Title: What is your first ever JROCK/Viusal Kei band?

BeestBrut - June 8, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
Just thought this would be an interesting topic. My first JROCK band was Nightmare and to be honest, I have never heard of Dir en Grey or Malice Mizer until several months afterward.

sweet_decadence - June 9, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Well the first Jrock you could say I heard was Redemption by Gackt because I'm a final fantasy fan! I like that, so I googled "Japanese Rock" several months later and found this list of bands. I hated everything until I reached Malice Mizer, who in my opinion where the music I'd been waiting to hear. It was so beautiful, it sent shivers down my spine.

Summerise
1st Jrock:Gackt
1st Visual Kei: Malice Mizer Klaha era

ManaVampire - June 9, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
My first jrock band was Duel Jewel. Ironically enough, they were the first jrock band I ever met too! (Although I met them well over a year or so after I completely got into jrock)

Izumi - June 9, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Dir en Grey were my first visual band... yeah i suck.

but from there i discovered the term "Visual Kei" and found Malice Mizer... etc etc

When I looked into Jrock though I think the first "normal" band i listened to was L'arc~en~ciel.... OMG! Hyde!! <33 <33 <33 <33 <33

Maddy-chan - June 9, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
MIYAVI... :*******************

Manic Macabre - June 10, 2008 01:43 AM (GMT)
Hm, first band I ever liked that was visual kei was Psycho le Cemu I suppose. XD

I was into Gackt, Miyavi, L'arc en ciel and misc. stuff back in those days.

Mana came in later. Like almost 2 years ago or so. =D

lips_blood_red - June 10, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
well the first jrock band i ever heard was X-Japan, i listened to 'Endless Rain' because a friend of mine showed it to me, i liked it very much...but at that time i was too much into other things to get into jrock, so i think it doesn't count, then, one day i was researching about goth lolita in the web and Mana appears as the manor gothic lolita ever...i thought he was a girl, but i keep on researching about him immediately and found he was a guy...i thought he might be gay or something (i don't even knew what visual kei was at that time) and thought he was cutelike, i found he used to have a visual kei band called MALICE MIZER and actually had a band called Moi dix Mois...and i thought *so he's musician...i want to know the way he sounds* and i search for Malice Mizer in you tube...Beast of Blood appears and i wathced it, fell in love <33 i loved Klaha very much so he was my first jrocker, then i search for Moi dix Mois in you tube and found a Nocturnal Romance fanvid and watched it...fell in love again <33 so i decided to download more of their music to know them better and research more abour them, after reading some interviews, i fell in love with Mana and my whole life chage a lot since that...then i found some other jrock bands...after Malice Mizer...i met Lareine and Dir en Grey, and get into X-Japan again, and then L'arc en ciel, versailles, etc, etc, etc....

AngelaAshford06 - June 10, 2008 11:16 AM (GMT)
The first band I liked was The Pillows back when I was a wee weeaboo. :P

MiMichan - June 18, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
Well, Redemption by Gackt was my first Jrock song I ever heard cause it was the ending song for the game Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerberus.

I'm not a Gackt fan anymore though

Evangeline - June 18, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
My first Visual Kei band was Dir en Grey. I was addicted to their ''Yokan'' song back then. xD ( and i still like it to be honest xD )

And my first Jrock song was by Gackt. I cant remember which song it was though.

And shortly after that came Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois. ^^

xit - June 18, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
Gackt, after some people at a Danish metal forum recommended him.

MiMichan - June 19, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
Wow. at ton of you first listened to Gackt.

for me, After Gackt came Malice Mizer. I was watching an anime AMV that have Beast of blood for the music. then came alllllllll the other music.

Manic Macabre - June 20, 2008 04:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah, many moons ago, I started off with Gackt, L'arc en ciel, Psycho le Cemu, and anything else my friend downloaded. Then she showed me Malice Mizer and I thought they were so weird. And I thought Mana was kinda freaky. XD

But then 2 years ago I bought a CD and decided to give them a listen. Then it was all downhill from there. XD

moidixmizer - June 20, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
tbh i didnt really listen music at all before about 15-16 months ago, i first listened to a few GazettE songs like tokyo shinjuu, then i saw a trailer for dixanadu on a friend's bebo, then i researched the band and found out the other albums and malice mizer etc etc...

Maaya - April 30, 2009 01:26 AM (GMT)
the veru fist visual band, I think it was Gazette with "anata no tame no kono inochi" I fell in love with Ruki xD
the it was Miyavi and...
well I really don't remember how I got to know about Mana-sama =/ but at first I thought he was a singer! haha

but, I started liking stuff related to Japan, since one friend made me watch Loveless, LOL

now, I'm completely obsseced with those kind things

Pythos - May 30, 2009 03:08 AM (GMT)
Totally unoriginal considering the forum.

