Title: Mana Randezvous event!

Hello everyone~
Sorry its been so long...I've been really busy. :(
I have been asked quite a few times to write a review on the Mana Randezvous event I went to yesterday at the Shinjuku Christon Cafe, so here it is!!
The time on my ticket said I should get to the Shinjuku Christon Cafe at 10:30 AM to line up. I got there about 10 minutes early, so I had to stand around until 11:00 when we were all let into the cafe. Once we got in, some ushers would look at our ticket numbers and direct us to the portion of the restaurant we needed to sit in -- we each had our own places in the restaurant with our number at the seat we were supposed to sit at, and mine was right in front at a big staircase where Mana would eventually come out to greet everyone.
Around 11:30, an announcer came to the front and told us the event was ready to start. He then proceeded to announce Mana at the event. Suddenly Moi dix Mois music played at the cafe really loud, and Mana came walking down the stairs and stood in the center front. He took a bow to everyone, and then the MC read out a message Mana had written everyone. After that, we all had to stand up and make a toast with Mana for today's event. Mana then went back upstairs to prepare himself for the event, and the first person was called up to go.
He looked so small up close. Two years ago, I really don't remember him being so small, but at the same time he still looks healthy. He was wearing a white Moitie blouse, with black pants and a long black EGA skirt over it along with a new pair of platforms that are huge and lace up in the front.
I waited probably a little less than half an hour before one of the staff came up to me and told me it was my turn to go. I walked up the stairs to a really small area with about 4 chairs and a big black curtain. I had to sit at the waiting chair for the other 3 to go before me. Each time the curtain was opened for the next person I kept seeing Mana standing right behind the curtain so I kept sort of sneaking peaks at him every chance I got. Each time he was only just standing there waiting. Also, in the mean time we got to reach into a bucket of papers to see if we would win a photo with Mana, but I didn't end up winning. :(
Anyway, it was finally my turn, so I got up and the curtain was opened by one of the staff. Mana, just like every other time, was standing right behind the curtain. I had to walk up a couple steps to him, and when I got close enough he crossed one of his hands over his chest and bowed to me. I ended up smiling at him as he did because it was really cute, and then he came straight up to me and made a gesture for me to put both of my arms out. I knew he wanted me to put my arms out to hold my hand...but both of them?! I was a little confused by that. I sort of stood there and stared at him for a second in confusion, so he tried showing me again. I still didn't quite understand the concept of putting both of your arms out, so I just put both arms out really unsure of what to do, and he finally just grabbed my arms. He wrapped his closest arm to my furthest then held both of my hands. His grip was REALLY tight too! There was no getting away from him. LOL
Right after he had grabbed my hands and we started walking I sort of laughed to myself a little bit thinking about how I failed at trying to figure out how he wanted to hold hands, and then he ended up looking over at me smiling a little and then I heard him make a noise. I think he was laughing too but he was trying SO hard not to. XDDDDDDDD
One thing about Mana was that he seemed very happy today. You know, sometimes with things like this, I tend to take into consideration that doing this is just a piece of his job. Fans pay for a service, so he must provide...acting happy about it is something that has to go along with being a performer, but in all honesty, he seemed very genuinely happy and excited around me. When he kept trying to look at me, he had a very pleasant look about him...just that...he was really really happy.
After a while that we sort of grew silent and just kept walking a little ways until we reached about 3 steps we had to go up. Even though we didn't even say a word towards each other, we interacted together A LOT. Although there was some misunderstanding, because honestly I'm just not that great at interpreting things all the time, I really do feel like we communicated with one another...it was as if words really weren't needed, that we were just happy enough in each other's company. There was a point where it felt like he did want to say something to me, but then it was let go in silence...which like I say, is perfectly alright.
At that point, Mana brought me to a small round table that was filled with boxes. Before we went to the boxes though, he took my arms and brought them around his waist. He then hugged me for a REALLY long time. I honestly believe it was probably for about one minute or so -- it was a very long hug LOL.
The nice thing about his hug though, was that it didn't feel like how it does when you go to events such as anime conventions and see jrockers and ask them for hugs. Usually at those times, it always seems like the band members are very uncomfortable and they don't know how to react so they give you a sort of awkward half hug...It really wasn't like that with Mana, he just went full force on me. He was very genuine about it.
After that, when he finally let go I had sort of dropped my hands, but that was a no go for Mana. He took my hand right back up to him and then took a little black box from the table. He held it to himself for a moment which sort of confused me. He was holding it for a while, so I didn't really understand if he wanted me to take it or if he wanted to give it to me. I sort of tried to move my hand to get it, but he just made his grip tighter to him and eventually placed it in my hand.
He then sort of half way bowed at me, but more so he got up in my face and smiled straight at me!!! It was SOOOO cute! That was probably my most favorite moment of the entire time. It was certainly the most memorable. He was so close I could see his little fake eyelashes really well and I couldn't stop staring at them. XD
Once he finished with that, he finally took my hands again, but put one arm around my waist, walked a few steps and then stopped. Once again he sort of confused me with this...it took a minute to register he wanted me to walk down the stairs first but he was so far back from the steps it didn't make a ton of sense to me for a little bit. XD So I started walking down and he just clung to me the whole time when I was trying to walk. Honestly, that part was a little bit scary...even though I don't mind Mana touching me and such, I don't usually like people hanging onto me when I'm trying to walk down stairs in my big Mana platforms. It just puts more weight on me and only creates more room for me to fall. In fact, I really did think I was going to fall for a minute, but he had a tight grip and I got down alright.
Finally it was time to say goodbye. we got down to the bottom of the steps, I was let go on my own. Then Mana waved to me and I went back into the cafe area to be bored once agai
I guess some people wonder about this because I'm always getting this question a lot -- what did Mana smell like? Personally, I think Mana uses a different perfume every time. I've heard a lot about how he smells sweet or fruity in the past, but today he smelled kind of spicy.
Anyway, after that I ran around with Kanna and had dinner with a few of the other Mana fans. They were all really interested in me, so they kept asking me tons of questions all night long. haha
All in all, it was a very nice day and I wish I could go see Mana again like that all the time. ;_;

