Title: The Lords of Cerezoth - Intro and Signups

Stormin Norman - September 11, 2006 07:58 AM (GMT)
Background
For over a hundred years, Cerezoth reigned as the God over all people. He was cruel and unforgiving, unafraid to torture and kill anyone who spoke out aginst him. He would abduct and rape the women whenever he liked, and when he was hungry, he would feast upon the village children. If that was not enough, Cerezoth was also a pyromaniac, and would burn down cities just to gaze at the flames.
But finally the people had had enough. The kings got together and gathered an army, nearly one million strong, and marched to Cerezoth's castle. They demanded that Cerezoth end his cruelty, but he refused. Then the army burned down the castle, and the battle began. Cerezoth and his minions quickly took the upper hand, and it appeared that they could not be defeated. But the people had another plan in their back pocket. Using flammable oils, they used Cerezoth's own obsession against him and set him on fire. Unable to put it out, Cerezoth was left to burn to death.
However, he was not content to give up yet. In his final moments, Cerezoth transformed his body into numerous crystal orbs, called the Cerezoth Crystals. These crystals flew into the sky and scattered across the land. If they are all gathered in one place, Cerezoth can be revived. However, each of the crystals contains a portion of Cerezoth's power, and imbues that power to its bearer, so many have other uses in mind for the Cerezoth Crystals...

Character Creation
It is now five years since the fall of Cerezoth, and all of the crystals have been found. Those who possess them are named Lords for the great power they gain as a result. Your character will play one of these Lords of Cerezoth.

When creating your character, please use this template:

Name:
Title: (Lord of ____)
Age:
Gender:
Physical Description:
Bio
Weapons/Armor:
Abilites: (four maximum)
Other:

You can add more if you like, but please include at least that much.

--------------------

Name: Lance
Title: Lord of Darkness
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Lance is rather short and slender. He has shoulder length black hair, and dark brown eyes. His skin is very pale, the result of avoiding sunlight for his entire life. Under his armor, Lance always wear a black shirt and black pants. He also wears black leather gloves, black boots, and a black cape.
Bio: Lance was born with a rare disease that causes an individual to have extreme allergic reactions when exposed to sunlight. His parents were so upset at their child being a 'demon' that they left town, abandoning him. Nobody else was willing to take in the child, and he was left to fend for himself. However, when Lance was just on the verge of death, someone did come along to take him in: Cerezoth. Under his care, Lance was trained to be a cold and emotionless killer, and soon began to fit the profile quite well. At the age of eight, he was sent on his first mission: to find and kill his parents. Lance found them quickly, and as retribution for his abandonment, Lance spent several days torturing his parents before finally killing them. From that point on, Lance was Cerezoth's top ranking minion, slaughtering and pillaging at his command. Now, after Cerezoth's demise, Lance is determined to gather the crystals and bring him back.
Weapons/Armor: Lance wears black studded leather armor which covers all of his body except for the head, hands, and feet. It is rather lightweight, favoring freedom of movement over superior protection. His primary weapons are two battleaxes, both of which have two blades made of black steel and a spearhead at the end of the handle. Lance fights with both at once, and after years of training has become very skilled at it. He also carries a number of throwing knives, which are tipped with the poison from a spider.
Abilities:
Black Hole - Lance uses one of his weapons to suck up light from the surrounding area. This can take in all light indiscriminately, turning the area into a lightless abyss, or can absorb only selected beams of light for more strategic purposes.
Creatures of the Dark - Lance can summon and control a number of small animals including rats, bats, moths, spiders, centipedes, and roaches. However, all summoned creatures will die if they are exposed to sunlight.
Into the Darkness - By covering himself with his cape, Lance can disappear and instantly reappear in a new location. The less light there is in the area, the farther away that location can be.
Slash of Darkness - By swinging both of his axes in unison, Lance can create a powerful wave of dark energy, which blasts its way through anything in its path.
Other: Because of avoiding sunlight his entire life, Lance is adept at seeing in the dark. He can always see clearly, even if there is zero light around. However, his weakness to sunlight has also remained, and Lance will lose all of his abilities while exposed to sunlight, and will die if exposed for prolonged amounts of time.

