GLITTERTIND
LandkjenningNapalm 2009
Glittertind was founded in 2001 by Torbjørn Sandvik. Inspired by old Norwegian history and culture he made a sound blending folk, metal and punk.
I didn't know how to take this band as from the outset they seemed like a gentle version of Tyr but when you listen a bit closer they have their own unique sound - not to my taste but hey 'would be a boring world if we all liked the same bands' To me it appears that they cannot make their mind up what sort of sound they want to portray from the haunting Nordic folk to the almost pirate theme used by other bands.
The first track 'Landkjenning' seems to be straight out of the Tyr catalogue, to me a very good song and a good start to the album. Unfortunetly from there it went down hill. 'Nordafjells' skipped roughly from one genre to another without stamping their obvious talents on it. 'Går Min Eigen Veg' is another very good Nordic folk song along with a hint of panpipes sneaking in during the chorus but it works.
Well then we then get to 'Longships and Mead' and mmmm well - I think this has been done before lads - but better! 'Verder In Brann' brings them back to winning ways with a light shanty best served cold, it works though. The rest of the album is very much in the same vain with happy drunken on-the-table folk metal much enjoyed by a lot of people out there.
Musically they are very professional and give out a good sound, I don't want to do them a disservice as I am sure this album will undoubtedly capture the hearts of Folk Metal fans worldwide!
