Title: vegetarianism
iSynth - August 25, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
I've always thought orgs like peta and vegetarians were full of BS. but i watched this whole video and now i'm not sure. I still don't know how I feel about meat. i'm torn because i think its a natural resource, but after watching this it makes me wonder: does the meat industry really need to be so brutal? i want to know what you guys think, because recently i've been thinking about beocming vegeratian or at least being more selective about where i buy my meat...
here is the video i saw. it's from peta. it's very graphic so if you don't want to feel sad, don't watch it.
so please, share your insight: is this true, or is it just peta trying to recruit more vegans?

I have see it... i know its true... but i just cant be a vegetarian... cant handle the pressure....
xit - August 25, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
Oh, that old movie. Seen it before...
Apart from that I hate animal cruelty, but I still eat meat.
And I don't intend to stop eating meat.

GO VEGETARIAN!!!!
vegetarians live longer, it's very healthy, and who would want a dead corpse on a
dinner plate anyway?! i'm vegetarian too. i think that some day, no animals will be killed for food. treating animals like "products", keeping them in factory-farms,
using and exploiting them is unnatural! think about it. you don't need to do or
instruct harm to get tasty food! inform yourself. many top-athletes are vegetarians too! it's actually been proven that NOT eating meat lessens your chances of getting
cancers, and it's deffinetly proven that not eating RED meat causes better health!
this video is just a message to help spread some humanity, and to quit torturing
the animals! ( of course is not fake!!!! )
and remember....
"IN SILENCE THEY SUFFER, IN LONELINESS THEY DIE!"
( sorry for my bad english! )

Being of European background and my favorite pastime being loitering in delikatessenans, I practicaly bathe in meat. (creepy thought) If I were you isynth, I would maybe try flexitarianism--it means you usualy stray away from red meat and partake in eating white meat.
If that is too hard for you, then I wouldn't leap too far from meat.

I'm not a vegetarian but I think that we are starting to consume more meat than we should!
I don't eat much meat
because I think meat is overused in foods
Yesterday I had my first chicken in about three months or so...
I love the vegetarian diet though very much so!
:heartbeat:
Maddy-chan - August 26, 2008 09:00 AM (GMT)
we SHOULD consume less meat... my option....
and animal related products...
and grow our own veggies :D (lol i do that)
I cant live without meat because my body will function unpropely
.....
OT:
I do not support burgers and stuff like that - ruins your life... if you don't have a craving for a burger.... even if you have DON'T EAT IT... it contains addictive components.....

my thought on it all is that i don't have so much a problem eating meat. like i said, it's part of life.. people have been doing it for generations and your body is designed to eat it and requires it and... yeah. but i tihnk the way they kill the animals is so cruel! like, i don't have a prob with them being killed just... why do they have to be so mean? can't they be civilized about it??
btw- whats white meat?
Maddy-chan - August 26, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
Idk... i THink its like a lighter colored meat like chicken and so on....

From Wiki:
"White meat refers to any lighter-colored meat, often contrasted with red meat. White meat or light meat also refers to the lighter-colored meat of poultry as contrasted with "dark meat"."
I didn't watch the video but organizations such as peta are renown for showing worst case scenarios.
Personally I agree with Maddy-chan, we do eat more meat than our bodies probably require but I'll never give it up.
Along with enjoying meat, I'm Anemic and tend to find that meat is the best source of Iron. (I never take medicines unless I can avoid it)

U NEED MOAR BROCCOLI!!!!
I just got a thought here relative to the subject of vegetarianism.
For vegetarians (sp?) & vegans unless they grow they're own vegetables & fruit, without the use of pesticide, aren't animals killed anyway?
To elaborate, when crops are grown quite often pesticide is sprayed which kills off the insects and small animals that eat these crops.
Alternatively, organic farmers who do not use pesticide kill these small animals and destroy there homes that eat there crops with combine harvesters.
Well all know how fond farmers of animals which eat there crops, such animals get shot on sight.
I'm pushing it a little here but after all that when the goods are being transported. Small animals are reknown for getting ran over en route.
I thought it was a point worth mentioning.
porcelainmaiden - August 26, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
I think it is good to have a balanced diet. It has been said that too much red meat can be a little bad for your digestive tract.
I do like to eat salads often to wean off of meat, but it just doesn't help when I put meat on my salad!
lips_blood_red - August 29, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
of curse that vid is true, i don't even need to watch it cause i already know lots of that shit, and i don't think peta has any selfish interest in turn the whole human breed into vegetarian, they don't really win anything with that, on the contrary, the private companies wins lots of money with the consumption of meat so they see animals only like products not like an alive being that has sense like humans, they see them just like something that would give them more money (fckd up selfish capitalist) so in a capitalist sistem, make money will make you better than others so it doesn't matter if you shed innocent animal blood in a cruelty way if that will gives you money (or fun in the bullfighting case) cause most of the people think animals are inferior to human breed and that racist way of think leaves humans to feel they/we have the right to decide over the life or feelings or another race...
so if you turn yrself into vegetarian that would be really GREAT!!!! if don't, anything it would be great cause yr not staying cross hands and yr making something to stop the massacre. If you think turn into vegetarianism is too much hard for you, then start doing something easier like try to eat it the less, or being careful with yr meat and animal products consumption.
also, vegetarian diet is really great, yr feeling good not only because you know an animal hasn't suffer to feed you, you lose weight and you don't even notice until yr clothes start to being big for you!!! you'll lose weight and size and in a nice way, you'll start feeling better with yourself.

