Title: Mana Make Up
ManaVampire - December 6, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
For the past years I've been applying my Mana make up the same way...Yesterday I decided to try something a bit different.
Since most of my cosplays are Malice Mizer Mana, I'm kinda starting to get to the point where I want to move more towards Moi dix Mois, and with that I'd like to try Mana's make up techniques that he uses now days (they're different than they once were).
I'm sorry these pictures aren't the best (I took them with a webcam out of sheer laziness), but this was my trial run with a new "airbrushed" type look.
If anyone else feels like posting pictures of their make up test runs, you're more than welcome to.

The last one is just out of sheer stupidity/random

LOLWHO WANTS A COOKIE?! XB
Manic Macabre - December 6, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
ooh! ohh! cookie! I want a cookie! :P good job with the makeup! nicely done.

How did you get your hair like that?
*has tried MdM hair before*
*and FAILED*
ManaVampire - December 7, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
It WAS a really long wig, until I cut it to pieces and poofed it up with a ton of extremely strong hairspray...its still in its stages of being worked on because it takes several coats of hairspray until it really starts to show through, but thats basicalliy all I do.
Manic Macabre - December 7, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
really? wow. sounds like quite an irksome process. but that actually helps regarding my upcoming cosplay. I need to know how to style a wig, and now I have some sort of idea how. :) what hairspray did u use?
ManaVampire - December 7, 2006 09:06 PM (GMT)
I use Got 2b Glued Freeze Spray. Its supposedly a kind of hair spray punk rockers use to keep mohawks up.

You could always use it as a last resort.

And never say I never do anything for you. :P
Elegant-Lolita - December 9, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
The makeup looks real god so far. (^^) I've seen a lot of Malice Mizer cosplays for Mana, a lot. But not as many of his Moi Dix Mois look. So its a good choice that you went in a different direction.
Also, Im just wondering if anyone else knows (because I dont know if its pretty obviously, lol (^^);;) but, for when it says "Dix" on his forehead and its all done up & it looks really cool it IS done with liquid eyeliner right?
Cause in pictures Ive seen of Mana up closer, it looks really smooth and clean, so I've heard people say its regular eyeliner or some kind of paint, but I have thought it to be liquid eyeliner....
Maybe Im wrong (0_o;;) I'm not sure, lol. But that would be my guess.
Anyone maybe know? lol (^^)
Manic Macabre - December 9, 2006 09:09 PM (GMT)
I think the liquid eyeliner theory may be correct. when my friend wants to look like K (she has a crush on him) she uses liquid eye liner to make the lines down here eyes. I might just use that for my cosplay too.........
Elegant-Lolita - December 9, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah, liquid eyeliner really is handy. Its awesome.
I used it once, because my friend went through her cat eyes phase, & so she always did cat tails at the ends of her eyes.
Well one night, it was me, her, and our good friend Will. Well, Will doesn't wear makeup. So while I was testing out my new techniques my friend brough him in and started testing everything out on him. Like how K's makeup is basically. After the makeup was done, I seriously thought he resembled K, in the makeup sense. So I'm like, "Thats it, Im doing your hair! We have to finish this!" lol, The whole time my friends beside me, Im standing infront of him like,
"Gel!"
"Hairspray!"
"Mouse!"
With her handing it to me dramatically.
lol, it WAS a dramatic change. & the funny thing was, my friend didn't even know who K was, and she managed to do make the makeup. We took picures of him after, and we still threaten to use them against him to this very day. Good times, good times, lol.
ManaVampire - December 10, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
lol thats awesome. I've never seen a K cosplayer before..or anyone really look like him. I think it would be so awesome to see someone look like K or cosplay as him.
I don't really know what Mana uses for the "dix" on his forehead, but I would suspect liquid eyeliner as well. I use some really expensive liquid eyeliner my mom bought me, and it works wonders. I'm sure Mana does something similar to that, but thats just my guess.(^^)v
Manic Macabre - December 10, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
I'm sure he uses liquid eyeliner to do the extremely complex makeup on his face every time. ever notice how Mana's makeup seems to get more and more complex? first it was a simple "dix" then it just got more and more complicated. and then he added those awesome-looking black vein-like designs on the side of his face. does anyone here have any clue how to replicate that?
ManaVampire - December 10, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Just A LOT of practice and studying photos.

true. true. plus I'm sure after a while I could replicate the designs on his face. but when applying the makeup I'd have to be extra careful. :D
ManaVampire - December 11, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
You do. My hands get really shakey when it do it sometimes, and that creates a lot of mess ups. T_T;
Manic Macabre - December 11, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
I might do ok, since me being an artist I've come acustomed to doing delicate painting jobs as well as delicate designs with thin pencils and markers. but I could see how it could be hard to do.
ManaVampire - December 14, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
I found out what kind of eyeliner Mana uses for the dix on his forehead and on his eyes...its Shiseido 28°C Liquid Eyeliner...but...he can't seem to find it in stores anywhere all of a sudden. ):
If you guys have any idea (like a website where he could buy it from) please post it! Currently I' m looking around online through variouse websites for it, hoping to find it and maybe send him some.(^^)
Elegant-Lolita - December 14, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
Ooooh, now that there is a name brand I shall check! (^^)

All I can say is that Im definetly getting them both, lol. Theres a lot of good stuff in the catalogue this time. :]

I just ADORE Avon, but I wish they had a gothier range, t'would be much more convenient.
Both for cosplay and other.

Yeah, I do wish they had more darker eyeshadows and like you said a more gothier range. But its Avon, lol. :D
Got to love it. ;)
For cosplays, lol ooooh maaaan. Looking through the catalogue I basically picked out all the cosplay-like materials that I wanted, lol. Theres quite abit of make up for any cosplay.
It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. lol
ManaVampire - December 15, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
My mom was just telling me she got a new avon catalogue at work not too long ago, and she was going to give it to me to see if there would be anything Mana would like (hes in a crisis with his make up right now since apparently they discontinued his eyeliner).
I'll have to look through Avon if its really that good.(^^) Do you know if they have anything in jet black?
Elegant-Lolita - December 15, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
For the liquid eye liner I seen in the catalogue, the colours are brown, black, navy, and plum. It doesn't say if theres a jet black. But I assume the black is as good as any jet black, lol. I wouldn't be sure. Im going to buy it, but when I try it I'll tell you if its good and dark enough if you like.
Its really quite cool. It looks just like a marker/pen.
However, the thing I want to deal with most is the mascara. I'd like my eye lashes to be as thick and long like Mana's, even tho my eye lashes SUCK! lol I know in his Malice Mizer days he also wore fake eye lashes, and I would too. But I want to get that special mascara that'll do the trick. Sooo, hopefully the Avon brand will do a good job as well. (^^)
CandleLight ChaoS - August 18, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