This is the second source I have gotten concerning these rendezvous events, and the second time Mana really comes off as a genuine person.
Backs up my whole view he truly appreciates his fans. I think many celebs would have shown indignation or irritance with someone not understanding their little signals. Not Mana, he seemed to show genuine love and tenderness toward someone who for the most part was a total and complete stranger.
And that hug, wow.
Very impressive sounding.
When you say he was small, do you mean as in height, or just overall?
Oh, and the Mystery smiled at you, actually full on smiled.
Take that all you twits that he is not human!!! (referring to this nit that saying such on You tube on a video where Mana does one heck of a job stifling a smile)

umm as for small, I meant that he has a very small body frame. To me he is tall, but you have to remember I'm 5'1'' and we were both wearing platforms the same height so he was STILL several inches taller than me. XDD
It was certainly an occasion I will NEVER forget and I'm really happy I did it. I got to see Mana as a person, rather than Mana as a performer, and that in itself I felt was a very special gift.

It was really exciting to read about this event. You kind of just described one of my biggest dreams of all time, and it's always fun to read about Mana's behavior when he is among his fans. To actually hug Mana, which is on my "to-do-before-I-die list"... Though I think my head would explode if we got that close to each other. Exactly how often are these kind of events arranged?
I would love to attend to one, even though it is out of the question. Mana has probably started to use a walker before I am old enough and have enough money to go to his events.
Anyways, I'm really happy for you. :)

They're usually held once a year. I believe in the past years they had always been in November, so I'm not exactly sure why the change to October -- maybe it was because Mana liked the date it would be on (October 11, 2009, or in Japanese 09/10/11). What you have to do though is buy a Moi-meme-Moitie item for 21,000 yen or more on a particular date they announce and then you get a ticket with the date and time of the event.
Its something I've been waiting to do for several years myself so I was extremely happy to do this!! It was such an amazing chance, and I hope to do it for many years to come now! *_* I honestly don't believe any Mana event abroad can quite match up to this because its sooo intimate and personal. I hope you can come to the event one day for yourself! Never give up hope, because you never know, you may get to do something like this sooner than you think. 6 years ago I never would have believed I would get to encounter Mana in such a way. ;D

When you think about it, it seems kinda weird that it was that intimate.
Personally, I don't think I'd be that comfortable with it. Ok I know its Mana, but he's still technically a stranger...

When they asked me how long I was with him, they all were very surprised and said they only got maybe a minute with him!!! I know I was with him for much more than one minute though, so its kind of weird that he doesn't divide up the time evenly. XD

No, pictures with Mana, as always, were not allowed...but if you mean other pictures (such as the things I got, fliers, a few shots of the cafe, etc) I DO have those. XD

I talked to a japanese friend on Pupe (*seila*) and she said exactly the same thing as you did ! That he walked, stoped to the table, took her hands to his waist and hugged her, and he smiled at her giving the box...:) She also said she saw you :)
And for the time being with him, maybe it's just illusion ? Maybe it's kind of the same time, and you just FEEL it going by really fast or you feel it lasted forever... Maybe it's this :)

Wow! If it is. If not, it is still nice.
That little card really illustrates the miracle that MMM is. For a relatively tiny clothing label to survive for 10 years is quite a feat.

Were there guys at the event by chance, just in case I ever get lucky enough to be in Japan for one of these events, and not feel weird:)

Yes, I saw some guys there!
There was even a man who went who looked to be in his 40s or so...even he was wearing Moitie! (but really just a very simple EGA blouse and pants).
I remember reading Mana's aesthetics quite a few years ago and he had mentioned that it doesn't really matter to him either way, but sometimes the guys who go to the event feel a little bit uncomfortable with the intimacy, so I believe guys actually get a choice to just shake hands with him (and maybe he does other alternative things instead). XD

XDDDDD Its hard to explain, but there are some perfumes out there that have sort of a "spice" smell to them that kinda tickles your nose a little bit when you smell it...thats how he smelled to me at least. If you want to know something even more strange, his face smells different from his body....if that makes sense. XDDDDD LOL God that sounds so bizarre, but its true. Funny thing is though, after I left I could smell his perfume all over me. XDD
