Title: Merveilles
Description: their magnum opus

Queen Desiderata - October 18, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
Malice Mizer without beloved Kami and Gackt will never be the same.

Daikirai - October 18, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
I actually like the Bara no Seidou-era more than the Merveilles-era.
Of course it won't be the same, but I like the music with Klaha much more *-*.
I wonder what would have happened if Kami didn't die. Would the music have the same "feeling" or sound?

[perhaps I like Bara no Seidou more, because I don't like Gackt XD]

Queen Desiderata - October 18, 2005 12:18 AM (GMT)
Let me tell you something...

I ACTUALLY HEART KLAHA TOO!!! <3 ahahahahaha!

and he's sick now! :(

Daikirai - October 18, 2005 12:20 AM (GMT)
Uh, I thought it was just a rumor that he's sick Ôo. That's noooot good!
I don't inform myself ybout him anymore, because I don't like his solo stuff much.

Queen Desiderata - October 18, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
No comments on his solo stuff. :P

And why yes, he's so sick, he has to put his music career on hiatus. T___T

ManaVampire - October 18, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
haha I never cared for Gackt much either so I love the Klaha era much more..none the less, its been almost a year now since we heard news from Klaha (him going on hiatus) I wonder where he is or what he could be doing now...Personally, I like to think he only faked sick so maybe he can just lead a normal life now. ^^;

Queen Desiderata - October 18, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
if Klaha joins m10m as their new vocalist, WOOOHOO!!!

well, it's just a thought. ;-)

Trust me, you're not the first to think so. There was the rumor for Klaha, Kozi (which is laughable, as he's in EoD), Yu~ki, and everyone else under the sun as the new vocalist..... People for awhile were convinced that Klaha was K.

It would be cool if Klaha did join M10M, but sadly, I really do think he is sick- it doesn't have to physical. Klaha's illness could also be mental. I'm not saying he's going insane or anything, but it's just that the stress of a solo career does things to you.

Or maybe he just needs a loooong break. ^_^

But as for the topic- I like the Bara no Seidou era of MM better, though Gackt's reign does have it's merits. In fact, I prefer MM-Gackt to Solo-Gackt, and wish that he would go back to darker things. (He did it sort-of with Nine Spiral, Lust For Blood, etc...even if it was still a bit poppish.)

And when I saw the cover of DIABOLOS, I got my hopes up- first the new Malice-era haircut, and then that....but I was sadly decieved. :(

Oh well, I can still hope. :)

Wow ... and I thought that just I had this freaky idea xD~. Klaha wiht a "dix" on his forehead *hrhr* ....

Back to Merveilles:
There's one song I really can't stand >_<. It's S-conscious. I even think Brise is better (I'm no fan of pop-ish songs ...). S-conscious seems so ... pseudo-industrial Ôo. Anybody here who thinks the same?

Haha!! You're so funny! :D

Not a fan of Gackt are you? :P And yes, the thought of Klaha going hardcore is quite appalling, really. Especially to what Daikirai said, Klaha with a "dix" on the forehead... HAHAHAHA!!! No matter, I'd LOVE to see him back in action. :]

I think we should start a Klaha thread. lol.

Count_Dracula - October 19, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
I certainely prefer Malice Mizer in the Klaha era,I dont know why exactly but the music seemed a lot darker and much more serious so I think that's what I like about it really

Also,I seriously can't imagine Gackt as a vocalist for the Bara no seidou album  !

Queen Desiderata - October 20, 2005 02:48 PM (GMT)
Why is gothnic darkness better??

I like Merveilles more because of Kami (RIP) and the whimsicality of the music. I wouldn't akin that to uh.. not being serious. O_o But of course, that's just in my opinion. :P

I'm not too good at waxing lyrical with my words but I found a Merveilles review which best describes how I feel towards the album:

Malicious Misery (Monday, October 22, 2001)

One thing that I love most about Malice Mizer, and especially the albums Voyage and Merveilles, is their extensive use of classical music elements in their music that fuses with their personal style to create a very unique blend of creativity. Counterpoints are used in song such as 'gekka no yasoukyoku' and also split melodies such as in that of 'madrigal'. They employ a wide range of different instruments for a variety of effects in their songs. The late drummer Kami's exceptional skill is reflected in his delicate control of speed and volume. This album can be metaphorically described as a beautiful mystic castle, with each song as a different room. In each room is a scene that links to the overall theme. It is a MUST for music lovers anywhere.

Daikirai - October 20, 2005 09:05 PM (GMT)
I prefer "gothic darkness". Everyone has it's own taste of music ^^v.
I love Kami, too ... but he didn't do that much while Merveilles (composing, lyrics,...) - that's what I think!

The review fit's perfect for Merveilles O.O I love this one! Bara no Seidou feels like a beautiful mystic castle, too. A beautiful mystic castle of darkness with old rooms none ever entered for years (uh, I suck with "metaphors" in english -__-").

Mourning Masamune - April 28, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
I'm a fan of all Malice Mizer's "eras".

I'm rather dismayed when people say Tetsu can't sing. He had an unusual vocal style that could hit both very high and very low notes respectively.