I'll start the RP once I see that a few others are interested.

Ne, do crystal-given abilities need to be related to a theme, as with your darkness-based character? ^^

(I intend to create a character for this.)

Yes, they should all be related to the theme of your character's title.

Bara-bara - September 12, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
Right then, something like this should work:

Name: Elizabeth
Title: Lord(Lady?) of Metal
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Physical Description: Nondescript. Average height, average looks, the sort of thing you see in a background character.
Tends to wear strong boots and a conservative dress, with straps holding metal plates worn on top and a hooded cloak to conceal them from view.

Bio: Born as the only child to a wealthy clockmaker, she had always thought she'd one day surpass her father in the art and succeed him. This dream didn't last, though; she was displeased to learn that his actual plans were to name his apprentice heir, and for Elizabeth to marry him to bring him into the family.
She protested this betrothal to no avail, and the wedding date was set for her next birthday, but before that could come to pass a number of things happened: Firstly, she came into possession of a crystal and secretly experimented with it; secondly, her fiancé attempted to take advantage of her and she promptly broke his legs as a warning; thirdly, a day came where she returned home to find the house in disarray, with her father and their servants dead, the apprentice gone, and a message about where to hand over her crystal if she wanted him back.
She left home that day, to reach this place and avenge her father by slaying his killer.

Weapons/Armour: Main weapon is a mechanical sword with a chainsaw-like movable edge; primary defense consists of a number (limited by how much she can carry) of thick steel plates used to block attacks she perceives as and when necessary.
Also keeps various chains, blades, and spikes around to use whenever needed, as well as bringing other things when expecting danger.

Abilites:
-Shift
The ability to move metal objects by willpower. Typically employed upon the large amount of mechanical bits and pieces carried around by her, or used to run the sword.
Can apply a lot of force, but not over long ranges. Meaning, its range is limited to, say, two metres.
-Autonomy
Set a construct to operate for a short time under very simple orders (i.e. what can be 'programmed' with some improvised clockwork controller mechanism).
-Chip
Can be used to damage metal objects, such as to chip and thus weaken a weapon, or to attempt to cut usefully-shaped pieces out of scrap metal.
-Restructure
Allows metal to be modified to change its properties. Requires extreme concentration, but avoids reliance on forges to harden or soften things.

Other:
Is very reliant upon having suitable materials to use nearby; can't actually do anything if there's no metal around.
Doesn't like rain or lightning much, what with concerns over rust and electrocution.

Vic, those guns are exactly appropriate weapons, given the time period of this RP. Also, your abilities are a bit vague, could you elaborate please?

Anyways, I'm going to start this now. Vic, you can participate one you fix what I pointed out.

Vic - September 16, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
This is why i like it when ppl say what year the RP is in lol and i cant describe anything. I fixed it and did my best.

Stormin Norman - September 16, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
Alright, that's good enough, then.

Random questions probably best asked here:
In terms of technology and such, would I be right in thinking this is roughly the level of general fantasy stuff?
I.e. horses common for transport, crossbows and bows not yet replaced with firearms (gunpowder possibly not even invented yet?), no real industrial machinery as such...

Also, what sort of currency is used? ^^

Yep, the first part is right.

And for the currency, it will just be gold coins.

Age: 17
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Medium length, wild black hair. Burning crimson eyes, slightly pale and skinny. His finger tips are host to sharp claws and his mouth is home to set a canine like teeth, stands at 6'4.

Vampire bats: Summons a swarm of these bloodsucking beasts to tear apart enemy's.
Blood beast: Transforms into a large black wolf, with the same crimson eyes and fangs his human form has. The beasts is strong, fast and vicious with the sense's of an animal.

Hmm... Out of interest, are there limitations on that, or does it make him basically unkillable? ^^

I second this question. Unless there's some way to kill his soul, that sounds too powerful.

Count Alucard - October 26, 2006 10:00 AM (GMT)
I meant to edit sorry, to make it more along the lines of a way to flee one body and escape through another. If the current body he was in was destroyed then... well he's dead.

Bara-bara - October 28, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
^ That sounds reasonable to me.

