Title: Inside Moitie!?
iSynth - February 19, 2008 01:10 AM (GMT)
Let me phrase this carefully so it doesn't sound like I'm trying to spread a rumor...
I've read customer experiences inside the MMM store and was surprised to find a largely negative reaction to the customer service. Now, I've never so much as stepped foot in Japan nor do I own a stitch of MMM, but I know some on this forum are more *worldly* than myself and I was wondering:
Are the sales people bitchy, or what?!
Also, any notes on product quality, the store itself, etc would be appreciated!!

I can't say from personal experiance but I've heard it's quite mixed how they act. Some people get really bitchy fruitloops others get very pleasant sales assistants. Same in ordinary shops really.
Product quality? Moitie is very well made, it feels expensive on. You really do get what you paid for!

Actually, I've heard mostly good things about the Moitie employees.
The only common complaint is that it's a small store, and they sometimes have too many employees working at once and they kinda follow you around.
But I haven't been there myself so... (and that usually happens in small stores)
There's also other factors that play in, like whether or not you look like a potential customer, or just some curious tourist. They'd probably be a bit more hospitable to a lolita than a middle-aged white guy wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
Slightly off topic but...
The Angelic Pretty people are almost too sweet. They came right up to me and started going "kawaii kawaii" and touching my hair and stuff.
That's pretty typical for lolita stores, because they want you to buy stuff, and you probably want to look cute even if you don't, (and trust me I've seen some pretty bizarre looking lolita).
It's a bit annoying, since I am certainly not "kawaii kawaii" xDD
But I love their merchandise so...*pulls out wallet*

I've been to both the Hiroshima and Tokyo Moi-meme-Moitie shops!!
I've had great experiences at both stores too!
The Hiroshima shop was personally my favorite. Its well spaced out, and at the time I went there was only one employee working there (I nicknamed her Giggles because she didn't know any English but she thought my mom and I were funny so she kept giggling around us XD). The employee was EXTREMELY sweet, and she tried helping us the best she could even though she didn't speak a word of Japanese. I bought about $3,000 USD at the Hiroshima store and since they had to put everything in so many bags she offered to hold everything at Moitie for me while I shop around the rest of the mall then I could come back when I'm ready to leave. They also gave me a free gift (a miniature cloth purse) and let me take a picture in front of the store in place of one of the manikins which is generally a huge no-no.
I had a great experience at the Tokyo Moitie as well, but not particularly as much fun.(^^)v I went to the Tokyo shop twice. The first night there were two employees working there (a man and a woman). The woman spoke English very well so she would follow me around (kinda awkward but from my experience, almost all the employees in any lolita shop followed me around. I also had some Japanese friends around me and they kept following me around strangely like the Moitie employees. Its just part of their culture I guess.). It was helpful that the employee spoke english though. She waited on me hand and foot and the moment I asked about ANYTHING she was there to help me out. She let me try on any of the shoes at the store, gave me a huge variety of rings to try on, and so on.
The one thing I suggest about going there though is TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES IF YOU GO IN THE COFFIN DRESSING ROOM!!!! They will stare at you like you're insane if you don't. XD
Also, at the Tokyo Moitie, the employees gave me a form to fill out and a card which meant I got frequent shopper points they're not supposed to give to foreigners! If you fill up 10 (dix) space you get 10% off your purchase and if you fill up 20 you get 20% off. Its very nice to have especially if you spend a lot of money there like I do. XD
I guess my personal experience with Moitie may have been excellent because the only clothing I actually wear IS Moi-meme-Moitie (or Midi: Nette), so it may have been an indication to them when they saw me in full wardrobes of their clothes that I'm very big into their style and they want to cater to those kinds of customers.
A friend of mine went to Japan a few months after me and wore mixed lolita outfits (I think she had an OP on from Metamorphose and socks from Moitie) and they didn't treat her nearly as nice as me. They pretty much left her alone the entire time (compared to how they kept wanting to help me out and stay around me) and refused to let her take pictures in front of the store or anything. From what I got out of it, her experience in Moitie was a pretty much go in, find what she wanted to buy, and leave. I don't think she has nearly as fun of an experience as I did there...):
In my own opinion, I think a lot of lolita shops in Japan are VERY biased to foreigners and your experience will vary depending on what you're wearing and how you present yourself there. The lolita shops take a lot of pride in their brands, so if you're going in wearing their brand and seem dedicated to it, they will treat you like royalty, but if you're going in in mixed brands they're probably just going to be a little bit more quiet, and then for people who aren't wearing anything remotely to the lolita style I've heard some pretty bad things about how they're treated, but I've also heard good things. It just really depends.
I can say compared to moitie, the sweet lolita shops didn't treat me very nicely. They kept staring at me like I was going to steal something from their stores and would follow me closely and kinda act like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" whenever I would touch an article of clothing. Metamorphose was the biggest concern with that for me. It felt very tense being in that shop with the employees. Baby was alright. They just kinda kept to themselves, which was nice, but the overall atmosphere I got from shops that weren't Gothic (like H.Naoto) or Moitie just kinda treated me like "When are you going to leave?"
Also, Moitie is made up of mostly polyester. Some people have a hard time with that concept, but I think the quality of it is AMAZING. I have never had any problems with my Moitie clothes and they're more giving than people think they are as far as stretch goes to fit your body type.
Izumi - February 20, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
I've never been the the Moitie stores but i own some Moitie products.
I think generally the quality is excellent.
I own an EGA dress thats worth alot more than the EGL dresses and the quality is amazing. Its very heavy, and made of different fabrics and its well layered to give you shape. I love my EGA dress.

*heavy sigh* It's a shame you get judged on no matter WHAT you look like. But let's face it... I don't think ANYONE in Moitie wants to see ME in tights and a cute skirt. :smirk:
Maybe if I bring curry peace offerings?

hehe, I'm sure its not a completely awful experience going to Moitie and not wearing their brand name. Its just you have to keep in mind that majority of Japan can be very judgmental, especially to foreigners. I strongly believe that your trip will be as good as you make it, which includes experiencing gothic lolita shops such as Moitie. If you do your research on places you want to visit and act modest/polite as they do, I think you will find an over all better reaction from everyone in Japan. There are still some jerks out there, but thats just like anywhere else in the world.(^^)v
Its just a little more difficult finding your way into the lolita subcultures at first even with the shops because a lot of foreigners in the past have gone in and obnoxiously acted like "OH WOW THIS IS SO STRANGE!! WHAT IS THIS?" and that annoys the Japanese. I think they kinda think that if you're going to go into their shops you need to act presentable like a lolita/aristocrat AT LEAST, because thats just a piece of the culture of it. Not being some dumb foreign tourist acting inappropriately on their standards. XD
I'm sure if you went you would be just fine and have a wonderful time! You seem willing to learn about the cultures and styles and thats generally something they seem to appreciate.(^^)

Oh lord, I expect a lot of cold shoulders then. :(
iSynth - February 22, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
Lordie, I'd stick out like a sore thumb! I'd try to be respectful, I really would, but I'd be popping out my camera every three seconds... "Oh look, this shirt has a tag on it!" "Oh look at the hanger!" "Well would you look at this necklace?" "Oh isn't that the most divine skirt!!"

lol. In all sincerity, though, I would love the opportunity to see the store and be in the presence of so much Mana-related things at once. :D

xD
but, from what I-'ve just read, I guess I wouldn't be treated well :(

And that was a great example of pointless grave digging. :P
I.e. posting in a almost year dead thread, and not bringing anything new to the discussion.
So I'm closing the thread.
