Bioshock hits the Xbox 360 and PC August 21st, and I expect you all to buy it.

Kaji - August 16, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
This game, makes me want to go buy a 360 Elite. :/

Coozie - August 16, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
I am really looking forward to this game. Looks friggin awsome o__o

Rock Lee The Hero - August 16, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
I really want this game, REALLY. But my parents will probably take one look at it and go 'It will warp your mind forever and turn you into a killer!'

... I hate when they do that. So I might buy it when I convince them enough and when I get enough time. :P

beat89 - August 17, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)

Final message: BUY THIS GAME!

beat89 - August 22, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
Okay, all of you who don't own this game right now: you suck. Majorly.

I aquired a 360 just to play this game, and it was TOTALLY worth it. The graphics are amazing even on an SDTV, but on an HDTV with surround sound, it'll knock your socks off. it's truly beautiful.

And the sound is incredible. Rarely do you notice this when playing games, but Bioshock is just exceptional; there's one moment shortly after you set foot in Rapture, where you encounter a woman standing over a baby carraige, and I won't spoil it for you, but it's amazing. Astounding. The voice work is just incredible. It really gives you a feel for the atmosphere of the game.

Umm... other things....

BUY THIS GAME

Watching a Big Daddy tear into someone is a real treat. It's brutal, but the first time you see a guy get smashed into a wall, stunned as the Big daddy advances on him, then gets a drill stuck through his chest, spattering blood all over the window you're watching through, right before his body is flung through that very window, it's awe-inspiring. *Is ####ing scared of taking those guys on*

It's got some great political allegory too. Banners spouting Randyian quotes are draped all over the place: "Altruism is mankind's greatest sin" hangs in a lobby. "Above all, thou shall do no harm" is scrawled in blood on the floor of a deranged surgeons lab, and 50's tunes warble from every room, enhancing the atmosphere and mood.

BUY THIS GAME

The gameplay is pretty standard shooter fair so far, but I haven't penetrated that fa into it yet. However, little is as satisfying as baiting some Splicers into a pool of water, then using psychic powers too electrify the water and shock them to death, as you hear the acheivement unlocked sound, and a message pops up along the bottom that says: "Toaster in the Tub".

From the moment you pass over that undersea ridge and see the sprawling underwater metropolis of Rapture, you'll be hooked. I beg you to give this game a go, it's one of the best to come along in a long time.

Hermit of Hell - August 22, 2007 04:09 AM (GMT)

Jin=awesome
Are=Less awesome

I've penetrated about 10 hours in now, and am now taking down Big Daddies with ease.

Still awesome. Still looks great. Still sounds great. All that jazz.

Buy.

Kaji - August 24, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
*kills are*

I want this game so bad, I have a friend with a 360 and no games, so I'm sure he'll let me borrow it. Now, gotta come up with 65 bucks. :(

beat89 - August 24, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Or seven. If you don't own a 360, what's the point in buying it if you have nothing to play it on?

Jinchuuriki - August 24, 2007 06:41 AM (GMT)
When your friends ask if you have it you can say "YES I HAVE IT SO HA IN YOUR FACE!"

beat89 - August 25, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
Just finished it, and it was ####ing AWESOME!

Except for the ending, which is kinda lame (Especially since I got the evil ending after only harvesting like, 3 sisters -_-).

Anyway, still a definite BUY! I'll type up a full review and post it later perhaps. Still absorbing it right now.

Rock Lee The Hero - August 25, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
I got some bad news... My brother started talking about the trailer, where the guy gets his hand drilled in half(practically) by the big daddy. Then my parents took a look at the rating... It's obvious what over-protective parents would think of it.

So, in a summary: There is no way I'm ever getting that game until my 18th birthday.... :( T-T

beat89 - August 25, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
Smack your brother for me.

But yeah, it is a pretty violent game, and quite the scary game, but as long as you can tell the difference between fantasy and reality, it really poses no problem. Goddamn creepy though, especially the Little Sisters.

But yeah, probably not a game you want to play in front of your parents :P There are a couple spots where people have been hung, people are pinned to the wall by stakes, or run through by Big daddy's. Corpses litter the streets, there's a lot of profanity, blood is all over the place, and you can grab bodies with telekinesis and fling them into live people, killing them :D

But really what pulls Bioshock together is the story of Rapture, it's rise and fall. The stories of it's residents, told through audio-diarys, and the stories of it's leaders and it's struggles. It's a brilliantly crafted set-piece, one that actually stimulates your emotions. Really, after taking down a Big Daddy, you feel horrible, as it's Little Sister stands over the corpse asking "Why aren't you moving Mr. Bubbles?" and crying. All they're really trying to do is protect their little girls, until you come along.

The gameplay's pretty fun, but it doesn't stand out overmuch. It's mostly the other elements of Bioshock that make it what it is, although you can't deny the allure of lighting someone on fire with your mind, watching them run to a body of water to put themselves out, shocking them to death with electricity, then grabbing their corpse with telekinesis and flinging i at your next foe. And that's a mundane encounter in Bioshock.

The graphics are breath-taking, some of the best seen to date on the console. hell, probably on any console. Great technical power combined with an incredible art style leads to a perfect looking game, especially the water. Being an underwater city, Rapture is full of water. Flooding tunnels, trickling waterfalls, and leaks in the ceiling all look fantastic. Look out a window in rapture and you'll see the rest f the city, all inter-linked by a series of tunnels and Bathyspheres. It's gorgeous and intimidating, conv3eying a great sense of a crumbling metropolis.

Sound is BRILLIANT, with great voice work, sound effects, and music. Audio-diays are all recored by different people, and no two ever sound the same. Music ramps up as you walk into a dark room, r it spikes as a Splicer jumps you from behind. Honestly, one of the creepiset sounds in the game is the sounds of a Splicer, skulking around Raptue's undercity, singing, "Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so." It's incredibly creepy, and the voice work is briliant, lending a sense of patheticness to the man. Then he jumps at you from above and you fill his corpse full of machine gun shells, but you can't help but feel a twinge of regret for the man and what he has become.

Coozie - August 25, 2007 06:52 AM (GMT)
I can't get it fot the same reasons as RLTH. I am not going to even ask my mom T__T

Jinchuuriki - August 25, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
