Title: Anime Addiction
Delight - March 4, 2009 12:29 AM (GMT)
So, I have a problem. I think I'm an animeholic. When I start watching good anime series, I can't stop. I usually watch like a complete maniac - I start watching about 5-12 episodes a day. Also, I feel that I'm beginning to lose personality. When I stop watching I feel horribly lonely and out of place and I'm absorbing some fragments of character's personality. That's weird  .
I need to watch more...
I need to watch more...
I need to watch more! Aaaarrgh!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA  !!!!!!!!!!!
Is it normal  ?

This comes from someone who might also be considered an animeholic, but still:
The feelings when you stop watching are probably just a relative crash from returning to reality out of the awesomefantasyamazingness of whatever anime world you've previously been engrossed in for the past 2-5 hours.
As for taking on aspects of their personality, if its the only media you're exposed to for an extended period of time, of course you're going to adapt similarities to it- in the same way that one can pick up an accent from being around people who speak that way.
On a semi-related note, I'm wondering if the anime I've watched hasn't affected my expectations and ideals. I realize the real world sucks completely in comparison to the idyll of fiction and anime, but it sucks so terribly I end up just resenting the people and environments that are sub-par compared to anime. Which is, to say- all of them.
But I wonder if this is influenced by anime really, or if it's just my personality? >.>

Well, the weirdest thing is that I usually watch anime that is rather dark - more like like watching a train crash than idyll (Neon Genesis Evangellion, Welcome to the NHK, Rozen Maiden and Death Note are rather depressing). I know that horrible thing will happen, but I can't stop watching it. Sometimes I have an impression, that I'm gobbling the episodes up so fast so that it would end as soon as possible.
Curiously, happy and idyllic anime usually puts me off.

Idyll :omfsm: ?

Metaphorically speaking. I also appreciate the darker stuff. <3

I've had spurts like that. The only reason it doesn't happen to me more often is because I don't normally have the attention span to watch a bunch of anime episodes in a row.

Well, I wouldn't say that the world sucks completely, but it's certainly rotten to the core. It's not just from the anime perspective. A lot of things that happen in the world are against common morality and a lot of bad things are a result of that. The difference is that this world doesn't have its heroes that would magically save the day for us.

I think of it even more simplistically:
Anime is drawn gorgeously- sleek and amazing in elegance. Contrast reality, which is detailed, and full, down to the last ugly and decrepit squirming molecule and bacterium.
And so why can't reality exist so beautifully? Why did the laws of physics have to be written to include things like necessary excretion- and that animals would be so hostile to another? That the biggest interest and instinct in most being is just to get laid? That society would conform everyone to be so normal and bland- compared to the dynamic, lively, and amazing characters of fiction?

Euphorian seems to have taken what I wanted to say and make it more awesome-sounding than I could have. ._.;
But yeah. I get in anime-obsession spurts like that every once in a while, but it usually lasts for only a few days.

Oh, so it's a problem with the aesthetic part of the world XD .
I think I'd go insane if the world would look like anime XD . Especially if people would look like anime characters (The horror... The horror XD !!!)...
I rather like the RL graphics (because of the tons of details) and I watch anime and read manga mostly because of the interesting scenarios and characters - I prefer european-style comics when it comes to graphics.

If I could, I'd watch anime all day, but sadly my attention span seems to think otherwise.
