A Dark Desire



I have a tremendous admiration for the genuinely eccentric. Be it Ritchie Blackmore, Mortiis or Owen Knight, people who view the world through alternate lenses are always welcome round my way. Not my actual way, you understand. Goodness knows, I don't want a queue of freaks at the door. But musically, yes please. Please note, though, that a genuine eccentric has no conception of his own eccentricity. Mimes will be shot first and warned second.

Which brings us, eventually, to the orchestrated, gothic sounds of Vampyrouus, five gentlemen who spend their time devising soundtracks to imaginary thirties Slovakian horror pictures, narrated by a moonlighting demon from the pits of Hell.

"A Dark Desire" tells tales of witch hunts, vampirism, lust and revenge, told through the eyes of an aristocrat who signs a pact with the devil. So far, so Faust. But more imagination has gone into this than on a hunnerd generic goth metal albums, and it's an experience that gets more gosh darned wyrd with every play.

Just don't switch the lights off, or open the window to see what the scratching is...