Also, there are two things I was wondering about:
- Do all characters with a crystal have the ability to feel the presence of others? The answer shouldn't need to affect anything my character's done so far (since she might not know at this point what the presence of another crystal feels like), but it might be important later.

-What's required to use the power of a crystal? Presumably you'd need it with you, but is skin contact a necessity? Or does it need to be in a hand? Or is just being close enough sufficient...? ^^

All characters with a Crystal possess the ability to sense other Crystals, but whether they know how to use that ability is another story. For example, my character can sense Crystals because he knows about them; what they are, where they came from, and what they're used for. But for a character who doesn't know those things, use of the ability will have to be learned.

Just being close enough is sufficient. While a character has a Crystal in their possession, whether they're holding it in their hand, it's in their pocket, or something similar, they can use their Crystal-given abilities.

I was thinking about this in the shower, and a bunch of ideas suddenly came to me. So I think I'm going to participate. :)

Name: Kieva
Title: Lady of Stealth and Information
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Physical Description: Kieva is not of the area, to say the least. She is short (around 5'3" or 135cm) and lithe. She bears bronzed skin and large, blue-gray eyes. Her hair is red, short, and spiky. Her body is slim, though a closer look reveals muscle tone in abounds. She wears a simple black and maroon short tunic, leaving her arms and legs bare, though she wears black, fingerless gloves and worn looking black slippers.

Bio: Kieva was driven out of her village at the age of fifteen by Cerezoth. He razed her village to the ground, with her parents dying in the panicked aftermath. She had no other known family, and she could not find any acquaintances alive in the rubble days later. She took to the road, already well-versed in combat thanks to her parents' teachings and frequent run-ins with Cerezoth's minions. Along the way, she was taken in by a master of the art of stealth, and learned a great deal from him, coming to revere him like a second father. She learned how to hide, to move without being noticed, to study the surroundings and quickly discern the best places to hide and fight, and also the best routes of escape. She learned the art of wielding knives and daggers and how to use throwing weapons. She was a natural as well as helped by a great devotion to learning the art, as she had nothing else but her master.

When Kieva was nineteen, her master was bested by a warrior who gained power from some sort of crystal he wore around his neck. She had been at a nearby pond, bathing, while her master had been trapped inside a magical barrier. The warrior slaughtered him, and Kieva heard his death cry. She almost cried out in despair, but, remembering her training, she left the pond in silence, grabbed her weapons, and snuck to the battle, where the warrior of darkness was kneeling over the body of her master, looting it, unawares. From her spot on the tree branch, two knives flew, struck true, and killed the warrior instantly, one lodged in the middle of his back, one through his neck. Still naked, she looted the warrior's corpse, retrieving the crystal. Laying her master to rest, and still slightly unsettled over killing another person, she set out with her new-found powers on a quest to avenge her master, her parents, and all who have died wrongly.

Weapons/Armor: Kieva uses two daggers, both of pure, black, obsidian, magically enchanted to be unbreakable. She also has an array of throwing weapons at her disposal, including knives, shuriken, and small, sharp axes. She carries a blow-gun with both poisoned darts and tranquilizers. She wears nothing but simple leather armor under her tunic, because any more would restrict movement.

Abilites: (four maximum)

Minor invisibility: Using the crystal's power, Kieva can make her body react to her surroundings, like a chameleon, and become one with her surroundings. If using the power while moving, astute observers would notice a very small ripple effect in the scenery or ground as she moved. Anyone holding hands with Kieva will be affected by this power as well.

Telepathic connection/invasion: Kieva has the ability to telepathically connect with anyone she has in her line of sight. She can use this ability either as a two-way link to transmit information between her and her linked partner quickly, or as a one-way invasion to leech information from a person she wishes to know more about. People who experience this telepathic connection/invasion will feel a slight wave of dizziness and eyesight blurriness for a couple seconds while Kieva connects to them mentally.

Limited kinetic bond: After holding any small object and incanting a spell, which takes on average five minutes to speak, Kieva can kinetically bond with the object and use her mind to move an object in her line of sight to her or fling it in a direction of her choice. The object travels as if it were thrown hard by her. The kinetic bond breaks down after a period of about 72 hours, but may be recast after the bond breaks down. The bond will not work on items that she cannot normally lift physically.

