Title: Boosting Activity

Stormin Norman - September 29, 2006 05:47 AM (GMT)
I'm sure you all have noticed the lack of activity here lately. In part it is because of me, as I have not been posting here or advertising as much as in the past. I will get back up to speed on these things very soon. However, as much work as I may do for this forum, it is all a waste without the help of you, the members. There are a few things you can do to help out.

-Post new topics, instead of just replying to existing threads. I think there are alot more people regularly lurking this board than we may realize, but there's not enough places for them to post. It always seems (to me anyways), like I am posting most of the topics here, and though I will continue to make new ones, we can't get very far unless the all the members start posting their own topics, too. A good goal would be to post two new topics now (after your read this), and to continue posting two new topics per week. That way, there will be plenty of topics for everyone to post in.
-Advertise. Though I have been doing my best to advertise, one man can't support a forum on his own. I need the rest of you, the members, to help advertise as well. This doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to advertise everywhere possible, but try putting one of our advertising signatures that can be found here, or even a simple text link back to RMF, in your sig everywhere you go. You never know who may click the link!

Remember that every forum, no matter how popular, has its down times. The strong forums will pull through and continue to prosper as they had before. I believe that this forum is strong enough to make such a comeback, but it requires the effort of all of us. If we all work together, RMF can thrive once again and grow into a great forum as time goes on!

As a still pretty new forum, too, one of the things that helps people post more and create a bond are the "get to know you" topics, like favorite *blank* threads, survey threads, threads that discuss general things relevant to a lot of people like school or movies, and all that. So any of you thinking about making some new topics could draw some ideas from this. Be creative!

Forum games are a good way to increase activity, too, although they can quickly turn into just spam.

Basically, once everyone here feels more comfortable with each other, the friendlier everyone will get, and the more people will come here to talk about things, thus increasing activity and energizing the userbase to not only return, but bring other people in.

I personally am against the idea of forum games. There was a period of time where it was THE thing to do, but now many people view a forum with a "spam section" or "forum game section" to just be full of spam and useless talk.

I'm bumping this to make a plea for new threads. If you have an idea for a new thread, don't hesitate to put it up. It will help increase activity, which has been slipping once again, making me sad and Swiggy murderous.

I posted a lot of them over the summer, and now I'm having issues thinking of new ones. ;p
