Title: Next Contest?
Description: what sounds good?

Suigintou's Friend - June 3, 2008 07:12 AM (GMT)
So what kind of contest would you take part in? Vote for any in this poll that you'd be a part of so our next contest can also be a success.

Recruiting Contest
This would require you to recruit new people to RMF. New posters would post in the contest thread and say who got them to sign up. New posters would also have to stick around for a certain amount of time and post a certain amount to count as part of the contest.

Guess the Word Filter Contest
This was fun last time. A couple staff members would choose a couple words each to filter, like last time I chose Suigintou -> Swiggy. Whoever guessed the word filters and the person that requested each one would win.

Advertising Signature Contest
Kind of like a fanart contest, but the creations would be advertising signatures for Rosa Mystica forums that could be used elsewhere to get people to join us.

Please, if you have a good idea, put it here for us to consider!

Recruiting Contest = too many opportunities for spamming and n00bs

Guess the Word Filter Contest = might be fun!

Advertising Signature Contest = hmmm, maybe. Some other forums don't take nicely to advertising for different forums.

Maybe a caption contest for a batch of screencaps? :> Funniest caption wins? That sounds fun!

I like this one. Captions are always fun!

We had a fanart contest... how about a fanFIC contest? Everyone could write a one-shot fanfic of a certain length. I think that'd be fun.

Haha. Yes. One-shots and stuff are fun.

A one-shot contest could be cool.

I was thinking something similar, in that it'd be nice to test writing skills and not just drawing skills.
I would personally prefer a general writing contest to a fanfic-writing one, though. Or if we have to have a theme, make it something like "pick a premise from here and write an episode". Because either option sounds more interesting to me than RM-fanfic-writing, though admittedly, I have a very low interest in fanworks in general... =P

Oh, and the wordfilter contest was fun. The final matching filters to people stage pretty much turned into a brute-force search through permutations, though, so it'd be nice to modify that slightly to make it more interesting - like by giving feedback on how many guesses were correct, or something? ^^

That's an excellent idea. ^^
I'm in! Let's vote for Fan Fic contest.

To tell the truth, I'm not that interested in reading normal original works unless it's novels or something. I'd rather do a RM fanfic contest, but maybe that's just me ^^;

Nah, I am guessing more people would be with you than me, considering this is an RM forum, and we do have fanfic writers here. =P

My reasoning factors in some other things, though:
- We are not only a RM forum. With the third RM fanart contest just over, I'd like some non-RM-specific contests to make sure not to exclude the people whose passion for RM no longer burns as bright as it might have in the start.* Or those who haven't really seen all of it or whatever (I remember we had some, though I dunno if they're among the regulars).
- For those who are still very into RM, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to submit a fanfic.** Not liking original stuff thus wouldn't matter unless you signed up to be a judge - you wouldn't have to read it, after all.

* A careful look at my postings in our RM forum would reveal I'm one of them. This is kinda to be expected, given I first met it three years ago, and have had rather a long time to explore and discuss its world. One thing I've noticed about forums based around one series is that discussion of said series tends to drop off after a while, until the only posts in its section are by people new to the series and the forum - the others seem to tend to undergo some form of burnout or something, where the affection usually remains but interest dwindles...
** Well, besides unavoidable RM/non-RM bias, that is. If we can find the judges, though, we could always do both as separate categories.

Last time Norm tried to do an Rozen Maiden fanfic contest, he didn't get any entries, so I think if there was going to be a writing contest, I'd prefer a general one. I like Bara-bara's anime series generator episode idea. XD

But I'd also prefer something that everyone can participate in, too. A lot of our members don't use English as their first language, so a writing contest might only have a few entries.

I like the discussion here so far. Keep it up! I might run a word filter contest while we decide what else will work, because it could end up being short anyway or run concurrently with another contest. I also edited the poll to add people's ideas, so everyone can re-vote.

I think I'm leaning towards the caption contest myself. Though, the world filter contest was pretty fun the last time we had it.

If we do end up doing the anime series generator thing, I call shotgun on Gender Miner.

Yay, another vote for caption contest >:D I love caption contests ^^

And on a slightly off-topic note, I think I grow to love a fandom the longer I stay in it. XD Some four or five years later, I'm still writing and drawing for Di Gi Charat, and even though I actually finished watching Rozen Maiden a long time ago, I still rewatch it all the time and I am growing to like it even more ^^ It's a bummer that so many people here are falling out of the fandom... orz

Anyway, my reasoning was just that, it's a RM forum, and therefore we are supposed to spread RM love, but I see what you mean.

I'm lovin' the anime generator idea. That has the potential to be hilarious.

That, or the caption contest.

AKC - June 9, 2008 04:19 PM (GMT)
Maybe we should do both :'D I'd be happy to run the caption contest if it was too much!
