Title: Samus

beat89 - August 11, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Here's my latest render. Samus Aran, from the Metroid series. I took a video of me rendering it, cause SMOS requested that a while back, so I'll post that up soon for those interested. In the meantime, here's the render:

You still want that video showing how I render? (You asked for it a while back) Cause if you don't, I won't bother.

Yeah, I still would love that tutorial. It's a great render, I'm just not a fan of Samus. But, I didn't read the thing, and I wasn't asking you to do another. So, yeah. Link pl0x?

Heres the original, which I forgot to post.

Anyway, here's the video. But first, some necessary commentary. Due to my unfamiliarity with the program, you can't see the layers window or my tools box on the vid, so occasionally I'm doing things off-screen there, mostly post-op effects. So yeah, you'll just have to suck it up there.

Also: before you bitch about the music: it's a medley of Metroid Prime 2 music, and it's just slapped on there so the video isn't entirely silent. So yeah, mute it if you don't like it.

Also: I had to speed the video up to 350% speed to fit it on the site, so it's super fast. And google messed with the quality, so it's pretty bad looking Nothing I can do about that though.

And finally, the basic rendering tool I'm using here is the pen tool. It works quite well on curved edges. Heres how I render:

1. Zoom in very far

2. Use your pen tool to click on the outline of your image

3. Click on another point on your render (It doesn't matter if it follows the outline right now)

4. Make sure the box up top that says "Auto add/delete" is checked.

5. Click in the center of your line (This adds a point)

6. Hold the control key, and drag the center point until your line matches the curve of the render. Add points and curves as needed.

That's the basic gist of my technique. Watching the video'll show you how I do it better probably :P

(Put it down to original size or double size for best viewing)