Moi dix moi. I only later learned of Malice Mizer, and my first intro to that was Illuminati. At first I found the video disturbing but wonderful at the same time, the music and almost Circus like synthesizer tune helped. Then I found the lyrics of this video. WOW. Once again deceiving appearances. The scenes shown is Sex in a rather ugly manner, and yet the lyrics deal with how love has lost its romantic and spiritual connections. For a hopeless romantic like me that it was mana (pun intended) from heaven. There was also that really nice looking female with a sad face, which I later recalled was that guy named Mana. :)

Oh I also found a video of Hizaki Totally shredding on the guitar like NO ONE, even Randy Rhoads, I have ever seen.

I have to say I am getting a growing interest in Jrock, though nothing has even approached the power and beauty of Mana's works yet.

LadyMinoru - August 5, 2009 03:48 AM (GMT)
When I was in 6th grade, I had to do a report on Japanese culture, so I looked up Jmusic to get extra credit...

First song I ever listened to: Mizerable by Gackt, and I had to choose a subtopic of my report, so I did Jrock because a report on Japan isn't complete without it XD

&& I listened to Malice Mizer like RIGHT when I discovered Gackt. Followed by a flood of other Visual Kei bands :K2:

even if i find reasons to quit him... his music and world enfolds me and i can't get out!

same happens with Közi <33 with the difference there's absolutely nothing about this guy that annoys me or dislike!

another added to my favs is Kenzi, that man's the shit! but i rather stop now or i'll never do it xD

my first Visual Kei band was Malice Mizer :)
i was seven and my baby-sitter was into them. i remember going into her room one day and seeing a poster and thinking "oh my god this is the coolest thing i have ever seen in my whole entire seven years of life". of course, being the seven year old (who already had a poor attention span) i was, i completely forgot about them when i left her house and went home. but i remembered them three years ago when i saw Mana in a GLB and decided to look them up! and then that led on to Velvet Eden!! <33
hooray for really cool baby-sitters!

Well, the first I heard of was hide, because in college there was a boy and we kinda liked each other but he had a girlfriend and he'd tell me all about jrock and mostly complain about other fans.

Well,a couple years later we got back in touch but he'd ditched the girlfriend so I decided to do a bit of research so I could at least ask intelligent questions! LOL, I looked up jrock on youtube and got bunches of fanvids and couldn't make sense of what what what or who was who but the name Malice Mizer stuck out so I searched that and got the PV for Kyomu no Naka de no Yuugi.

I thought...eh, probably some manufactured insta-goth group and those cute people are just puppets especially that "chick" (yes, I thought Mana was a mindless girl puppet propped up for his looks!) but I was still curious because after all, he is totally mind-bogglingly HAWT! So I went to wiki and found out that not only was Mana a guy but that he wrote that music and much more and designed stuff and was considered the genius behind just about everything good that has ever been seen on Earth!

Well, I have a thing for intelligence and so even though he was a boy (ew!) I couldn't help myself and fell for him anyway.

I did take the time to learn about other jrock bands and people, but honestly, compared to Mana, no other jrocker can hold my attention for long. :dix:

edit: if it sounds like I'm contradicting myself because I liked that boy in college, I should mention that he's totally pre-op trans FTM

My first was Malice Mizer-Beast of Blood.
Still my favourite song<3

naomisan - August 19, 2009 01:47 PM (GMT)
Malice Mizer was my first one. I'm thankful for that random person who recommended me that band in omegle

Inepte - August 29, 2009 02:07 PM (GMT)
I got to know about J-rock through a friend of mine, who is a fan of The GazzettE. I listened to some of their music and thought it was pretty cool. But the first band I got really into, was Malice Mizer. I watched a J-rock special on a Norwegian forum (we have a neat little fanbase over here :3), where the Illuminati PV was included. I found the music very interesting, so I looked up the band on YouTube and watched the Saikai No Chi To Bara live performance. The music was simply captivating, and MM became my favorite band soon after.

Me watching the live on YT:
"Wait, is that a female j-rocker? How cool! And look, she's even wearing gothic lolita! ^-^"

I think you guys can figure out what happened next. :P

Astral Romance - August 29, 2009 02:44 PM (GMT)
My first VK band was Malice Mizer, i found Moi dix Mois after them :D

Sybil - October 2, 2009 12:18 AM (GMT)
My first VK band was the gazettE, which I discovered by listening to their song Regret. I liked them very much but it wasn't my favorite band.
Then on a blog, I saw a picture of this "gothic-to-death girl"(yes, I was blind, sorry Mana-sama ;____________________;).
I discovered Visual Kei and I remembered about Mana. I looked for pictures of "her" and I fell in love. ""She" was so beautiful!♥,"I thought.
Then I listened to Au Revoir and Beast of blood and it was ...awesome♥ I transfered those 2 songs into my mp3 and listened to them so much that I almost learned all the lyrics. I needed more songs!
I uploaded many other songs and the Bara No Seidou collection.
It was incredibly good.
Then I discovered about Moi Dix Mois. My first songs were Monophobia and Pessimist(Juka's version, it's the best one♥). Same impression as with Malice Mizer!I felt sorrow and beauty in those songs so I did just like with MM. Download, sorry ;__;
And I definitely FELL in love with our beautiful Mana-sama~<33
It's been one year now ^^
