The latest band from Transcend Records modern metal roster hits the streets with a 5 track EP and I must say compared to the previous bands I've heard, Cinders Fall come up trumps on this offering. This very young looking bunch deliver modern thrashy melodic death metal par-excellence. The closest port of call that I heard, is the mighty Dark Tranquility. Now there's some praise for you indeed!
These chaps thankfully refrain from going the metalcore route more or less completely. The screamed vocals are very respectable and not painful on the ears in any way shape or form and come quite close to resembling the legendary Mr. Stanne of DT no less. The music reminds me very much of The Mind's I era of DT and since that is one of my favourite melodic death albums of all time, I am a happy camper listening to Cinders Fall.
What lifts the band above many others is their ability to pen memorable hooky thrashy riffs that bounce along with jolly abandon without wanting to bludgeon you with over heaviness or anything like that. They caress your ears with their crisp melodic metal and allow their songs to breathe and gradually reveal their labyrinthine riffs to delve deep into your subconscious. Of the five tracks on offer it's really hard to pick a stand out as each of them is blessed with magical parts galore. Personally I really liked the track Inside which has great tempo changes and riffs to loosen your fillings old and new. The title track is also one of those songs which has quite a melodic and morose feel interspersed with infectious, galloping riffing to die for.
This really is a great start for this band and bodes well for a full length sometime in the future. This band is a must for any fan of Gothenburger Melodic Death metal, You'll love them, trust me!
