GEFF
Land Of The FreeMetal Heaven 2009
That's a really crap name for a band. GEFF. Really. Luckily, for me, however, there was a picture of Goran Edman on the sleeve. Usually a sign of quality, the one time Brazen Abbot and Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist is enough of a draw to get me flipping open the CD player.
The project began as a set of songs by unknown guitarist Ralf Jedestedt who was looking to record a few tunes in the studio of bassist Per Stadin. A few phone calls later and Bob is your proverbial uncle. Now I'm not going to tell you that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread, because it's a bit of a mixed bag. However, there are some really good songs here.
Opener 'Xboy' is a bit of a red herring, a fairly generic melodic metal tune, but once 'Fruits Of Life' arrives, along with some eighties rock and blues influences, then it's time for the show to begin. The album does jump around a bit, and the likes of 'Living Generation' are skippable. However, tune into songs like the title track, 'Fool's Paradise' and 'Innovations', and you'll find yourself glad you took the time.