It can be said that going veg. can help you feel lighter and more energetic, but for many of us, meat holds significance in our cultures. It has been a part of many of our ancestors past, and is a vital source of protein.
I am a very small girl, though a bit busty, and I have been eating meat my whole life.
vampixie - September 18, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
i dont eat meat but only because the idea of eating something dead body creeps me out. im sure peta makes things out to be worse than they really are though. there is bad practice that goes on in every industry but there is good as well. if the way your food is treated bothers you but you still want to eat meat just get free range stuff. it costs more but at least you will know its had a better life.
~HatrednRevenge~ - November 26, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
Well I am a meat lover. But I think being vegetarian is also a good thing as long as you get all your nutrition the right portion . Well, my grandma practices vegetarian for half a day during the Goddess of Mercy's birthday.I don't think I can live a day without eating meat.
(s)AINT - December 6, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
Well, my belief in the whole vegetarianism thing is that its not right. Not that its a bad thing, caring for animals isnt wrong, but we're humans. We're supposed to eat plants AND animals. However the way the animals are killed is horrendus! (did i spell that right?) The native americans would use all of the animal, not wasting anything. When they cut down a tree, they planted another. The way things are done now, is wrong. We shouldnt keep animals in cages all theyre lives just to be eaten, and they shouldnt be tortured. Its best to buy things that say free-range, because that means they were allowed to roam and be animals. And you know how they get fur from animals? They stick a plug up their butt and electrocute them! How disgusting! There are so many ways to fufill our basic human needs. I wish things could be done more humanely! ...Also tofu makes me vomit :(
Astral Romance - December 6, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
i watched maybe the first five seconds of that video and i couldn't watch it anymore... I just can't watch such sort of videos. i am not a vegetarian, but i don't like meat very much.
Jinxlynroth - December 6, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)
My diet is so vegan now!
We can't afford fish *the only meat my body is okay with*
and I vomit when I eat eggs and other animal products it's horrible!
*I don't miss it though, my family is so pissed with me, because I cannot eat dinner!*
So I live Off Miso Soup and Red Ban Buns and soy milk and ALOT of Fruit and Veg, I cannot eat bread ethier it all makes me sick for some scary reason
What is wrong I wonder
it must just be my digestive system lol
it's really been troubling me
But I thought a year ago that being a vegan must really suck because you would miss the old foods
but I like my diet :) :) :)

My friends adn ESPECIALLY family find it weird!
My mum yells at me "gain some weight skinny girl, you need meat red beans do not provide as much protein"
I don't like pigging out on nuts :o
it dosen't fill me up but red beans *YESSSSS* and Tofu *YESSSS
I love the taste of soy milk!
people think it dosen't taste nice, but now I love it
my mum says if I lose another kg *WTF
she will do things
I LOVE Miso and green tea!
you can do it if you want to!
you'll start developing a passion for veggies!
I'm not a full time vegan when I go to my grans at christmas I will eat as much as she wants me too *I don't want to eat meat though
Maybe I don't have to she is an ex vegitarian
it isn't that bad look
protein carbs
SOYA MILK Plain (200 ml) 6 grams 1.6g
MILK ( 1 glass ) 6.3 grams 8g
and Tofu and nuts and the veggies I love are fine *since I eat LOTS per day anyways!
So I'm not lacking protein
sure it dosen't have as much protein as chicken, fish or other meats but we ARE SUPPOSED to only eat a certain *palm portion of that stuff a day
so stuffing your face with long grain rice, veggies and soy milk and tofu ect.
IS FINE
* that is what I should of pointed out to my mum

I'd gladly stop eating meat if my body didn't burn fat at the speed of light.
and same goes for dairy products...
I feel sick a lot with the food i eat even though its not junk food...
I think I"m gonna give this a try...
BTW, about the video...
A lot of countries have standards and regulations about how animals raised for consumption are treated.
However this doesn't stop supermarkets etc selling imported meat from countries that don't have such regulations.
If you dont want to be vegetarian, yet don't condone cruelty, know of the countries which subject animals to this type of cruelty, and check labels of where your food comes from.
PETA do like to show people worse possible cases. It is worrying that animals that are raised for consumption are kept in horrifying conditions because if they are being fed in that environment ultimately means they are consuming part of whats around them therefore, in turn you are putting that into your body.
However, when was in the states, I was looking round in a supermarket and picked up a pack of candies, which carried a label for containing carcinogens (cancer-causing agents), and I noticed to promotion of GM products. I thought the states would have stricter policies on their food standard regulations than what they have.
I'm glad I live in Europe. We're seemingly pulling our finger out to better our food standards, and giving people the choice of what they consume because of better labelling etc.

I heard if meat has a good taste, then the animal was treated well and then vice versa. Is it true?
I really hope there are people out there working to find the best ways to peacefully kill livestock. Poor things deserve to die peacefully as much as others. -_-

I know it's true for the well treated vegetables/fruits/milk-products.
Or rather if such things are well treated, they're around 50-100% more expensive and usually tastes worse...
So no gain there.

well you see
I said out of boredom because I thought of the alternatives they could of tried beforehand, And I think they where only testing the animals because they could give us humans more nutritional facts about thier products, which I think is pathetic because everyone knows junk food is bad for you, but now they have changed the ingredient into another thing that dosen't have to be in there "extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves" , I also said "Out Of Boredom" because they did do very cruel things to the animals that were purely unnesserary like forcing these mice to swim in a pool of water mixed with white paint to hide a submerged platform
and
"Mars supported a cruel experiment to learn how a chocolate ingredient called PQQ affects metabolism by cramming baby mice into 200-milliliter Plexiglas metabolic chambers—around half the size of a 12-ounce soda can—and then submerging the chamber for nearly five hours in a chilled water bath, inducing labored breathing in the distressed mice. Experimenters then shoved tubes down the mice’s throats every day for 10 days to force-feed them the PQQ, after which they were killed and cut up for analysis."
I'm sorry I seemed to have made you angry
