a straw doll given to them, activating the contract. Enma Ai and crew will deliver the hated person to hell, but the catch is that the one who asked for revenge will go to hell as well after they have died.

There are hints of a plot through the first season, as a journalist and his daughter enter the story and try to decipher the mystery of the Jigoku Shoujo, and it all comes to a head at the very end of season one.

The second season is more of the same so far, dealing with ethics and the extremes to which a person may be driven to effectively murder another, but there is a mysterious little nymph-looking girl that might become a nemesis for Ai and crew later on.

There's also a live action series airing just now in Japan. I viewed the first episode of it recently, and I was impressed. There were some very nice special effects.

Anyway, some screens!

I'm still half way through the first season...I do hope to finish it soon so I could start with the Futakomori...heard about the live drama, I might download the first ep of it soon....

Ippen shinde miru :king: ....arrrr :arrr:

It looks very interesting, I'll add it to my list.

I just finished Ep 13 of the first season...we get to know more and more about Ai as we continue...this is also an interseting episode too because we actually see someone who made a contract with Ai finally fulfill his end of the deal...

Styx Boatman - November 24, 2006 09:32 AM (GMT)
I just recently dowloaded Eps. 1 to 5 of Futakomori from Ayu...I won't watch them though till I'm done with the first season which is being aired in cable....I just watched Ep. 19 so 7 eps. more to be aired...ep. 20 might to be a good one with that Jigoku Shounen person. Though the series was quite boring at first, as I continued watching it became more and more interesting...the Doll-maker-mother-in-law-from-hell "repatriated" to hell this time in Ep. 19 was right in saying that Ai Enma really looks like an elegant doll  ....arrr :arrr:

Yeah, Jigoku Shoujo vs. Jigoku Shounen is a great episode.

And after that it starts delving into Enma Ai's past and Tsugumi's connection with her; that part climaxes in the penultimate episode, Jigoku Shoujo. Then the last episode Ai looks for her own revenge, and I'll leave it at that. It's a great run starting at episode 20.

Wow...Ep. 20 is indeed a great ep. We also get to see Ai forcibly cosplaying as someone like Shinku  ... the plot is now getting interesting ... can't wait for Ep. 21 on Monday....arrrr :arrr:

Ayu just released their fansub of Futakomori Ep. 6  ... go get it while its hot...arrr :arrr:

I watched the rest of Futakomori over the last couple weeks; about 15 episodes I think. It kind of followed the pattern of the first season where it suddenly developed a linear story near the end. And it was pretty crazy. I liked it.

Also, the craziest thing:

Haven't finished watching it yet...I'm watching the fansubs made by Ayu which tend to be rather released later than Shinsen...they're at episode 19 now so they're almost done with it (and I'm almost done watching the second season)...arrr :arrr:

I recently saw the first season, still downloading Futakomori.

...
...Why does no one seem more freaked out when a girl with red eyes appears mysteriously and instantly behind them in the middle of the night?

I would have to guess that because they're somewhat expecting it.

But maybe it's because Ai's just so cute.

I don't really see how they'd be expecting it. All they really know is the "Hell girl" will extract their revenge...

The cuteness makes the situation creepier, but in a good way.

I never bumped this before, but there's going to be a third season of Jigoku Shoujo airing, called Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae. Not sure of an air date, but I wonder how it's going to play out considering what happened at the end of Futakomori.

The promotional materials I've seen have Ai back, so that will take some explaining.

Tokyopop will be releasing the manga in Germany.

It's categorized as "romance". :maho:

The manga is weird; it's drawn as shoujo. It's one of those "made after the anime" manga.

Volume 2 has some awesome Enma Ai 4-koma, though.

I haven't seen the live-action one. And I doubt I ever will. Anime is anime, which means animation, therefore it should stay animated. But the manga and anime are really good. I own up to vol 4 of the manga. X)