Knife rain: Kieva can use the crystal's power to conjure magical energy in the shape of knives to rain down over an area of about forty square yards for around thirty seconds. The "knives" fall approximately two or three for every square yard. The knives do not damage rocks and are absorbed if a rock impedes the path, but they will travel straight through plant life and will do damage to animals and humans the same as regular knives would. After Kieva uses this power, she cannot use it again for two hours time, as it takes a good amount of magical energy to accomplish.

Other: Kieva is poor at spoken English, though she understands very well. She can read written English, though is not proficient. She cannot write in English. Her region of the world spoke and wrote a different language. She feels herself a vigilante, fighting her view of evil to protect her view of good. She will also do things she normally considers "wrong" or "evil" if it leads to the prosperity of good and/or defeat of evil. She has incredible dexterity and speed, though her strength is average to slightly below average. She shows much more of an affinity with women than with men, though she does not hate men. Kieva's favorite food is sweet breads, and she does not touch alcohol, fearing a mutiny of her senses when she needs them most.

Your current abilities will become stronger.

Sorry if this changes anything you may have been planning, but after some thinking, I've decided to change this. What happens when you get a new Crystal is that you can add one new sub-title to your character's current title, and you get two new abilities related to that sub-title. However, it cannot be something that conflicts with your character's current title (or subtitle, if you already had multiple Crystals). So, for example, since my character is the Lord of Darkness, I couldn't give him a subtitle Lord of Light, because darkness and light are opposites. I could, however, give him the subtitle Lord of Fire, and then he'd gain two fire-related abilities.

Hopefully that's clear. :sweatdrop:

Stormin Norman - November 12, 2006 08:18 AM (GMT)
Here's some information about Jackal (and more specifically, his abilities) that I thought I should add:

-He can create illusions of himself. They cannot interact with objects in the real world, so if you try to attack them, it will go right through and the illusion will disappear. There's no exact limit to how many he can created; he is only limited to how many he can control at once. When they are all moving in unison, this is about 20-22, but if they are moving in different directions, Jackal can't effectively control more than 6-7.
-He can swap his body between illusions he has created. For example, say there are two Jackals; Jackals A which is the real one, and Jackal B which is an illusion. If someone attacks Jackal A, he can perform a swap. Jackal A will become the illusion, and Jackal B will become the real one. Then the attacker will swing at the illusion, hit nothing but air, and Jackal can attack from behind. Something like that.

You may not need to know this, but it could help you portray Jackal's abilities properly, should you decide to have him interact with one of your characters.

Ah, so we can use him too, then. But wouldn't we also need to know what sorts of things he'll be doing or generally what he's trying to achieve so we wouldn't inadvertently make him do something he wouldn't?

Also, I've been wondering what to do about the person who Elizabeth is travelling to meet. I have a clear enough idea about what I'd like to do with them that I could make a profile and use them as an antagonist similarly to how you've been using Jackal? They'd need a crystal to stand a decent chance at lasting any time in combat, and there are certain aspects of this idea I'd rather have revealed in-RP rather than just by reading the profile...

Well, Jackal's main goal is the same as my character's: gather all of the Crystals. Exactly why he wants them is something I plan to reveal later, but he is prepared to go to any lengths to get them. So it's certainly not unreasonable that he would go after someone other than Lance, if he felt their Crystal would be easier to capture.
And his methods are basically what you've already seen: using his abilities to perform tricks and trap his enemies.

As for the character(s) you're considering, yes, you can give them a Crystal if you like. And you don't have to post a complete profile, either. I didn't really do that for Jackal, either; I just cleared up his abilities. There's still many things about him I plan to reveal as the RP progresses.

I'm posting here and adding to Kieva's profile a character single. It's meant to give you somewhat of a feel, through music, of Kieva and her homeland. I figured it'd be a neat idea to add.

I like it. ^^

I wonder what I'd put on an Elizabeth character single, though? I sortof associate "Aitakute" by Gotou Saori with her (from what I remember being playing while composing her posts), and it kinda fits in a strange way (since the title means something like "wanting to meet"). I suspect there are better choices out there somewhere, however...

