The show is called Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (translated as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) or Haruhi for short. It's a great show, so if you like randomness, then check this out! Here's the first episode:

Now, if you're a true death Note fan, then you should try Code GEASS: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Lelouch (the main character) is almost like a futuristic Light with similar personality and ideals (sort of). It's a mecha, but that doesn't stop it from feeling eerily similar to Death Note (despite both anime being made by different companies).