Gackt's romantic French pop style was also rather enjoyable, not to say that every song was like that. Merveilles and indeed Voyage was very much like a "mystical castle". ^_^

Klaha's powerful operatic vocal style was very impressive and went very well with the classical and goth elements of Bara no Seidou.

As for Gackt's solo career, I agree with what has been previously said. I too prefer his work during his time in Malice Mizer and have been rather disappointed with his latest offerings. It would be nice if he could return to his visual kei roots but unfortunately it does not seem like he is going to do so. -_- Which is a great shame.

Manic Macabre - September 16, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
I really do prefer Gackt back in his Malice Mizer days. And from what I hear Bara No Seidou is quite good. Could anyone please give me a fairly accurate description on what it sounds like? It sounds like something I might like.

xit - October 18, 2006 11:33 AM (GMT)
Usually I prefer merveilles over Bara No Seidou.
But it depends on my mood, if I'm in a really gothic mood then Bara No Seidou is way better, but for everyday listening merveilles wins hands down.

How to describe Bara No Seidou?
To begin with picture Nocturnal Opera, especially Mephisto Waltz.
Classical operatic music mixed with a sort of MdM-light sound (this is Malice Mizer not MdM).
No pop music. At all.
The guitars are still there, but they’re barely noticeable.
Way less heavy (this isn’t MdM after all :P), but still heavier than what Malice Mizer did before.
A lot more grandeurs.
Operatic singing (both from the female chorus, and Klaha).
Lots of harpsichord (or piano).
Violins and organs.
Gothic. More gothic. Some more gothic. With a dash of a little gothic. :D

Generally I get this feeling of death, romanticism, love, rebirth, loss, large desolate castles, moonlight, longing, grandeur, and gloom when listening to it.

Some poems that might, just might, come close to what I feel Bara No Seidou feels like.
But seriously you need to listen to it to understand it properly.

---

The pawns are gone
The moon is out
Sadness is abound
But still we keep on dancing whilst the walls fall around us

The music has died
The roses are black
Sensuality flows
But still we keep on dancing whilst the walls fall around us

The fire is spreading
The love is strong
Death blooms
But still we keep on dancing whilst the walls fall around us

---

In the desolate ruins she dwell
Fresh flowers in her hand
Never fading
The moon lights her white gown
As she sits waiting
The raven black hair
Slowly moves in the night breeze
Her lips freshly red as blood
Outlining her gentle smile
Waiting for her love

---

Starlit night
Full moon
Soft music

Playing her harp
Strings slowly going loose
Her dress the colour of dark cold marble

Hair flowing through the air
Lovers hands caressing it
As they fade away with the music

Ghost of love floats beside her
Loving her unconditionally
Reminding her

Tombstones crumbling beneath her
The earth shudders
Starts opening

As the final string is played
She falls
And rises

Free of the world
Above the skies
Away to the stars

hmmmm.....gothic gothic and more gothic you say? sounds awesome! If its anything like Nocturnal Opera I'm sure I'll love it! Beast of Blood was a beautiful song if you ask me. One of my friends said the video was a little twisted but I thought it was cool. Malice Mizer's music seems to suit me very well. I've always been a fan of orcestrated music and rock music as well, so I'm sure I'll find it "beautifully dark" which is what I call MM and MdMs music. To me the music is like poetry.

Kinsao - October 19, 2006 02:23 PM (GMT)
Absolutely! :) I can't say as I have a favourite out of Malice Mizer's albums because it depends what mood I'm in. If I was on a desert island and only allowed to take one, I'm pretty sure it'd be Merveilles. But I love the stronger classical influence in Bara no Seidou, and the grand epic atmosphere. :)

kiaiku - October 19, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
It was the most original and the concept of Merveilles is truly a masterpiece, not just musically, Malice Mizer were much more than just musicians and with Gackt they accomplished very special things. One thing that I found quite interesting is that many people from varius non-japanese forums at least...blame Gackt for their "pop" songs, well...Ma chérie, Shi no butou and Zencho were composed in Tetsu Era...and the leader was Mana not Gackt, it was Mana's and the others members vision. As for the term "pop" I really disagree, in my opinion Merveilles is the most dark/gothic album that they released, and why is that? because they did gothic music in a not gothic way, and that is the most fascinating thing in Malice Mizer...they were unique.

Elegant-Lolita - December 15, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
MERVEILLES!!! GENIUS!!! ALL THE WAY!!! I LOVE IT!!!

No really. :D ALL of the songs on the album are absolutely wonderful in their own way.

Its almost as if you couldn't put words to describe how exactly they make you feel, like you couldn't describe them. THATS the kind of music I love.

The music that evokes different things from inside you. The passion, the beauty, the sorrow.

Ahh, I LOVE it!

Manic Macabre - December 15, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
Merveilles is indeed beautiful. I feel my fav songs from Merveilles are Syunikiss (gotta love the violin in there), S-CONSCIOUS and Brise (its so cheerful I love it!). Although I've mostly been interested in stuff from the Klaha and Pre-Klaha eras, Merveilles is still magnificent.
