BLEED FROM WITHIN
HumanityRising 2009
I guess living in Scotland can drive a man to distraction and hence you end up having to form bands like Bleed From Within to release the pent up anger. However I jest as you may have guessed as angry music is not just the pre-condition of the jocks as these type of bands are ten-a-penny these days. Still BfW do hail from north of the border and they are youngsters on a mission. That mission should they choose to accept it...is to be the UK's answer to The Black Dahlia Murder for that is the band that they most intimately resemble.
Yes folks this is melodic deathcore and it makes no apologies about it either. It seems this type of music is pretty much the young metalhead's aural poison in this day and age. If you have read my previous reviews of this brand of youth orientated metal you will know that it's not really my cuppa at all. However I do like melodic death a good deal but I hate screaming and ranting core vocals and I also hate breakdowns with a passion. BfW of course incorporate all of these aspects to a certain degree and hence I am left in no man's land with this cd.
I enjoy the fast melodic riffing that is prevalent throughout the album which has a good technical level with a nice production courtesy of Karl Groom of Threshold. This affords the band good balance and power between the instruments. No complaints on that count. The main problem as already stated is the constant break up of flow with the breakdowns and also the over the top screaming which after an album's length really starts to grate.
However I must try to be positive to these chappies in case they salute me with a Glesgae Kiss! This album is solid and will please any youngster who's into their melodic deathcore. There are mean and lean melodic death thrashing riffs to enjoy with a cool technical edge which should be applauded. In the end the aspects which annoy, will hinder me in my enthusiasm for this one. The band definitely has their place in today's musical climate but I guess this CD is not aimed at the likes of me. My score reflects my personal opinion however a young whipper snapper will likely go apeshit over this one.