Edit+bump: I think now's an appropriate time to add this profile, though there'll be a fair amount omitted until it's discovered or needs to be known in-story. ^^

Name: Arthur
Title: Lord of ?
Age: Somewhere between late twenties and early thirties.
Gender: Male
Physical Description: He's quite a tall and burly man, with blonde hair, green eyes, and fairly good looks. At his introduction, though, he's wearing a layer of leather armour as well as a leather mask (which offers reasonable protection to his face). Over these, there is a layer of pieces of ragged cloth of the colours in a forest, which potentially acts as basic camouflage.

Overall, this makes it hard to tell much about him, except for general things like size and build.

Bio: ?

Weapons/Armor:
He keeps with him a flint knife and a high-quality compound bow with plenty of arrows, and also has a wooden quarterstaff among the possessions that stay with his horse.
Armour consists of boiled leather, with standard leather covering some other areas. The end effect is fairly decent protection on average, though probably not good enough to actually help him much. =P

Abilites:
-?
Seems to allow him to say "Find:<name or description>" to find where a person is, with some restrictions.
-?
-?
-?
Linked to his horse somehow, in all likelihood. The thing's fairly obviously unnatural.

Other:
-He has a number of the skills a poacher would, including high accuracy with his bow, tracking, and stealth.
-Phlegethon: This is a black horse with eye sockets filled with flames, which is also rather intelligent and extremely fast, even when carrying things.
-If Kieva reads his mind, it might be easiest if I detail what info she gets from him?

Hmmm... good idea. I should probably do the same for Jackal and Nero. I've already described some of Jackal's abilities, but there's more that we know already.

----------

Name: Jackal
Title: Lord of Illusions
Age: Appears to be in his twenties
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Jackal has short, light brown hair and dark skin. His complexion would suggest that he is not from the region where the RP is taking place, though where exactly he is from is not known. Jackal wears rather nondescript clothing; nothing that would make him stand out in a crowd.
Bio: Jackal was formerly a minion of Cerezoth, and is now searching to gather the Crystals for some purpose of his own. Nothing else is known.
Weapons/Armor: Jackal carries a short sword as his only weapon. He also does not wear any armor, as his evasive abilities leave little need for it.
Abilities:
Shadow Summon - Jackal can create illusions of himself. They cannot interact with anything in the real world, and will disappear if they are touched. The only limit to how many he can create is how many he can control; about 20-22 if they are moving in unison, or 6-7 if they are not.
Shadow Swap - Jackal can swap back and forth between his real self and illusions of himself he has created.

----------

Name: Nero
Title: Lord of the Wolves
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Nero is of about average height and size for his age. He has long, blonde hair and blue eyes. His clothing, made largely from furs and animal skins, would indicate that Nero is not from the region where the RP is taking place.
Bio: When he was a young boy, Nero’s parents were killed by a mysterious assassin. He is now searching to find this person. Nothing else is known.
Weapons/Armor: As his only weapon, Nero carries a dagger, but he hardly ever uses it. The only protection he has is some of his thick animal skin clothing, but other than that, Nero wears no armor.
Abilities:
Canine Senses - Nero has the sharp senses of a wolf, especially smell and hearing.
Leader of the Pack - With his wolf-like howl, Nero can call wild wolves to him.

So, is anyone else interested in keeping this RP alive, or is it just gonna die now?

I'd been meaning to resurrect it long enough for at least a few in-RP events to take place, since it'd be possible to tie up Elizabeth's major subplot relatively quickly; I'd prefer some sort of vaguely-dramatic ending to leaving things as they are, and resolving that issue should do for one...
Beyond that would depend on how much interest from others there is in continuing, I suppose. ^^;

Sorry guys; I've been dragging my feet on this one. I kind of lost motivation over time (which was funny because when I joined, I couldn't wait for people to post something). Overtime and sick people haven't really given me much free time lately, but I do want to continue.

Yeah, I know how it can be with losing motivation. That happens to me, too.

Though it's good to see some interest still. We'll continue whenever you two can find the time, then.

I re-read LoC recently, since Swiggy's Friend mentioned thoughts of getting it started again. You still up for it, Norm? ^^

(Also, should this be considered still 'open' in the sense of accepting new players? I expect so, but it's good to be clear about that sort of thing...)
